Made some real nice hovers with mine just now. The Li-po battery really extends flight time and helps gain necessary experience.

One thing I noticed and wanted to know if anyone else found the same thing is it seems the Heli will hover in one spot and suddenly get caught in its own down draft. You can actully HEAR the difference and then it starts to sink. If you're quick enough, you can add just a touch of power/collective and get it to stay level or climb. But, if you're slow on the stick, it decends till it bounces off the training skids. Seems like running the snot out of the cyclic is the key. Keep that thing stationary, then add power (when you hear it get caught in the draft) and tail rotor to keep it from descending or changing orientation.

Anyone else "hear the change"?

yeah ive had that. i would have to say that is the ground effect. when it stays in one position for awhile, the air coming back up from the ground disrupts the lifting effect of the rotors. but yes, i definatly "hear" it. your not alone.

And could we possibly get a moderator to make this an "Official Helimax Axe Cp Thread"???? that would be great.

Crashed mine just now.... I was only about 3 feet up when I hit the idle-up, thinking I'd be able to adjust the collective in time--NOPE!! It dropped like a rock, tipped onto its side, and slapped the ground about 40 times with the blades before it was all said and done. Just need to order blades and blade grips, though, which was suprising for how bad it looked. The tail-boom was bent slightly, but I was able to straighten it fairly well by hand.

My $28 lesson for today: I can't fly heli's as well as I can fly planes while trying to carry on a conversation...

While I did not "hear the change," I did observe this down draft behavior when it quickly sinks without its throttle being quickly increased..I was too slow following my typical response to X rotation heli.

I second the motion to make this the "official" HeliMax Axe CP thread. Now, I just need to buy one, rather than rely on flying my friend's.

Have you tried the new battery yet? I got an axe cp for Christmas and am a little disappointed. I have always flown gas powered helis so I really am new to electric helicopters. The flight time is very short. The collective pitch has some slop in it which makes it a little jumpy. The canopy is difficult to take on take off just to plug the batt in. Mine actually fell off in fast forward flight. Anyway please repost on the battery situation, would love to get 20 min of flight time.

Funny you should say that. I was getting more work done on my backpiece yesterday and was daydreaming about flying my AXE while the needle was goin' to town. LOL

I also notice my heli bouncing during hover at two feet. At three feet bounce not too bad. I do have to work the throttle to keep level hover. I am also going to purchase a few LiPo's for longer flight time. For all you that have Lipo's, post what size/brand/flight time so we can share info. I had to adjust tracking on my blades and decided to check balance of blades. Blades were close but I went ahead and worked on them. I used a very simple way to check CG and had to add some tape to root of light blade to get spanwise CG same. Then I weighed each blade and they were within .034 grams so I called it good. Heli flys better now. I could notice an improvement right away. Only drawback of this heli is now I want a bigger one.

I use TP 1320's. I keep the flights to 10-12 minutes, and still end up with a little capacity left (about 300mAh). If I were to push the battery until the voltage sags, I could probably get 15 minutes.

Blades for the E-flight Blade CP Pro would work, but are about 2cm shorter per blade. These blades are about $18. There are also CF blades from Heli Max for the Axe CP. These are about $58 at Tower.

sorry to hear about your tail motor, but glad to hear that it sounds like they are going to take care of your problem.
