Well, I have my new copy of AFPD with the Airtronics USB Interface installed and running great. I would like to thank Mike (AKA Rajul) He really went the extra mile for by calling me from home after he got home from work at OMP to help me fix some channel mapping issues with my RD6000S I have to install a profile for my Stylus now, I bought an adapter so I can plug it into the Interface cable.

I really like the sim, I had RFG2 Deluxe w 3 add on discs before and I got myself a new Dell PC 4.5 months ago and didn't even bother to reload RF and I really did not want G3.5 as it wont support my Stylus. I wasn't super impressed by RF but it was fun. The first time I tried AFDP I flew the P51 and took off flew around for a bit then shot a landing approach and landed (Okay one bounce) on the runway. That was something difficult for me before as I really felt as if I couldnt see the runway to line up on approach. I am sure that G3.5 is much better with the problems I had and probably would have bought it but it would not support all my radios.

I do have a question for you guys with super fast PC's I am running two GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB video cards in SLI configuration. When I look at the Frames per second meter in the small box on the corner it reads 60 all time and never goes above or below, not even the numbers to side of the decimal point. I know I need to tweak my video cards but I was curious what you all are getting? With everything turned up high the screen never even flinches its silky smooth?
Thanks for any help or info.
Viper

I have a Radeon x1600 Pro with 512 MB or RAM. I just upgraded my video card from a Ge Force 5200 fx 128 card. I would think yours would smoke with a 7800 card. My frames per second will go over 300 with some of the planes on a photo realistic background. Regarding your 60 frames per second, check under the Graphics Options and see if you Vertical Sync is on. This will keep the frames per second at 60....does on mine also. If you turn it off you should get alot more. Not really sure what the vertical sync does honestly. Maybe someone could enlighted us.

Thanks Harley, that did the trick now my FPS stay at 600+ and the sim is smooth even with everything turned on and up high
I am very impressed by the sim I have only flown a couple of planes but with the seamless awesome graphics and the fact that I can use my own transmitters is great. I had thought about G3.5 and I am sure its also a great sim but it wont support my radios and I really dont want use that box that I had to with G2. The physics of the planes in AFDP are awesome I shot an approach with the P51 and was able to land on the runway with the flaps down and I could actually flare for the touchdown and it just felt real (Okay I bounced once ) I need to download the newest drivers for my video cards if there are any my PC is just barely 5 months old. I am very happy with its performance and tomorrow I am buying the second add on disc Starflight and see how it works with the new planes and scenery.
Thanks Again
Viper

Joe, congrats and well done! When you have installed the Starflight add-on, don't forget to download and run the 1.9.7.7 patch http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5028560/tm.htm

Thanks Mike, I need to go on to my video cards site and get the latest driver versions as the ones I have are about a year old and I will all look at the Creative site for my sound card. I forgot to order StarFlight today so I could have it Xmas Oh well I will order it tonight and get it next week. I am looking forward to trying out the new planes and scenery. All in all I am very happy with my choice in flight sims I really do like it. I still need to setup my Stylus I'll probably do it this weekend. One thing thats very cool is that in Expert setup mode you can use your radios EPA and EXPO its very cool. I will download the patch for Starflight.
THanks Again
Joe

Joe, it's important to instal the starflight disk first, followed by the patch. If the sequence is not followed, you will have to do a complete re-install of AFPD. You made the perfect choice!

Mike, thanks for letting me know I really had no intention to do it until after I loaded Starflight I think you told me in a PM or Mail but it stuck with me. I am sorry if I was frustrating you on the phone but now that I understand the software mapping channels is a piece of cake!.
I am very happy with my choice and I cant believe my PC runs at 600+fps with everything turned up to high it will be interesting to see what happens when I update my video boards driver and sound card driver
Thanks Again
Joe

PS: I defintely dont want to reload the program

Joe, to keep all your settings, make a backup copy of your config folder. The config folder is located in:
C:\Program Files\IPACS\AeroFly Professional Deluxe\config
After installing the patch you can paste back your config folder. Then re-calibrate your radio.

Mike, am I going to need to remap the channels and sticks for my radio after I install Starflight and then the patch and paste the config file back?
Or do I just need to recalibrate it? I still need to order
Thanks Joe

If you copy back the original config folder, you don't need to remap, but you will need to recalibrate. That's pretty easy to do

If you can run everything on high like you said, you should turn on vsync, it cleans up the chopped frames to make the BEST picture possible. Even with it off there still might be a few unnecessary frames. Vertical synchronization simply cleans up the picture, but if you have a good gpu, like you do you don't really need it because it can process the video fast enough, but it still makes the picture better overall, you probably will not be able to see much of a difference, but on lower end gpus you will.

Here is a good definition: Vertical Synchronization is an option found in many games that allows the frame rate of the game to be matched to the refresh rate of the monitor. Generally, allowing VSync provides the greatest stability, but turning it off can allow for much higher frame rates. The downside of the greater speed is the potential for artifacts to develop.

Have a happy holiday,
Matt

Well, it runs at 650+ FPS without VSync I need to download the latest drivers for my video boards and sound card I just havent had time to but the sim is smooth and my Dell 27" wide screen LCD monitor looks great infact I turned the sim down a couple of notches from the native resolution of my monitor to get the best speed and picture at least thats what the directions say?
Like I said I will download the newest drivers this weekend and then tweak my video section but truthfully I am happy with how its running now and it runs stable with no crashes
I am going to install my new scanner and Logitech gaming mouse before I do the video drivers, oh this leads me to a question for Mike.

Mike, should I get Starflight and install it and the patch before I update my drivers if they are available or does it matter???
Thanks Again Guys.
Joe
