tgwolfwood1981 -> HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/17/2006 7:46:39 AM)

Well i bit the bullet and picked up a Helimax Axe CP today!!!!! haven't had the chance to really fly her yet. (this is my first heli.......I know what everyone is thinking.....lol) tomorrow I will be meeting some heli guys at the field. Let them give me a helping hand. All i did today was watch the DVD, charge the battery and make sure all the controls worked, and tracked the blades. (they were only a hair off from the factory.) As far as construction, I am pretty pleased. I am very happy with how strong the frame feels. Especially for this level of copter. I will tell you what though, the first time i nudged the throttle up and saw/heard the blades cutting through the air I realized that the heli hobby was now my new addiction. I realize that I will most like be replacing quite a few parts, but eh, thats how it goes...lol So wish me luck guys (I know i will need it) Glad to be apart of what i have wanted to do for the last 12 years.....Fly Heli's.

I will post later tomorrow and fill you guys in on how it went.

Just thought i would throw out a bone and show you what a beauty she is.

DesertRC -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/17/2006 11:47:10 AM)

Well how did it go? I bought one for my son for xmas. Looks like a great product.

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/18/2006 5:20:52 AM)

well did as I said and took it out today.....had an experienced pilot fly it and he said that it was much more stable than the BCP. overall he was pretty impressed considering the level it is. then i took the controls and hopped it around. later today after a charg i took it out again and was getting some decent hovers (5-10 sec apiece) then the inevitable happened....lol. she spilled on her side from about 6 inches high and THWAP!!!! the blade struck the tail boom. So back to my LHS and one tail boom, a blade grip, and some main rotors she was back to flying condition. repairs were only 23 bucks. so i really can't complain. Ill kepp things up to date.

tgwolf:

I have the same heli and freq (white - 36). I really enjoy the heli.[:)] What kind of flight time are your getting with your bird? It reallyseems desent. Mostly hovering and drifting. Have about 8 flights on mine and haven't played with the idle-up switch much, but that should give more power. More than I need right now. [;)]

Thanks.

dfalcon -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/18/2006 8:48:18 PM)

If any of you guys has a pitch gage, can you measure the stock pitch curves for me? I'm going to set it up with my Futaba 9C as soon as the rx freq crystal arrives later this week. I switched the servos out for HS-55's so it's already to late for me to check the stock pitch myself.

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/19/2006 9:58:28 AM)

As far a flight times.....about 8-10 minutes of hopping. picked up a second battery, but having a blasat with it though. oh and i played with the idle up (staying on the ground) and it really ramped up the head speed!

I don't have a pitch gauge but i think i remember reading somewhere that it was +12 to -12. Don't hold me to it though.

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/20/2006 8:57:40 AM)

well i purchased some 3 foot carbon rod to replace the one footers that came with the heli to be used for the training gear. what an improvment! great for getting used to the controls. much less fear of having a blade hit. i'll keep you guys posted. so far i have been very happy with the copter.

DesertRC -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/20/2006 10:16:49 AM)

Sounds great! Thanks for the report.[:D]

mydartswinger -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 2:22:06 AM)

Just picked one up myself today. This is my second flying heli (I don't have radio gear, ESC, or Charger to charge the 12 cell pack on my Ikarus Eco 8), first was a Blade CX which I sold to get this one. I was very impressed with the way it held the tail, which was my biggest concern. I was unfortunately concentrating to much on the tail that I didn't pay as much attention to the cyclic as I should have and I had the same incident as tgwolf. I broke a blade grip, bent the tail boom, and ripped some of the covering off of the blade. The blades spin very smoothly and quickly. This is gonna be a fun heli.

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 7:44:37 AM)

dartswinger....make sure you check your center hub for squarness. after i put the new blade grip, blades, and tail boom i had a vibration. looked into the problem and the center hub was the cause. only 4 bucks to replace.

mydartswinger -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 2:15:11 PM)

Will do. I'm not going to replace the blade unless it affects the flight of the heli. The only damage done to the blade was a small section of the covering. But before I get it airborne again, I'm going to check the tracking of the blades and for vibration.

