I did a build thread for the C-130 on the other site, RCGroups, the nito to electric conversion forum. I also posted a really good quality video of build number #1 stalling just like jersue and crashing. I learned a big lesson on build number one, so I did another build. Check out the video of build number 2.

Better still, I will post both videos here and you can see what the electic conversion can do.

Please don't respond to this post here, respond on the other site where I can find it.

Just that there isn't another C-130 that is easy to get hold of in the UK so this is maybe my only option unless I want to be stung with inport duty on a $300 Kit...

A friend bought one from RIPMAX Hobby Stores in Cambridge.

Kool Beans, GMan...

What engines are you using? I have RCV .91--having idle problems with one--haven't flown yet. Also weight problem--had to add a group to the nose and I'm changing the nose gear to Robarts.

if i would have known about all the promblems and poor quality of this plane I would have not gotten it

Thank god for this forum, my wallet is staying firmly in my pocket. I saw a couple of videos of this model flying not very impressed with the flying quality.

I saw one video where the guy does a high speed bank to the right and the model goes into high speed tip stall and bites the dirt. In my opinion there is a distinct lack of stability at high speed and low speeds alike. Another guy crashed when initiating a low speed turn into finals?

I am not sure what the problem is High Wing loading? lack of washout/dihedral on the wings? I nearly bought one from Ripmax in UK, but a friend beat me to it. Boy am I glad he did?

Good luck to all those who are about to fly this thing.

hey guys i just got in from flying my asm c-130,today made the 4th flight .i have seen and watched the videos of the plane spinning in i do not understand what is going on with that i put mine in some pretty steep turns today with half throttle and made final apporach turn with full flaps and engines at a fast idle, mine was steady as a rock.in all other 3 flights it has had no tendency to stall or drop wing tip.i just do not know. not to say the next time i fly mine it spirals to the dirt!!!! randy m

Good show, randy m. My new fuselage arrived yesterday from Hobby People. Only one small crack in the PVC in the belly---easily fixed. Only cost $25 in shipping. Thanks Hobby People. Keep that Herc in the air. Maybe I'll join you one of these days with a little better luck that my first flight on #1. Jerry

Well, this is a good discussion. I also fell in love with, at least the photographs shown on the different magazines.
I am looking forward to hear your comments on construction, flying and why not, repair as well.

This was an electric motor bird and my observation was it lost a prop on #4 engine and therefore engine failure. I have over 45 flights on my herk and at least 5 with 1 engine out. IF you mix right and have experience flying multi this is a very stable bird with no tip stall tendency. I have actually done test stalls and just hold full up the nose will gently drop and recover without releasing elevator. But my bird is the same size as the arf and weight but I built it myself. I’m building mine slowly but surely. I have my retracts installed but damn near every T fitting is leaking—unbelievable. I replaced two with quality Ts that I bought for my F-15 turbine—as soon as I added those, leaks from other Ts began. I’m ordering new lines and will simply redo the whole cotton picking thing.

Went to a Jet Rally past Sunday—got me all fired up to build my F-15—have had it since Jan 07 and have done nothing to it. So many planes to build with no room and little time to do it.

Ours has flown last Sunday successfully! Well that is barring the excessive down trim on the stab, excessive right aileron trim, trapping the front gear door and breaking the steering cables. The OS 32's were great in power and reliability and the Spektrum was without a glitch!

Post flight inspection reveals the right stab at 1/4*+, left stab 3/4*- ! Right main wing root 4*+, right main center 5*+, right tip 5*+ ! Left main root 4 1/4*+, left main center 4*- and the left tip 3*- I didn't bother to zero it but did block it up to get an idea what was going on.

Yeah, I know. I'm lucky it flew successfully. I almost lost it after trimming it . During the stall test, no flaps . It snapped off to the right . I added power and was able to fly it out!

Here are a few pics taken during the maiden flight. To be fair it was awesome to see it fly and with the apparent warps, it was fairly stable. Yes it is all white as it's slated to be painted gray. That is after trying to fix things.

