Thanks for starting the ST thread. Maybe all the collective knowledge about Super Tiger engines can be applied to this forum for ease of use!

ST Guru's... I have a 15 year old NIB ST3000 with a Slimline Pitts, that I intend to use on a GP Christen Eagle. I already understand that the original carb intake diameter is too large for good fuel draw. I see that the OS7D carb has been discontinued on Towerhobbies, and the Magnum XL-108/120 carb is out of stock at Hobby People. Is there an alternate OS carb that will work or is there an online source for ASP parts that anyone can recommend?

Also, for a draggy airframe such as the Christen Eagle, which prop would you suggest for the ST 3000?

For only a few weeks ago I helped a friend break- in his new S3000K with a pitts muffler. It ran reliable right out of the box and the midrange is also good.

The carburetor on his engine was small and looked identical to the carb. on my S90K, 9mm bore and flat machined spraybar.
After the break in on high oil fuel we ran the recommended supertiger low oil fuel for this engine which is 10% oil "castor or castor/synthetic" and 10% nitro and it runs even better.

Is the "K" model newer? If so, does it already have the smaller carb? If is a better carb, I wonder if it can be purchased to replace the existing carb on mine. I know mine goes back to about 1990, when my father started working on a large scale Spitfire that was never completed.

You know, if you look around the manufacturer forum plus on here I believe you will find that there aren't that many people complaining about the 3000. Would mount the engine on a test stand if you are hesitant and break it in and see how it runs! Don't accept as Gospel everything you read on here as alot of replies are from less than technical people and those who don't even own or fly the particular item you seek help on. Give it a try and let us know! I think the people who have replied so far know what they are talkiing about but there are those who will attack the ST carb every chance they get!

I was reading Flyer95 s post about running low oil in the old Super Tiger 3000. I have heard others talking about this low oil use and have even seen the fuel being sold. The new Tigers recomend 18-20% oil and 0-15% nitro. Why do the old Tigers run on lower oil content and the new Tigers use higher oil content??

Buzz First the big Tigres are not turning 12,000 RPM and don't like nitro. Second I don't see any real support from Super Tigre pushing Big Tigre fuel. Third is you hear conflicting accounts on what size the big tigres start at for the special fuel. Some start at S-2000 and some at S3250 and the 2300 is not covered and has a larger carb. Here is a link to ST 3000 and 3250 fuel and breakin recommendation. Like I said Super Tigre doesn't really support BIG TIGRE FUEL

If the carburetor bore measures about 9mm then it is a good and reliable size for this engine.

Supertiger used to recommend 10-12% castor oil but only for giant scale engines which are S2500, S3000, G3250, G4500. The G2300 is not one of them and requires 18% oil.

Yes I am aware that today the 2300 and all other needs 18-20% oil but am just curious as to why the old large Super Tigers would use lower oil content.

The new giant scale Supertigers can also be run on 10-12% oil if atleast 1/2 of it is castor oil.
These engines have very high compression and would detonate badly if higher oil content is used. I have added 3 head gaskets to my G3250 with a quiet pipe so now I can use the same fuel that I use in my other smaller engines with 20% oil. It turns a APC 22x8@7300rpm and smoke system is not needed

I run my 2300 on 15%nitro and 18%oil content and it does well.

According to the Super Tigre web site I posted earlier listed 3250 and up for low oil 10-12%. That ony leaves 3 big tigre engines. 3250,4500,6000...........Not 2000 not 2300 not 2500 and not 3000

The 3250 directly replaced the 3000. My manual for the 3000 says to use 10-12% oil after break-in.

Well WARHWK It looks like Super Tigre changed their minds on the 3000 for big tigre fuel. I've gone to alot of engine web sites and I gotta say ST's is getting better. I look forward to a engine time line inserted in the future. I do have a s2500 and s3000 and they both get 5% nitro and 19% oil (blend) I had no carb issues. The S3000 did make carb changes in production run. I pulled out the venturi sleeve. Funny I have a G500 ST 40 engine that runs the same carb as the S3000 That some claim is way to large for the big Tigres. Super Tigre makes it clear that if your spraybar is centered in venturi and you experience rich mid range Your Low speed needle is still to rich period and as a result your High speed needle is a tad lean to compensate. Period

Prop Drive Washers on Super Tigers are pressed on. That is different form some other manufacturers what are the pros and cons of this. It looks tome that I will need a pullet to get the crank out but I haven't had to do this as of yet. How do you get the crank out of a Super Tiger with this drive washer??