DIVR6347 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 4:36:28 PM)

i got one the other day
mine is the purple one and i thought it would be a cool heli to fly outdoors
so i set it up as per the manual and took her outside only to watch the heli sit on the ground and spin the tail around in circles
it will not lift at all just sits there and spins like a top when wide open

it is going back to lhs today so we will see what happens

strong_material -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 9:00:36 PM)

you should let the battery cool down for at least 10 mins before you fly it. otherwise the battery will just die on you and the spinning will continue.

quickster47 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 10:54:19 PM)

I received my white, CH36, Axe this morning and the first thing I did, after I ran the stock battery once, was change the crystal so I can use it with my Futaba 7CH. I am also using FullyMaxx 11.1v 860mah 15C LiPos from BP Hobby. They work great in the Axe. It is pretty stable in the hover and I think this is because it weighs so much for a micro.

It is also nice that the Axe is included with the latest version of RealFlight G3.5.

More later as Christmas travel is in the plans for tomorrow.

DIVR6347 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/21/2006 11:54:30 PM)

stupid me

took my axe back to the lhs so see if they could help undo the spinning/no lift issue and the guy who always helps me suggested i put the blades on correctly and everything will be a lot better

he was right they were upside down
fixed it trimmed it and checked blade tracking and maidened it thing flies sweet real stable in a hover and responds well to control input

this and my t rex 450 are going to be a lot of fun!! [:D]

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/22/2006 3:50:25 AM)

its all good. just make sure your having fun. thats what this hobby is all about.

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/22/2006 4:44:50 AM)

well i just got done with some more training and i am stoked. First off im a poor college student, and the only indoor place i have to practice is my livingroom/kitchen/bedroom......lol. "flying" space is only about 5x7. so i figure if i can get hover down to a science here i can almost anywhere.

I was able to get a few decent hovers in, and the smile on my face is freakin huge! Good luck to all my fellow axe cp flyers.

greyhnd1 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/23/2006 5:02:52 AM)

I am considering purchasing a HeliMax CP. I am brand new to helicopters, I am an avid r/c plane pilot. I was wondering how close is flying the HeliMax cp on Real Flight G3.5 compared to the real thing? I do pretty good with Real Flight, and was wondering if that was a good comparison to the real thing.
Thanks

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/23/2006 5:46:55 AM)

its pretty close. i would have to say its a tad more touchy in real life. but not to bad. from what ive seen and heard it is much more stable than the blade. Don't get me wrong, im not dogging the blade, its a great helicopter with great support. the axe is a new product, and like you im new to the hobby of heli's. so far after a week of practice i can now hold a good hover in my apartment. my only suggestion is that which ever one you buy, make sure you get atleast one extra battery.

between the three that i was choosing between (axe cp, bladae cp pro, esky HB cpII) i went with the axe for two main reasons. it looked and felt more solid than the other two, and my lhs carried parts. thats a big factor in my book (whether or not your LHS carries the parts) no one wants to wait for parts to come in the mail.

hope this helps

PilotLight -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/23/2006 11:27:49 AM)

Bought one last week. New to heli's, but having a blast. Got the blades on right and everything. Still working on the hover, but getting better every flight. Mode 1 plane pilot learning mode 2 helis but its a great machine to learn on.

You're right, the smile on my face is about to reach my ears!

tgwolfwood1981 -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/23/2006 11:48:14 AM)

man, i tell you, everytime i see another post of someone who has just purchased the axe cp and is enjoying it just reiterates this being an exceptional heli. Love it. hope everyone is having fun.

glowfuel -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/23/2006 3:58:48 PM)

yep,

It is really a slick design for sure. Am very please will the AXE CP. Most impressed with how well the tail holds in a hover. The Blade CP kept drifting from what I read, but the AXE CP is solid. Heli-Max has a winner here.

CRAZYRYAN -> RE: HeliMax Axe CP purchase!!!!!! (12/23/2006 6:04:43 PM)

well ya'll im gonna get this one after all, ive been looking at so many other helis way too expensive and you had to use your own transmitter makes it more costly, so i thought well ill get this one sounds like one hell of a sweet deal! Now i can chase my little dog around my acre see what he thinks. i might even consisder putting a micro camera on and a more powerfull motor to lift the camera and do some recordings of my flights.
