Just yesterday I purchased a used but in great condition 26% Carden 300S w/o motor but w/ servos, & hope you folks who may be familiar w/ this model (no longer manufactured) can offer some info about it as the owner said he took it in on trade & never flew it.
Albert, who is doing a build thread here on a 300S gave me the ph# for Carden which I'll do tomorrow but still I'm hoping there may be invaluable info from you users out there.
The airframe w/ servos, tank, etc, weighs 10 lb & is 78" span X 68" long & I was hoping to use a 2.4 Brison I have, however to get it to balance anywhere near the wing tube, a ton of nose weight will be needed-----main question---does anyone know where the CG is, or how to calculate it ? I would think a formula would be typical up thru the various sizes.
Also, is the 300S airframe typically tail heavy & what motor might be appropriate for this bird ?
It is possible there may be lead tucked away in the tail ??
I temporiarily mounted a G62 in the nose & a ballparked CG near the wing tube would be attainable but I think HP might be overkill ?-----though I'd prefer adding more HP than lead to get CG.

Hopefully someone out there may have some comments about this bird, even non-specific----& maybe why Carden discontinued it ?

Status: offline 		Well, the Cg is normally 30 to 33% of the chord @ the wing root. It depends of course
which motor you you use for balance. I did the drawings an the Carden aircraft both the 300
and the Cap 232. Both planes used the same wing. I owned both the 29% and the 35%.
I used the Moki 1.8 in the 29% and the Spehar 4.6 twin in the 35%. never had any balance problems with either. As far as discontinuing the 29%, dennis told me they just didn't
sell well.

airrds----Thks, this is a BIG help-----to get the CG w/o adding lead, do you think a Q52 or G62 would be too much overkill ?

I'am building a 26% Carden Extra. The instructions say's the following (The center of gravity indicated on the plans is 6" back from the leading edge of the wing at the root. This converts to approximately 3 1/4" from the leading edge of the wing at the tip.

One more question if you don't mind,---what kind of weight does Carden mention for this airframe ?

I assume all of your tail servos go in the tail which is where these are, (correct ?) as I'm still trying to understand why this is so tail heavy.

Status: offline 		I think that mine was 11 or 12 pounds with the 1.8 moki. i also deviated from the instructions
and mounted all my servos up in the canopy hatch area and ran metal pushrods and a pull pull system to the rudder. that did away with my balance issues.

Status: offline 		Thks again Ron, that may be what I'll have to do w/ this if possible (I just did this on a used 540 T) as I'd really like to use my powerfull little 2.4 Brison w/ little or no additional weight.
Do you think I could get a set of plans for this from Carden ?

Status: offline 		OK, here are a couple of pics in ye olde shop--not the greatest, but makes visible the non-gawdy color scheme which I really like----the wings are different on the underside. I'd give it a 9 out of 10 esthetically & a 10 structurally.
I found by mocking up/mounting the RX & ign batteries along the carb side of the Brison which can be put there via a special mount, & using a 1" dia X 1.15" steel spinner adaptor which I'll make, the 6" CG dimension given by Buddy can just be gotten so I think this is what I'll do. This will probably be the only 2.4 w/ a flywheel.
The only additional weight added then will be the spinner adaptor.
