Thought I posted a reply, so I hope this is not a repeat. Thanks, I will use the twin batt. for my bench run in. But I would love to hear other ideas about what to use in the plane for flight. I am almost at the point of putting this motor in the plane, and need to figure it all out. The weight of the batteries is great as I need a BUTT load of nose weight, but do not want to change them all the time. Thanks again. The sound of yours is Great. Can't wait to hear it on my stand too. Jeff

Kmot,
I loved the Ayayayy... in your first movie. It pictured exactly the feeling I had when fist handstarting it.

PS
The prop seems small to me. If it were mine I would not run the engine at over 6000+ rpm. What does the manual say? I have none with my engine.

Thank you so much for the pictures, and videos. Just what we need to see

I was going to buy one of these ASP`s too, but then i found this video with the moki 250 gas radial in the Yak-11.
http://www.mnbigbirds.com/images/Video%20Clips/yak11.wmv

Ofcourse it cost about 4 times as much as the ASP, but im selling stuff to raise funds for it
Im hooked on the radial sound!

That Yak is incredible. Do you have any more info about it?

jeffEE: I just ordered an "F" sized NiMh rechargeable battery cell, it is 14000 mAh. I'll let you know how it goes.

I also built a battery booster today, using 5 "C" size 2000 mAh NiCd's I had. It is charging at 0.2A right now to stabilize and equalize the cells (been in storage a while).

Today I ran the radial engine again for its second time. I added 2 oz. of castor oil to my can of fuel which had about 110 oz left in it. So I don't know the ratio now but it is slightly less than the 10% nitro it had been.

It required a little more open throttle to start and keep running but start it did. I set it at 4000 rpm, then richened the needle 1 1/2 turns open. This caused the rpm to drop to approx. 3600 so I opened the throttle more and got the engine stabilized at 4000 rpm and left it there. Ran it like this for 15 minutes. When the tank was almost empty, I decided to shut the engine down and pulled the thottle completely to "shut off" but the engine did not shut off. It idled steady at 1800 rpm till the last sip of fuel was gone.

Ran the engine again today. Still on the Tower glo plugs. Leaned the needle 1/2 turn and started the engine. Set the rpm at 4150 for 10 minutes. Then I increased the rpm to 4500 and ran it there for another 20 minutes.

Peak rpm today, with the needle leaned, was 7400. According to Pe's prop-power program that is a 10% increase in power. And it idled steadily at 1600 rpm.

I calculated my fuel mix ratio and I am running approximately 8% nitro and 20% oil.

Oh, and I used the booster battery I built from NiCd cells. The "F" cell arrived, but it wasn't an "F" cell. They stuck something else, I have no idea what, in the box. Like a long AA or something.

The engine is 8.5" in diameter. I do not have an airplane for it.

Kmot, do you think the ASP has the same sound as the Saito 325 radial in these videos ?
Do you think the radial collector exhauts changes the saound ?

videos of the saito here:
http://www.terynd.com/saito325/saito325main.html

The audio quality in the saito videos might be a little better than in your videos, making it sound different.........
But since you have heard the ASP in real life, maybe you can do a better comparison.

Hers a Magnum/ASP exhaust ring:
http://www.keleo-creations.com/Radial/engines.html
Maybe it makes the engine sound different.?

Also, which planes have you been looking at for this engine ?

Do you think the great planes PT-17 stearman is too small ?
Or maybe this GeeBee Y would be better?

Small
