Well, sorry for the ungodly delay on updates, the canopies are done, and look nice, I will post some pictures tomorrow of the one I mounted on mine.. It was a nightmare but it finally came through. I have 2 or 3 (need to check) that I will sell for $25 plus $8 shipping if you are interested. I might have a 1 or 2 messed up ones that will work for canopy frames that I can sell for $10. This dang canopy ended up costing me $130!!.. oh well...

Brentp76@aol.com if you want one.

I have been to Middlesboro KY several times to see the Glacier Girl from the time they started putting it back together to the time it was completed and flown.

It is very true they spent more money restoring it than it's worth but I think there is only like 12 or 13 in flying condition and this is no doubt the best one. No two pieces were left together and about 80% is origional.

The nose art was painted by Robert Conely who is the art teacher at the same school where my wife teaches 2nd grade (Washington County Elementry)

This plane sits in a hanger and museum at the Middlesboro airport, it's free admission. If you ever get a chance to stop by and see it you should do it, it's like seeing a ghost or something.

Substantilly less than that actually, depending on your definition of "flying condition". I can think of four being regularly flown with another one nearly ready to fly and a couple more that are flyable but not flown.

GG has been sold and now resides in San Antonio, TX with new owner Rod Lewis.

The P-38 is looking great ! I guess the plans were much better than the AJ P-40C I tried to build many years ago. He had drawn some kind of weird reflex airfoil on the P-40 plans and after I built the wing I decided it looked ridiculous and trashed the project, sure wasted alot of time and balsa on that abortion.

I ran into the Colonel at a Rally of the Eagles and told him the story of my project and how I trashed it and he just kind of chuckled and said "it flys great inverted". Considering some of the absolutely beautiful planes he's designed and built I have no idea how that one slipped by. It really was a waste.

Looks like your P-38 is getting close to the test flight. Keep us posted.

Rick
