Status: offline 		the fun part here is to find the right balance between diameter and pitch, I wouldnt go under 12" d on a 91, the above set up was also used for racing, and I went thru a big variety of props to find one that worked well. Bare in mind too you need some accelleration as well as outright speed I dont know much bout the G90, I was running an OS91 ringed, bolly 12x12, with perry pump and tuned pipe on 15% nitro. Took many flights with stopwatch and changes to get to that setup asbeing the best for my set up. good luck cheers Johnno

Status: offline 		hello everyone i have a question i have a supertigre 90 ringed on a AKM SU-27 Flanker , and whant to know wich is the best configuration engine/prop to get the maximun speed on the plane , wich prop are the best to the engine, Apc 11x6,12x6,12x7,12x8 or 13x6 are the prop i am thinking but please helpme to know is the better to this prop jet plane

Status: offline 		jonathanmanopla; If you want that supertigre 90 to last use omega 5% or better yet wildcat with synthetic and castor a total of 18% lubricant and by all means on either or iether fuels %5 nitro or you'll be messing with too much advanced timing and it wont perform to it's fullest, also try a master airscrew s-2 or scimitar prop 13-8, don't take my word for it, only your tachometer will tell..Best wishes...greengoose.......

Status: offline 		All the ST90s in our club have responded *very* well to fuel consisting of 5% nitro, 12% Coopers Plus-C oil and 83% methanol.

This seems to really improve the otherwise rich mid-range and delivers gobbs of power.

On inspection after extended running on this brew, the engines are clean as a whistle inside with *no* measurable wear or damage whatsoever.

Going back to fuel with 18% oil messed up the mid-range again (regardless of retuning attempts).

Status: offline 		I have a New older ST 40...Round cylinder head..Made in Italy...just tried to run it in today....using 10% ..20% castor..Hooked
everything up and it fired right up...it would not..NOT ..respond to any throttle moves..it actually speeded up from full open when I tried to throttle down..tried multiple adjustments..it has high needle..low needle...small screw with spring and flat larger screw that was screwed all the way down,..
the last 2 screws were on the top of the carb close to throttle/venturi opening...It did not seem to respond to turning the high speed needle at all!!at one time it was running with the high needle completely closed...?? turned high and low completely off..opened up 2-3 turns..it starts right up..but cannot get it to idle and will not go from fast to slow/idle without goosing it back and forth....took high needle assembly out..cleaned..blew through....no trash anywhere...re assemble..start up..no change in response...I am reading all kind of things about good and horrible ST carb...is this something common...can't believe it starts so easily but will not function for my RC...if I wired it open...would make a good U-control engine..yeah right...Anyone have a clue as to what is happening here...Thanks in advance...

had several folks at the field try to adjust....nothing positive happened from their attempts...hope I have supplied enough info for the problem..if not please advise....thx again...joe

Status: offline 		I'll toss my $.02 in... but I don't think I'll be able to add any more than the guys at the field have already done... I'll assume that the back cover gasket (along with the other gaskets) is still in good shape.

Of course, the first thing that I think about is an air leak. The three areas that I would check would be the carb neck O-ring (is it old and cracked??), then the carb barrell itself - it is a snug fit inside the body and does it rotate freely? The third thing would be air leaking by the front bearing, but that's really stretching...

Can you stop the engine by putting your finger over the intake? As a last resort, you cold also get an after-market carb for the engine, like a perry.

As I said, just my $.02

Status: offline 		Yes....if I put my finger over the venturi while running..it will die if I hold it there...also....If I pinch the furl line...it will speed the engine up....

Found a Google hit on St carb adjustment....using a piece of fuel line and combo of blowing into fuel inlet and turning the needles..seemed kinda involved for adjusting the carb....anyone ever try to use this way..here is the link to it http://www.lymanslack.com/Articles&Archives/st.htm

my thinking is that these carbs cannot be this complicated to keep someone from enjoying their hobby....Is this a fluke or are the ST carbs just crap??

That way of adjusting the ST carb does work and if look back through this thread
you will probably find references to it. I've done and it's not as complicated
as it sounds and it does work.

Heres the Italian way to tune a ST carby, don't believe all you read they are not crap, I won't even try to guess what your problem is (too many possiblities) but something is very wrong and it may not be the carby at all.

