Good morning, and Merry Christmas to all.....
Today, setting up my current models to receive the Spektrum DX 7, I thought I'd check everything on the 5955's installed and working very well on the current setups. Of course, I am NOT 'resetting', as that would mess up a lot of stuff, but the programmer does permit checking and resetting only the "deadband" value, without messing with anything else. I verified this bench testing before doing the ones installed on the birds.

Anyway - I reset the deadbands to "1", to make centers as tight as possible (see HUGE threads on **** and here about this concern), and they recalibrated just fine.

Then, I decided to auto test the small movements. You can do this with the programmer in "Auto Test" mode, by using the D/R button, and adjusting the total amount of deflection that will occur using the potentiometer knob. It defaults to neutral, so you can watch on the screen the mseconds of travel you're setting up.

Interestingly all of my servos with deadband at "1" will only actually start moving when there is "4" dialed. That means TWO mseconds either side of neutral, I think. At "2" on deadband, it takes 6 before observable movement around center occurs.

To me, this confirms that the 5955TG has VERY tight centering, and that the deadband setting does, in fact, alter the "sensitivity" around the neutral center. It was good testing to do, and observe, and adds to the knowledge base a bit.

Just sharing here to see if my tests confirm how they are SUPPOSED to be working. Thanks, and again, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Maybe. Just like quantitative tests and objective data. Do you think my findings are what you would expect of those figures?

To be honest I haven’t played with the Auto-Test sequence of late or specifically as you note. Allow me dust the cobwebs off the Programmer and report back ASAP.

Michael - have you ever had an opportunity to evaluate the numbers from the programmer, and whether they are microseconds or no?

Bob,

No I never got around to this... I'll make a note to go there soon. Rattle my cage if I don't report back.

Here you go Bobert, looks like your assumptions were pretty accurate to me.

Well I got more involved with the test run than I wanted, go figure... I tested a 5955, 5945 and a 6985 Hitec digital as well as a 3050, 9152, 9153, 8411 and my 8611 test mule is broken. Here’s what I did; all tests were performed without any loads, I dithered the servos drive pulse until such time the feedback loop reported actual movement.

Servos with a "1" dB setting were active at 2us, "2" revealed a much wider dB spacing 6us was realized.

Futaba 3050=4us, 9152=4us, 9351=4us

JR 8411=1-2us

So yeap, the HFP-10 Programmers dead-band function really works...

Thanks, Michael. Next test question .... are the 'msec' set by the pot *TOTAL*, or *each side* ? (My test makes me think you are adjusting TOTAL, particularly when watching the very small movements on self test, then checking similarly in Manual test)

Good info to have confirmed.
Thanks again.

Dead-band has nothing to do with center, the potentiometer diretcly it is a total value. The way I see it dead-band is the time span that the servo pulse has to change to start the servo motor to move, also known as the space the neutral zone takes up. So dead-band isn't really the time of response, rather it's a measure of the precision of that response.
