Status: offline 		I am working on my engine installation, 3w56b2, and had a few questions.

Did anyone baffle their engines? Since this is twin it is fully enclosed in the cowl.

How did you vent your cowling?

What about all the holes leading back into the fuselage? Did you block them? Any problems with them being open?

I plan on putting louver vents in my cowl. I found a house vent at Lowes made of light weight aluminum. I have extracted 80 - 1 inch by 3 inch aluminum louver vents. Just need to paint them black and install in the cowl.

Status: offline 		I did not use any baffles with my Evolution 58. I ended up flying without the scoop and opened the bottom of the cowl all the way back from the scoop opening to the first former for air exit. I have had no cooling issues.

I did block off all of the holes in the first former leading into the fuse. Running a 24x10 or 24x8 @ 6400 rpm - I was just afraid that it would act like a balloon and blow the covering off from the inside out (I have seen that happen on other planes).

How are the carbon wing tubes holding up. I have bought the carbon tubes and MonoKote Trim. I wasn't very
satisfied with it so I left the stock tubes and maybe will try the new tubes later on. Just got her finished.
Need to run the motor and fly. Mines is at 20lbs with the stock tubes.. dual batteries, a choke servo and
heavy Futaba S5050 on rudder.

Status: offline 		They seem to be holding up just fine .... however .... I haven't been able to fly mine in a while. We have had a bit of rain here in Texas and our field is currently about 4 feet under water

Status: offline 		I have used the CF tubes/Monokote since the spring--many, many flights. Holding up great, and you save 1/2 pound!
I used the scoop with my DA-50, and only a small cutout for the exhaust; no cooling issues, although I don't do much hovering, mostly IMAC sequences.
The plane is not suited for IMAC, IMO, so I'm gutting it and putting the DA-50 in an AirWild 29% Extra.
Am trying to sell the Pitts 12 with servos, and if it doesn't sell, will put my old MVVS 58cc (pre-Evolution model) in it. It was just too heavy for the DA-50--limited vertical.
But a fun sport airplane...

Status: offline 		I went with the Evolution 58. I had Al Young at Jtec modify one of his big volume pitts mufflers to fit under the firewall.
Should be interesting to see what kind of power I get with this muffler. So if it verticals, loops, spins and knife edges that
is good enough for this bird I'll post pic's soon of my engine setup..

I'm getting ready to start a Extreme flight 88inch Yak project with a DA-50 on ES composite pipe, should be a much
lighter setup for 3D..

Hey guys.

Squeezed in my first flight in this evening before the rains. The plane is going to be fun. Its great on the 58 with lots of authority..
Even with the extra weight it was very forgiving.. The CG was set at 6.5 inchs and it was to conservative for
me.. Going to move it back some.. Some pull to the gear in knife edge but easy to mix out. My flying buddy post before I did
on another thread...

I have not timed myself but if I was in a hurry I say 15 minutes to setup. I do not use the flying wires
on the wings only on the tail they are required and always attached. I do not fly a DA 50 but a Evolution 58.
The 58 has unlimited vertical. The black stripes on the wings need to be secured where the covering comes
to a point. Maybe some nail polish may help. Sport type flying on a DA 50 should be just fine. Its a heavy
plane for 3D and is a typical bibe with coupling to belly and yaw in slow knife edge flight. But its predictable
in forward stall, spins and forgiving on landings.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the reply. I have an Evolution 58 but it is on a OMP Hybrid. Quite a bit of work to put the spare DA 50 on the Hybrid. Guess I will have to do some more thinking before I make a decision.

Status: offline 		It seems as if the black trim is a low heat film and I have been told to use low heat to get out any wrinkles. Has anybody experienced severe wrinkles with the black from the heat?

Status: offline 		Yes, but I can get them out with my Iron.. The trouble I have had is with the black trim tape that outlines the silver on
the wings and the black covering on the leading edge where it comes to a point. I use some black Monokote trim tape to
fix some of those issues.

Hello!

How would you describe it's not suited for IMAC? Do you mean it's too "wobbly", not tracking straight in the air? I have KMP Pitts 12 (a slightly smaller than Python) and altough the power with Saito 180 is adequate It slightly wobbly in aerobatics. I have couple of Ultimate's Goldberg and another of the same size, and there's the same tendency. Is it just that biplanes are not as stable as monoplanes? It's a shame, since I just love biplanes...
