I figured you hadn't seen the pics yet. But, yes, the gear came through it fine!! I like them so much, I may even put them in another plane! One of the guys has the H9 P-47 (150) with the same gear. On his last landing yesterday, one axle broke on touchdown (obviously not a light one!). The strut dragged on the asphalt until the plane stopped. It didn't nose over, but did drag the cowl on its chin. No damage to the strut, mechanism, or wing. New axle and he's back in business. That, to me, says SOLID !!

Thanks,
Nick

how do you guys connect the wing servo wiring when bolting wing to fuse? yesterday I found I damaged one of the retract servo wires because it got crimped against that rib on the fuse where mates with the wing.....
I try to at least make sure the servo plugs are not on the way but looks like even the wires themselves are at risk......any tips?

ok here is proof these retracts are junk....notice poor weld, this is clearly a manufacturing flaw, none of my landings have caused that

A picture is worth a thousand words. Exact place all of my gear have broken at. Still no reply from Horizon on mine, and it's been over a week. Hmmm...

Oh well, as many have said, it is ARF gear. I just wish they would have given an option of fixed gear, such as the B-25 did, instead of these woefully inadequate retracts . Hopefully Robart comes through yet this summer so I can fly mine more this year. It is finished on the stock legs.

I was putting the landing gear strut (of my P-47) into the retract when the weld joint snapped....H9 replaced it after sending me the wrong ones the first time....I'm a little worried with what I have been reading...I have both the P-51 and p-47.

The problem is that...an inexperienced TIG weld weldor (human being most likely in China) is welding these together.
This joint is not a very easy or correct joint to weld. An unknown carbon content coupled with this joint configuration makes it difficult to know what the problem is. I am surely going to check mine out thoroughly and possible redesign or re-TIG weld mine at my shop.
Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone else have problems of the tube weld (at the end of the tube) breaking where there is only a tiny weld on the edge?

Give Lenny a shot. These are the P-47 struts but he makes them for the P-51 as well. http://www.shindinmachine.com/Miscstuff.html

Did you guys use the supplied EZ Connectors for where the push rods connect to the servo arm? If not what are you using?

Yes no worries there ,But use a JR heli ball link to replace the Plastic link supplied , they are rather soft and will stretch with use .

This is a long thread and I'm reading through it as fast as possible... Has anyone used the Saito FA 200 ti that you know of?
Thanks
(BTW...I went through a couple sets of stock retracts on my H9 P-47 and then I discovered Shindin's beefier struts. I will tell you though that a guy at my field has 97 flights on his H9 P-47 with no gear problems...but he does kiss the ground everytime.)

Bob sure can fly 'em can't he? I hope to get 97 flights total on my H9 Jug, much less 97 on the original struts! Here is Bob's Jug waiting for it's next mission.

Well...I didn't name names ...but you guessed it!
I'm putting the H9 P-51 150 together and my only concern are the struts. I love the servo operated gear but I'm seem to break the weld on the siccors alot. Bob says it's all in how I land the beast...

I think I posted this on a Saito thread, not this one, as I wanted to use this twin cyl on the H9 P51 instead of the FG36 I have now......it was both good and bad input I got...some said is hard to tune properly, you need onboard glow, etc so more troble than it was worth so just went with the Saito FG36
