had a little time over the weekend (okay house was full of people and i was hiding in the shed)

anyways i started a new tuber build-up. deffinately going to be a shafty. not sure if i'm gonna use tlt axles or custom make some maxx style axles. not there yet anyways. i did get a good jump on the frame though.

drew up a little plan so i had a place to start:

made some pattern boards for the more difficult bends:

made a some bends:

cut off the overlap areas:

ended up with some fairly uniform peices (little off but not enough to bother):

off to the shed for some brazing:

since the tranny will hang out the bottom a little i bent up a belly plate for protection. not sure how i'm gonna mount it yet because i want to be able to access the tranny bolts, may drill holes to get at the bolts or make it so it will come off altogether:

post up some more as i get it done....

Great start! I think you should go for the maxx hybrid axles.... The added diff clearance is a plus and they look awesome!

pratty350z,
thanx

Acs_guitars ,
i think the maxx hybrids are what i am going for. i've been over at rcc picking the brains of the masters (love the search button). i've seen probably a half a dozen different well thought designs but i think i have narrowed to two

TWISTEDTOYS design (pic is from someone elses thread. twisted's has no pics);

TWINSET's design (looks nice but much harder to acheive i think);

did get the chassis all brazed together yesterday, however the batteries were dead in my camera so i haven't got pics yet. should be able to get a few this evening.

Nice work! That is a cool design, and that belly pan is a great idea.

Keep up with the pics!

That set is my favorite of all that I have seen on RCC... I plan on making a set myself once I have built up the TLT. I'm starting with a semi-scaler before going to a super.

i took a shot at brazing up the axles. mapp gas won't get the washer hot enough at full thickness, might be low on gas. i know i'm out of oxy though for my other set-up. i'll pick up another tank this weekend and that should fix it.

busted my bandsaw blade too so i need a new one of them also. been cutting by hand

sorry worked late no pics.

had to run down to the shed this mornin', so i snapped a few pics while i was down there.

after finishing the frame and sticking the tranny in i was able to cut the belly pan down some to help lower the chassis height;

got the hieght just barely over 5";

i almost messed up. i can just barely get the tranny in there. plenty of room in the chassis, but getting the tranny in there is very tight. i still may have to cut and redo the rear loop that goes over the shaft to get a little extra space

i wasn't able to get much done this weekend but i did manage to get the tranny and GD600 figured out.

i am using a t-maxx tranny that has been converted back to the original SPORTMAXX gearing. this made it a single speed tranny without modifying or screwing the gears together inside.

input shaft: 19 tooth
center shaft: 41/28 tooth
bottom shaft: 26 tooth FOC gear

could someone explain how to get the ratio of this tranny. i divided 41 by 19 came up with 2.15. i divided 28 by 26 and came up with 1.07. do i add these (2.15 + 1.07 = 3.22) or do i multiply them (2.15 x 1.07 = 2.3005)? not sure which is right. i can figure the rest of the ratio after that i just can't seem to figure out the tranny itself. as soon as i figure that out i can pick out my spur/pinion setup.

anyhow here's some pics of the GD600 mounting:

here's some pics of it all stuffed in the chassis:

Just multiply the two. Your result of 2.3 is correct.

axles are made....

i got upset with the washer idea. they are very thick and i was having a hard time brazing them. just couldn't get them hot enough to accept a good braze. well i can but with the small oxy/mapp set-up i was using ALOT of oxy trying to get it to work.

next idea i went too Tractor Supply and picked up a peice of sheet metal (16 guage/ about 1/16" thick) cut some plates and used these instead. more work than just using the washer but i like it better in the long run

just need to clean them up some that's all

couple of shots of the project as it stands right now:

Looking good. What did you use to secure the shocks to the tie rods?
