Thanks for the reply Mike, I liked the way it flew, but I've had to make so many mods/repairs (poor glue joints on wood to fiberglas, weak fiberglas, beefing up areas, poor landing rails/blocks) that I was ready to pull the gear and sell it. I'm running a DLE30 gasser and still had to add about 8-12ozs. of nose weight. Maybe, retracts add a decent amount of weight. I usually don't like to fly warbirds on the tail heavy side, but since you said it's not bad on this bird, I'll remove some nose weight and give it another shot.

Mine taxies and flies great. I didnt have to add any weight to it at all. I have robart retracts in it also. All my batteries are under the servo tray. Sounds like the landing gear is not raked forward enough, that could cause some ground handling problems to.

My batteries are in front of the servo tray. No extra weight in the rear, it stock fuse except for adding some reinforcement wood/epoxy to the wing bolt area. I'm using the stock fixed landing gear, and I have noticed that some folks have moved their retracts further forward. If my repair doesn't hold up, I'll look into opening it up to the leading edge and see what I can do to mount it more forward. It's as far forward as I can get it which is right up to the where the fiberglas lip starts ( approx. 1" from the LE). Did you guys mount your retracts to the thin crappy original ply rails or did you cut them out and add new? DG

I actually beefed mine up a little more. I shimmed my gear to push the axle closer to the LE of the wing. That way I didnt have to cut into the LE of the wing. My gear still sets in the wheel wells really good also

Hello Everyone
Ya'll still here !!! hehehe.

Anyway, I have a question? I maidened my CMP Corsair this weekend and had some down elevator mixed in with the flaps. I engaged the flaps during one of my high passes, and the plane took a nose dive. WOW!!! Switch off the flaps and then landed shortly there after without flaps. Now! My questions is are you guys adding any elevator mix to the flaps? Or not? if so is it down elevator, or up elevator mix?

Please reply back if you can. It would save me a lot of guess work.

Also, got some video of the maiden flight which I can post if you like.

Regards, Jim

Take out the down elevator mix and you should be fine.

I did not add any flap to elevator mix on mine that I recall. How fast were you going when you flipped the switch for the flaps? How much flap? Ive got no more then 35 degrees on full flaps and 20 or so on half flaps and I have not had that problem with pitching down at all.

You need to test what it does without a mix. If the plane climbs A LOT when switching the flaps on, then you'd need a SMALL amount of down elevator mix. But....if you flipped on the flaps at high throttle, then she's gonna climb regardless. Test this at about half throttle. In any event...you shouldnt need a mix. its normal for a plane to want to climb slightly with half/full flaps on at above "stall speed without flaps".

Thanks Kahlog
I will remove the elevator mix, and try that. I had just set up the mix like what was in my TF P-47 Thunderbolt.

Generally speaking... gear down usually pitches the Corsair down, and the flaps down usually pitches the Corsair up. I found they cancel each other out enough to not worry about any mixes.

kahlog! I haven't seen any of your posts in a long time. Where you been? What threads are you active in? You have the coolest planes I've ever seen. I wish I belonged to your RC club...

My next project...aside from weathering my BH Stuka(I painted it in a winter scheme)...is the ESM Dornier-335. However, Ive gotten side tracked with a scratch built Terminator Hunter-killer Aerial heavy assault machine.
This thing will be about 7-8 feet wide with 3 shrouded rotors and assorted goodies. Im trying to get it to look as close to this pic as possible. I am building a smaller version to get the mechanics down and stuff to test before trying to test fly the big one, but both are being worked on at the same time.

LOL...yeah its got guns I just dont know if Id be allowed to fly it at a warbird meet. Would be pretty cool though because we do an noon time show during Warbirds over the Rockies that starts out with a WWI gaggle, then a WWII recon flight with L4 grasshopers scouting the target zone, then heavy metal warbird fighters, then the bombers...complete with fireworks, flak cannons, machine gun ground fire...etc. Then the flight of the Enola gay dropping a nuke with a nice backstory being told during the flight. After that, the jets.

See...so would be cool to THEN do the future and have the terminator machine pop out from some hidden place and scare the crap out of people while having the terminator theme music played on the loudspeakers.

Now...check this out...this is a guy in Russia that did the two fan smaller version of the HK (hunter-killer)

Hey guys
Just finished uploading my maiden flight video to Youtube this evening. Thought you all might want to check it out. So here it is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSzu7GTzZDc

She flew really nice, accept for the landing I couldn't use my flaps because my elevator mix that was not correct. So I had to chop the throttle upon landing to slow her down.

Regards, Jim
