Four years later I am in the same position as sandman was. He went with a different engine so I will pick up where he
left off and will test the fs400ar in a SiSt FW-190. I obtained a used bird after a landing accident and have fixed the damage. Engine is already in and fits like a glove. Made a motormount which fits the existing holes for the ZG62 motormount.

first tests will be coming weekend with a 22x10 and a 20x8. Really looking forward to it :-D All I need is a new set of pipes but justengines in the uk have them and they are already in the mail.

wish me luck and I will supply tach readings

Hi..

As there was difficult to find info on how well/or bad a Radial engine would work out on a 26-28lb warbird,
I have ordered a ASP -400 65ccm Radial. I guess the only way to find this out, is by trying it out for myself.
As usual on forums like this, there is different opinions. I have been told that this wil work out just fine, and some has said it
is a shure road for disaster... So there is only one way of finding it out, and that is to test it for my self.
I know that this engine is not going to make my FW-190 a speed demon, but that was never my intension. I want something
different from all the other gas engine warbirds. I have a fasination for mechanics (and WWII WB), so I will easy sacrifice
performence for the beuty of mechanical part swinging i harmony :-) Yes, I fly helis too :-)

I`ll do some serious ground testing of this engine. Testing different props and fuel to optimize reliability and performence.
I wil post my results here when I have some data to show.
And if the engine prove to not be unusable in the FW-190, I shure would like to put in the nose of Gee Bee Y :-)

Thaks for listening in..

Beste regards..
Sandman

Right, I hate loose ends so to sum it up:

The FS400 is not powerfull enough for a SiSt FW-190.

I did a lot of tests on the engine and it will fly the plane with marginal power and that is not what I want. The 400 does however fly an aeroworks stearman very well. Have had a lot of fun with that plane!

I was just about to order one and I just saw your post saying that it's not powerful enough for your FW.  What is the weight of your FW?  I want'ed to put this on a Top Flite Giant Scale P47 ARF.  WIth out the engine the weight is around 24lbs, so I would like to make sure that this engine powerful enough in this aircraft.  Thanks for any feedback, and Merry Christmas.

Nice !

How close was it to have the engine totally enclosed in the cowl ? Looks like just few millimeters... just wondering it the engine was centered a bit lower if it would fit (?) Thanks for info. v.

Hey,

sorry for the late response. Off to the inlaws for a couple of days.

The SiSt Focke Wulf is full composite and will come in at about 15kg. The fs 400 is not strong enough for theat kind of weight. I am currently trying to save al LOT of weight on the bird and I hope to come in at 12kg. If that works out, I will give the 400 a shot.

Tom, I finally finished my replacement Concept Fleet. If you remember, I totaled it last April. This one came out a bit heavier than the original. It weighs 25 lbs. 6.5 oz. It's funny what a bit of tweaking on the low speed needle will do for keeping all the cylinders lit-up. It had, at no time, any tendency to drop a cylinder upon throttle advancement. The ASP ran great! Here's a short video of the maiden. My friend did the takeoff and triming and I took over for some circuits and the landing.

Brilliant plane! the 400 suites it very nicely!

Motivates me to redo my stearman to a more scale charakter...