I just recently ( 3 weeks ago) lost the ASM DH88 Comet due to the aileron servo mount pulling away from the sheeting during it's maiden.

I am not very happy with these two arfs from ASM to say the least. I do not want to flame or be derogatory but this forum is, at least, for help and relating experiences honestly.

I sorry to say, Mr DJ, I think I would build that F-15 instead if my time was limited!

great job on getting it back on the ground,it is too bad they can not put a better kit out for that much money! mr Dj my fittings leaked also .I said before and will say again if you have retracts check your WELDS ON THE MAIN GEAR they will break!!!!! someone asked about flaps i have them but they do not seem very helpful. my plane weighs 19.8# with gms 32. 9-8 3 blades. flys at half stick with plenty of power to spare. as for post flight repairs you will have a few more till you get about 4-5 flights on it, just from things shaking loose, main gear breaking, engine pods getting loose, that was the way with mine anyway. randym

Randy M

We have a war bird showing in Sep/Oct—I wish to have my C-130 built by then, along with my KMP B-25; my Hangar 9 P-47 150; my Gee Bee, and my F-15. I also have a KMP Cessna 337 that is built but not flow—issues with one of the RCV .91 engines. I’m going to remove them and place them on the B-25 and use the RCV SP 120s that were for my B-25 on the 337. One of these days I’ll get around to swapping the engines. I also have two pushers to build: a 90” flying wing and a Long EZ 160.

But FGPierce is right, I need to build my turbine and really have some fun. I went to a Jet Rally last Sunday, I’m most sure that a few of them were doing 300-mph—legally only 200-mph is allowed in the US—no restrictions overseas.

Thanks Randy M
I have to agree, they should be more mind full of their customers! Thanks for the heads up on future problems. I had to keep tightening the main nacelle bolts between engine runs as they vibrate loose. Locktite to be used here for sure!

Have fun at the warbird meet!

Mr DJ
For sure on the F-15! No contest there.
You have some nice projects to do. I have the B-25 ( OS 61's) but need to finish it up. My freind has the KMP 336. Nice flyer! He has magnum 91 4 strokers. Good power but I'm not happy with the reliability . Then again the 336 is the twin to have unreliable engines as it's not a problem when a front or rear engine dies. Make sure the rear tank is correct in placement! Backwards to engine or clunk to the rear! If it's fuel delivery problems try a perry PUMP/REGULATOR!

Right now I'm assembling a KMP F7F tigercat...... Awesome! ...... But it won't hit 300 though

Hey RandyM

Do you know what your incidence readings are for your left wing, right wing incidence a the root and tip? More importantly the reading between the Stab/elev to the main wings.
When your stab is at zero, does your fuselage show approximately a 3 degree + rise in the nose? Or with the fuse level at 0* does your stab show 3*- ?
+
I got ahold of another set of wings that measure out well and moved all the equipment over to them and I'd set the stabilizer for a test flight this weekend

I'm starting to feel like I'm chasing ghosts to get this thing right!
Thanks for your help if you can,
Fred

Fred/Randy

Did either of you come up with a cover for the huge whole for the nose retract? As we all agree, that crap they designed for the door was and is a joke. I’m now left with a Sponge Bob Square Pants whole in the nose of mine.

I crashed my 4-Star 60 last week—with nothing to fly other than my Cessna 337 still with engine issues, I started building my Lighting Dart flying wing last night—need something for this weekend.

I need my booty kicked, for I just ordered Hangar 9’s Sundowner ARF 1.80 with and Evo 35GT gasser with a Bisson Pitts muffler with 6 HiTec 625MG servos all for the ridiculously low price of $1102. Plane due for release on 13 Jun—maybe I’ll see it around 20 Jun.

I keep telling myself and the guys in the club that I’m not buying another freakin’ plane—that I’m saving up $20K for my next turbine—a Yellow Aircraft F-14 1/9 scale. But nooooo, what do I do—I freakin’ blow more doe on these prop jobbers while having 6 other giant scale birds sitting in their freakin’ boxes. I need help, guys!!!

Mr DJ