It takes less time to do then explain. UNQUOTE

I can't believe that since ST were bought out by the US that they have rewritten the rule book (poorly IMHO) which served ST so well for so long.

I love my Tigres and have no trouble at all with them.

Status: offline 		Nothing was changed. You can set current-production SuperTigre engines the same way as you set old ones. Here's what we always do:

To properly set up your carburetor, there are a few steps...

Make sure the spraybar is set so that the fuel slot is pointed straight down the center of the carburetor. You will have to look through the carb from the bottom, with the venturi opened to full. Loosen the two screws next to the high-speed needle valve to rotate the spraybar so that the slot is centered.

The idle needle can be seen in the slot of the spraybar. It looks like a piece of wire that has the end squarely cutoff. It should be less than one-half way across the slot when the venturi is opened to full.

The high-speed needle should be opened about 2-1/2 to 3 turns out from closed.

All of these settings are very rich. You'll have to start the engine at about 1/4 to1/3 throttle. Once the engine starts, advance the throttle to full. You can then lean the high-speed needle until the engine is running just rich of peak RPM.

Once you have the high-speed needle set, you can retard the throttle a bit and use the idle needle to adjust the engine. Retard a bit, and adjust. Keep doing this until you have reached the desired idle RPM and mixture. Remember, since we started out with an intentionally-rich setting, the idle mixture will have to be leaned.

Finally, the midrange can be adjusted by rotating the spraybar a hair. Just loosen the two screws next to the high-speed needle and rotate the spraybar just a tiny bit. Either direction is OK. This will help you get a good transition and midrange.

I need reliability not excuses !
I've tried the Super Tigre Way Many Times and the air flow at least three ways... I have 4 Super Tigre Carbs so will set Two the ST Way and Two the air flow way It that don't work then it's new carbs. I've got three airplanes setting here waiting and one more on the drawing board and a desire to fly !

Here is what I have and have owned for the past 8 to 10 years in Super Tigres .. 2ea. ST S. .91's and a ST S. 2000 -1.2
Don't ask what plug or fuel as I have tried the recommend as per the Instruction Manuals and from the internet forums such as this..

It's been get em out and play patti cake with em and get discusted with the midrange problems and the dead sticks darned hard to land at WOT donchakno. Am 72 years old but am about to run out of patience am going to try to give em one more try.. then its the deep six out back in the pond.

Since 1948 Anybody remember the Citizenship Flashlight ? Or the RC Single Channel RC outfit in Mechanix Ill. Magizine for $ 2.98 I can cause I bought one, go ahead laugh cause when it came in the mail I did.

I've been in Control Line, Free Flight, Single Channel RC, Reed RC, and Proportional and Now contimplating going 2.4 Gig Radios guess I've been spoiled lately ! Have owned OK Cubs, Olson Rice, McCoy, Spitfire, K&B's Saito's OS's, Zenoghs and etc. Flash from the Past: A Kraft .61 took almost 4 gals of K&B to break in but last a life time..

That brings us back to Super Tigres........ The three I have now are just broken in and not damaged in anyway.... been in the air but never with a power on landing.

I have had older ST's in the past as in or around the late 50's early 60's and they were powerhouse, barn burners as I remember.. Now as I set here and comtemplate the three S models that I own now I find that I must make a decision or at least three of several :
1. buy 3 new supertigre Carbs then I would have 3 more of what I have now... not to smart me thinks !
Cause I already bought one of the new style ones from tower and it does the sam ting !
2. buy 3 Perry Carbs in my opion that is not an option..!
3. buy 3 Asp 1.08 carbs would if I could find em... !!
4. buy 3 Magnum carbs.... obtainable from a hobby shop about 75 miles from here...??
5. Try to tune em up again as per Bax's suggestion " ONE MORE TIME BAX "

I know how a Super Tigre can run but just can not seem to get these three ZERO'ED IN !
So if that doesn't work I'll go for the Magnum carbs as in #4 above.. then it's up for parts !!

Sorry BAX but these carbs are not as user friendly as they could be an I got a bran new GP Super Chipmunk sittin here waiting for the ST 2000 or ? !
