I also would love the Corsair , some of the original problems were stated as follows --
weak landing gear mounts --ok easy to fix -(I always reinforce regardless of what it looks like
Outer wing panels did not match color exactly to inner wing panel -(same problem with Kondor models version of the Corsair)
Cowl was thin -and not exactly scale

I'm comparing the my CMP F4u with the Silver CMP P47 (Which I have and know this is the old version.)

The landing gear mounts are much more stronger(but sill modified and reinforced cuse of air reracts)
The cowling is very firm and solid
The coloring of the wing sections does match up.

On the new F4u 60size, the stickers are all done for you. but not the 120size.

Because of I-aquatic's video of the Corsair's maiden flight... I just got one from CMP.
I was stunned by the quality of the materials & finish. It's a jewel!!

I'm planning to put a Fuji 43 CC gasser on it .
Today I just ordered the wrong Robart retracs from Tower H. !!! 138 $ down the drain.

I-aquatic : What Robart retracts are you using ? (part number please)

I own several planes from CMP ... I have ZERO complaints. Their giant Cessna 182 Skylane is tunning... their 50 & 140 size Katana are awsome....
Their Chipmumks will leave you breathless...
Next on the list is their F6F Hellcat....

Hey desertbuzz!
She's a beauty ain't she?

Cannot remember the no. at the moment. I'll let you know later when I get back to the office. Why don't you get the Centry Jets retracts? If I knew about them, I would have bought them. It comes complete with oleo struts.

I went to see the 50cc Zero from a LHS here in Singapore and it was fantastic.

Taken from their website:
"The Mitsubshi A6M5 52 with wingspan of 2100mm is the biggest brother from the CMPro Japanese Fighter Series. This model, well designed for 40~50cc gas engines, features a fiberglass moulded fuselage and painted wing panels. The attention to detail results in an extremely realistic model that flies as look as it looks. "

I read somewhere in RCU that in Feb, CMPro will be comming out with the F4u version.

But I already had a saito 150 and air retracts so I decided on the 120 size bird. So I got myself a 120 zero and building a 140 P40 for a buddy of mine. They were all great.

Hey I-aquatic,

she is indeed a beauty.

What do you think of my idea of a 43 cc gasoline engine?

If you mean the Robart 148 Mains gear retracts (Tower Hobbies part # LXES63) for 278.99 $ ...I like them a lot. Pricey but they look more scale than than the Century Jet Retracts (Tower Hobbies part # LXA799) for 224.99$.

I can't help noticing that the Robart is designed for bigger/heavier Corsairs than ours.

I'm concerned about the fit.

What size / type tires are you using?

Honestly, I'm not very knowlageble on gas engines. But people recomend me to use a 26 gasser on my zero. So a guess your 43 will be .... over kill ??? I don't know. Maybe some one else can comment on this.

About the fitting, there would be some modifications. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of this for the corsair, but I can take some pictures of the P40 retracts I'm building for you later (my) tonight. I'm doing the retracts today anyways!

I'm using the Robart 615 100 Degree Rotating Mains (2)
The weight of the plane is about 5-6kg so this set is more than enough.

The Robart 148 Mains Top Flite Giant F4U Corsair is way too big in my opinion.

So if I ready correctly, you got the correct version.

148 are for 1/5 scale , should be about 84" span , so its a little big , but my concern is weight , see if you can see what they weigh in at from tower before you buy , I remember looking at them for my 73" p40 and I opted for Sierra because they were so much lighter

I-aquatic,

First of all I want to let you know how much I appreciate your help.

The Robart system you got (615 - 100 degrees) would end up costing 254 $ once adding the other necessary parts (minus the pump).
(link to Robart 615) .

I looked at the Century Jets ... Would they work?... they are 90 degrees not 100 degrees (designed for the TopFlite Corsair)
What is the recommended for the CMP Corsair? I'm worried about putting load stress on the wrong part if angle is not right.

link here ... Please confirm. They are 225 $ for a complete kit.

Regards,

Desertbuzz

Cj makes a pair for the CMP corsair , they are the correct length and longer then the ones made for the Top Flight Corsiar , I went thru the same deal with looking at P40 gear and spitfire gear , they go for $270 complete and they are very nice gear

Your welcome.

If I was in your shoes, I'll got for the CJ retract as LDM suggested. SInce it sized up for the cmpro f4u. The robart, i had to modify alot. Even the length was an issue and I had to cut the wheel well further back. I took the photos for you but I'm not home yet so I cannot post it up yet. Will do it later.
