hey, great thread by the way, lots of great info on here, i've read back a long way on here to learn what 1/5 scale to buy and have now decided on the firehammer... $ was the main factor there, plus it looks like with minor driveline mods it could hold up pretty well. i looked at all fg's and the baja, but for 700.00 for a new fh i looks like a good deal, now if the wife will just up the visa i'll click buy it now... and it is a possibility that kmart would have some air filter oil for lawn tracors / chain saws... as long as its tacky and the air filter is completly covered, it would do. otherwise just wait, although i'm sure your ready to hear it run. merry christmas.

i run K&N spray oil on mine, used it on my atv'sin the pass, useing it on my fg's for the past 2 years without any problems. Its red and sticky but washed away real good. I spray some on the inside of the airfilter and on the ends whehe it touches bothe the carb and the end of it. When sprayed well enough it gets all red, when washing it it all comes off clean as a whistle, I hate the other kinds that render the filter so sticky that there a pain to clean after.

If you are not running in a dusty area you could use the Duratrax oil for today. Duratrax wouldn't include it if it didn't provide some measure of protection.

I use a spray oil product called PJ1. It is very sticky and designed for dirt bike use. I put the foam filter in a plastic grocery, spray it on (its red in color so it is easy to see where you have missed) squeeze the filter inside the bag so the oil will soak through the filter foam. Do this to both inner and outer elements.

I have only ever had dirt on the outer filter just like hellya's pictures show. The inner filter element has always been perfectly clean. You can pull the blue cover off to see how much gunk has collected on the outer foam. I usually clean mine every 2 - 3 tanks of gas. Use Dawn dish washing liquid and warm water and the PJ1 (or whatever oil you use) will rinse right out with the dirt. Make sure to use a lot of clean water at the end to rinse out the Dawn soap. Let the foams dry thoroughly before respraying. I squeeze out as much water as possible in paper towels.

For break-in most here run quarter throttle or so varying the throttle as you drive around for the first tank. Run for 15 minutes and then let it cool down completely and go again. At this throttle it will take 4 runs to use up a tank. Go to half throttle for the next tank varying the throttle and run for 15 minute chunks again. On the third tank you can begin to go over half throttle but try to avoid full throttle.

After your break-in tanks your buggy will likely start to run like crap. That just means the carburator settings for break-in are no longer right for post break-in running. Take a small flat blade screwdriver and run the H and L carb screws all the way in and then back them out 1.25 to 1.5 turns out. Don't adjust your idle screw this is usually fine where it is from the factory. Run the buggy for a while to see how it runs. Does it smoke too much? Does it bog down when you apply full throttle before taking off? Let the engine warm up for a few minutes and then adjust the screws. Don't do it cold.

There are many threads on the forum about carb adjustments.

Okay thanks, i did'nt notice any air filter oil bottle or anything resmbleing air filter oil
in the box of the FH, i will check, might it be in the styrofoam packageing ? or do they
not include this ? I wrote your info in my FH ledger so okay, different choices of name
brand filter oil, that's cool. on another subject, i was going over the hammer and found
it not-RTR-, the turn buckle ( i think that's what it is ) was not attached to the servo
( front wheel rt side ) so i was able to pry it back on. It seems as they would detach
themselves under a lot of stress such as jumps and high speed turns, should i be
concerned ?

K&N Air Filter Oil is the only oil specially formulated to work in combination with the cotton fabric in K&N Filtercharger® elements providing a superior air filtration system. When used as directed, it quickly penetrates the filter pleats, where it remains suspended in the cotton fabric.

K&N filter oil is not made for foam air filters, it's made for cotton ones ie K&N's. That's why it is so easy to clean out of a foam filter cause it doesn't work properly and breaks down easily.

if you think it doesnt work well on foam filters your wrong, its works extremely well.
it IS sticky and it does stick very well to airfilters, again, probably cause its K&N might be a reason why you would aproove of it, or simply cause you dont use it. Thats used on alot of atv's and offroad vehicules. Buy a small can and see how it is when applied, you will be surpised.

I've seen many of $5000+ quad's and dirt bikes have engines destroyed cause of their crap air filters. I also had a f350 suck coal dirt into the engine due to a K&N not being able to filter it properly and cause engine failure. I've used their so called filter oil and have dealt with their support on the issue of my truck engine being ruined cause of their filters inability to work as they claimed it did. They don't impress me at all. They are fine for onroad use only thats about all.

The oil clearly states it's for cotton ONLY air filters....so why do you use it on a foam filter when it isn't anywhere near the quality of real foam filter oil.
