I run the steel pinion with a plastic spur (alloy spur carrier) and have no problems. The spur was a spare in my box that has a few chipped teeth and it is still in great shape.

Get the steel pinion and use the money that you would spend on a steel spur for other bullet proofing or go-fast stuff first. Keep a spare spur gear in your box but I doubt you will need it.

Checked out a Firehammer MT today.
The small motor mount is alloy, the diff looks like the alloy upgraded one, and the other alloy supports look thicker.
The air filter is a short round filter about 1" thick, would be nice size if adding a reed kit.
I hope parts show up soon, I want the side rails and a few other parts.
here is your parts http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=firehammer+mt&FVPROFIL=++&search3=Go

personally its a choice, you like buggy or MT, if buggy then i have to make my call on the Baja. though you can get the FH Carson Smartech lines cheaper

Dirby,

Theres actually many more gasseres than that. Theres a blur in the 1/5, 1/6 scales descriptions. But that dont matter.

I had a Firehammer two years ago and it was great. But I would recommend a Baja if your interested in a "buggy".
And the biggest reason is, the name HPI.
Also if your in the US there is more and more local hobby shops carrying them since they are already HPI dealers.
Being able to drive to a LHS for parts means a lot. Trust me, as small as my local stores are and they carry it, thats a good thang.

True the Baja is new but Im seeing a lot of interest in it and the development of aftermarket parts.

While I like the Baja better than the Firehammer I don't think you can knock the LHS and on-line parts availability of the Firehammer, XTM, Smartech and Carson 'clone' buggies.

There are Duratrax dealers all over (and they also usually carry HPI alongside). Tower Hobbies has Duratrax as well. If you need a Firehammer part and Tower and the LHS is out you can go over to Hobby People and buy the XTM buggy branded parts. The XTM parts are WAAAYYY over priced compared to Duratrax but it is an option if you get in a pinch.

Now that Duratrax has picked up the Smartech truck the same support will go for it - Duratrax dealers, Tower Hobbies and Hobby People (XTM Grizzly is the same truck).

It's great to see so much support for all our gassers.

I bought mine direct from Outerwears.
There are others you can buy these from and also on e-pay.
I think it was like $25, I know over priced, but it is very nice and easy to remove and clean.
Not to mention it works great, its a must have..

I picked up my Outerwears stuff at DDM (davesmotors.com). The pullstart cover was around $20 and the air filter cover is around $15. I also got shock socks.

Use the RCU coupon code for a discount.

On a Firehammer air filter can the air filter cover needs something to cinch it tight around the plastic part of the housing. This would keep dirt from getting sucked in through this opening. I have pondered sticking one side of velcro to the inside of the filter cover and the other to the plastic part of the air filter housing. Then you could velcro seal the cover all the way around. This should provide a pretty good dirt blocker. I tried a non-sticky self-binding velcro strip around the outside of the filter cover to the plastic part of the housing but could not get it cinch tightly or stay in place. I suppose the self-binding velcro might work if you were wrapping it around the part of the housing that mates to the carburator.

Anybody come up with a good way to seal this up?

The stock white body you see on the FireHammer? Well, That is it!! U might be able to use a marder body. But you have to remove one of the front shock tower to use the marder body.Because it sits alittle lower than the hammer body.

firehammer is a knockoff of the FG. nice unit, but i d rather wear my Levis than the cheaper knockoffs.

im a basher and i mean B A S H E R !!!!! for me it was the Well thought out Design, and the multitude of improvements HPI made with the baja in comparrision with any of other large scales out there. also HPI being a world wide company, parts availabilty and the price of most of them are good. now some HPI prices SUCK. for instance, to get the stock baja motor from HPI 250.00 same motor with out the HPI FEULIE sticker at DDM is 150.

part of HPIs appeal is the CS here in the states, i had an issue with a HB motor. HPI CS was all over it and had me a new motor in about a 13 days on an RA!

finaly the look, i LOVED the look of a nice sand rail, and teh baja is ZEEE NICEST rc sandrail imo.
