I'm just getting started on my Ziroli Stuka, and was wondering how everyone does their panel lines and rivets. I've seen the dry transfer type and they look really good. I've also seen the type that you apply, an clear coat over them, but they seem to protrude (stick-up) in a non-scale appearance. I'm working on my cockpit now...I was fortunate to acquire several photographs of the real thing. I'm looking forward to the finished plane. Thanks, Benny

Cant wait to see your stuka, one of my favs, ill cruise the net and look for some rivets or panel lines--but have you looked at flite-metal yet.

I have built 5 Stuka,s and my documentation shows (Squadron Signal books) show rivets being of both types. Some are raised and a small amount were flush. This was a very roughly finished aircraft. I made panel lines with 1/32 tape and primer followed by the color coats. Rivets were made with glue dots on raised types and a small piece of sharpened tubing on the flush type. John,I went to your site...Simple neat and effective process. Especially for the panel lines. Have you tried the dry transfer process? I've seen some of it already done, but haven't been able to question anyone about how involved the process is. I was in England several years ago, and observed both types of rivets on the stuka. In a museum there they had several crashed and recovered Stuka's on display and parts of several more in storage. I t seemed to me that the fuselage panels and the wing panels that were attached to spars were flush riveted and the main overlaps and structural attachments were larger and rounded (protruding) rivets. I have a stack of documentation also, but have never been able to be sure until I saw the actual item in the museum... Benny

Benny I have never tried the dry transfer method. If youy use it let me know how it works. Am building another one now. I changed the wing into a 3 piece wing so I could leave the center section on the fuselage for storage and transportation. That way its sits on the wheels the whole time. Used aluminun tubing and dowels for the joint. This is to be my last. I hope. Stuka John N

John---can you post (or email) your 3-piece wing mod? How much weight did it add to the finished weight of the plane? Did you use an aluminum tube and anti-rotation dowels? Thanks,...WarpedWing

HI BENNY,WHAT SCHEME WILL YOU BE USING FOR YOUR STUKA AND DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER WARBIRDS?I HAVE THE SNAKE ON MINE.G62 WORKS WELL FOR POWER WITH 3 BLADE PROP.

Snake Stuka...I haven't decided on the Paint scheme yet. I also have a G62 which I use on the Piper Brave !/4 scale Crop Duster. It holds abut 15 lbs of Fire Ant Bait...But you know I wouldn't use it for actual Spreading of insecticides without the proper permits. How did you produse the panel lines and rivits on your Stuka? And no I don't have any other warbirds. My next one wil be the Junkers JU-88 Twin engine...Similar to the P-38. Benny

Yep...I still have it Aaron...I haven't flown it in a year or 2...Took the G62 off to put on the stuka...It holds and carries about 15 lbs payload. Its a Crop Duster, and it will dust....

Yes Mustang - we Stuka flyers can get a little loud now and then, especially when flying together with sirens wailing (Joe Nall, we had 5 flying in formation). I got decapitated last May by a Thunderbolt, but will be resurrecting her soon. Gotta have a Stuka in my Air Force! By the way Mustang - love that 190!

Hey...... some fine Looking Stuka pic's...Lotsa good work evident... Anyone feel like a little more discussion on Rivets and Panel Lines? I'm still looking for suggestions. I'm looking for some comments on the dry transfer method...It seems like it would be the quicker method and most consistent in regards to the spacing...Whatcha think? Benny

Thanks Nickrc3...she's one of my baby's. Nice looking Stuka, Snake Stuka. Think I might go ahead and put a snake on mine...looks kool. Benny, Dry transfers are great but only "simulate" flush rivets. Look good from a distance but not so good up close. Dave Platt shows a glue method in his video tapes using a finely tipped applicator bottle and watered down glue that works very nicely. For my flush rivets I take a small brass tube, insert it into a soldering pencil and burn the rivets in. Best rivets I have seen yet. - Mustang51

Well Benny one method is to burn the flush rivets in with a 30 to 40 watt pencil iron that has a brass tubing on the end the size you need.Burn it into the primer then slightly sand with 400.For raised rivets just use glue drops.Unfortunately I ended up drilling and backfilling every one of my flush rivets on my Stuka because of my experimenting with rivets.Turned out to look great anyway.I hope to get closer shots of Stuka soon.
