I just thought of sharing some pictures of my Corsair build which started in august 2006
This is my first 120 size warbird I build. But before anyone comments on the wheel direction, [&o] I know they are facing the wrong way. Got them fixed right already [:D]

Engine: Saito 150

I'm not very good in explaining in detail about my build unlike some of the great build threads here in RCU, but if anyone has any question about my build I'll be glad to explain it.

This warbird was supposed to have maiden many times before but there were always somthing not right that stoped me from flying. It was the rain, or the grass was too long... bla bla bla. But 2 weeks ago, our group drove up to Malaysia to a Micro Lite flying area with a great long runway and thats where I maiden my bird!

So how did the flight go? I had heard cmp retooled this plane and was wondering about the fiberglass on the wing, how is it holding up. Retract rails strong enough and cg location?

The flight went well. Much better than expected. The landing was very nice and slow without the flaps. But this was because there was good wind on that day. The standard mount for the retract was weak as usual but after reading that allot of guys modify the mount on their CMPro planes, I did the same from the start. I cut the retract ray out and epoxied plywood to area. Now its really strong.

The wing feels solid and the finishing is nice Matt look to. I had the old silver cmp P47 and the fuse was really soft and the wing wrinkles allot under the sun. I gave up on CMP until I saw the improvements they did on the newer planes. My and my buddy just got the 140 P40 and I got the 120 zero and it looks fantastic!

I actuall moved the retract forward a bit to try to prevent nose over when landing.

This was my first robart retract and I made the wheels to retract a bit too slow. So on the maiden flight, I had had a huge problem to get them down and locked. I tried opening and closing, flying in a bouncing manner in the air trying to get it down. NO luck. Realised that it could be because it tuned to slow and in addition this (pic) was not helping either. So I closed the retract. Then just before I did a stall turn I engaged the retract. Did another fly by and it was locked and good for landing.

I've got the zero too. Its pretty much finished except for retracts. Waiting on money and time for that one so its sitting out of the way for now. I repainted mine cause the finish was chipping off too much. Its powered by a saito 180. I also have the spitfire. It flys pretty good and scale on a saito 120.

Oh! Dont feel TOO embarassed about the wheels. I did it too. Got all the way to the field and set it up. Noticed it one second before others did. Some things you never live down. [:)]

Is that their hardware or did you replace it all! Looks like what I had on a world models cub awhile back, it was pretty good. Sounds like they've improved the corsair quite a bit. I dont think the first one had flaps did it! This is good cause thats a good size for a corsair. Do you think a saito 120 or 125 would power it ok?

Actually the hardware for the zero was much better than the f4u but this was not the reason why I got my own hardware. The only reason is the once thay gave were white and it would stand out on the blue. So I got the better black ones. Also the elevator rod is wooden (f4u) compared to the zero fiber rod.

CMpro have really improved allot. Most new planes come with the stickers already done! Only thing that bugs me a bit is they put their CMpro logo on the plane.

I chose 2 servos for the elevator only because I did not want to buy more servos. I already had 2 3kg serovs for each elevator. This should be enough.

I have some buddies flying the 120 warbird with a 120 saito without any problems and flies good too.

What was embarassing about it was a young chap (14yrs old i think) in our group spotted this mistake [:D]

Nice vid!

I am glad to see the CMP F4U in flight. I love the Corsair, but read stuff about staying away from this CMP model...

I have the CMP Zero, have ordered the Warhawk & would love to have the Corsair.


Can anyone confirm CMP has upgraded the F4U?

If yes, how do you tell the New ARF from the Old?

Probably a 26 would be more than enough. I'm not to sure about gas engines.

The only way you will know is to ask and buy from a reputal dealer like (akm ).(they sell the lasot cut su27 kit that is all over RCU ) Its either AK or AKm , do a google search . They turn a ton of inventory and they will know . I recently went to the Giant scale planes store , the original owners and distributors of CMP . I know that he has very little stock left on CMPs because he does not have exclusive distribution from the factory anymore because he can not make the shipping minimums . As you know he had a very bad rap on over charging on shipping .I can drive there so I was lucky and the store personel and owner were very friendly

He is a very interesting person to talk to and learn about the planes coming from China . He (the owner of US rights to CMP ) will be back in major distribution in the near future of all composite models from China . I will be interested to see what this guys develops , he knows the biz and what RC guys want . The original CMP spitfire is a very beutiful plane for the money , it has some scale flaws but they can be fixed .
The CMP P40 is a real gem !!!
I also would love the Corsair , some of the original problems were stated as follows --
weak landing gear mounts --ok easy to fix -(I always reinforce regardless of what it looks like
Outer wing panels did not match color exactly to inner wing panel -(same problem with Kondor models version of the Corsair)
Cowl was thin -and not exactly scale
That was what I remember , but you can email CMP in China -contact Jackie , she is very responsive and truely cares about the CMP consumer .
I have to tell you , I have over 8 warbirds from either CMP -willshobbies , evergreen ect all China based factory made planes , avg price paid is $93 to $269 , I love all of them , they all have great potential for standoff scale .
Yes they all have there issues but try building one at that price .

AKM does not show the Corsair on their wed site - Is the Nitro Planes Corsair the same one?? Where is the best place to buy this kit and get the correct one - Thanks

Yes Nitro is the same plane , and based on there sales they should have all new inventory , my problem with them is questionable communication with other RCU members .
Ask them a question in there support section of RCU and see if you get the answer you want before you buy ..

Opps also before you are getting a real CMP vs a copy from Nitro , they carry both on many of the CMP planes , but I dont think they offer two versions of the Corsair .
I know they do on the SPIT , Hellcat and P40 & FW 190 (offer copies that is )
