This is my first nitro car, I got the kit(actually was on my xmas list, gift from wife and parents) since I enjoy assembling as much as running the cars themselves. I am not new to nitro as I am also into R/C flying as well. I plan on a lot of mods and I am sure to get a lot of help. Enjoy the build and all opinions are appreciated.

Hey tex, I think the HPI MT forum will be a better place.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_250/tt.htm

But kind of late now.

Props! Make sure you use the heat cycle method to break it in.

No it is the HPI, just not as specific as the HPI MT which is basically the savage forum. This is just as good though. Have fun with it.

Ya I gotta use that method again tomorrow for my tnx if it stops raining. It's a bit cold out so I'm wrapping the engine head in tin foil to make sure is gets to full temp as quickly as possible.

Ya, the rain kinda sucks huh? From what I've read, I'll heat the motor with my heat gun to get it started. I plan to get a rotostart tomorrow and ditch the pull starter.

Let me know how that TNX works out, how did they know what to get you for the motor?

Yup. I'm using a hairdryer on high since I have no heatgun though. DOn't you think It would be a pain in the butt heating it for all 8+ runs of the heat cycle? THat's why I'm using tin foil around the head and only heating it on the first one or two runs. Have you foundy any good literature on heat cycling? If not I could fing you a good write up on it.

The tnx is always good with the right fuel and break in. I wish I had some 30% nitro on me to see how much better is is than the old engine broken in on 20%.

Ha ha ya they know that when I show them something it's a very specific part so I just link them my list off tower hobbies and bribe with the coupons and hope I get lucky

The is a break in manual with this kit, but it does not talk about heat cycling. basically it tells you to run two tanks never going to full throttle and never keeping a constant throttle. It does give temp guidelines though...

Ya DO NOT go by the manual. That's the oldschool break in procedure.

Here's a vague write up on heat cycling. http://www.johnnycoolguy.com/JCGR/main/tech_break-in.html

The old break in puts too much stress the engine and heat cycling gets a better fitting piston/sleeve for lasting, strong compression.
