I'm defiantly going to use carbon wing tubs to help save some weight and do anything else I can to help save some weight.

Mine went out for delivery on the truck at 4:01am this morning. My wife will be accepting it here , as I am out ot the office this morn. She will photograph the condition as it comes off the truck.....I am worried after seeing the pictures posted here.

Weight , weight ,weight,.

get rid of the pitts...gain power lose weight..5-6ozs of it. Stocker is better, so what if you gotta cut a hole in the cowl.

Wood prop...lighter.

CF spinner lighter.

Li-po 2100 2cells rx Li-p0o 1320 ign....much lighter...your Fromecos will be 9.9oz alone.
You save 5 or more oz on the Li-po.

That and the CF tubes and light wheels KAvan Chrome not grey. you have lost a pound or more.

Make that Showtime removable...it has the hardware for it. 12oz removeable.

Mine will be at or under 17lbs. It can be done.

I know having the smoke come out the little cowl hole that the pitts sticks out is cool, but 5oz is 5oz. And the Stocker is better power.

The Li-pos are great...I make little foam carriers for them and strain relief the cords and use deans plugs.

I wish I didn;t play hooky yesterday.....so I could wait for mine.....

Guys.. This is a 50cc bipe with two wings. They are going to be heavier than a 50cc monoplane but, they make up for that in wing area. I would not
be to concerned with weight unless you want a 3D monster..

I agree some are going to go way overboard to get weight out of this bird.It has plenty of wing area for 18lbs.There is a flight report on **** site and at 18lbs 2 ozs it flew great.They said the DA50 had plenty of power at that weight to 3D well.Also they were flying it in a 22 knot wind!

I take that report with some optimism unless I see video. I don't think the DA-50 on a pitts muffler has
the greatest pull out from hover with a 18lb plane. If will fly it with authority with plenty of vertical. But
from a vertical standstill to rocketing skyward, which is what you need to get out of 3D trouble, I have
to see it..

I, myself, am still learning (or trying) 3D ... so all of my 3D attempts are pretty high up

What do you consider enough power/thrust to be a true 3D plane? 2:1 thrust to weight ratio? 3:1? I think it would be hard for any 50-60cc engine to produce 36+ lbs of thrust. I haven't checked my Evolution 58GX .. .but I can't imagine it putting out that much. I know I have heard rumors of the 58GX putting out 45+ ... but I would have to assume that was on a pipe. I have always considered a plane to have unlimited vertical if I could fly it straight and level at 1/4 throttle ... pull it vertical and go to full throttle .. and it take it out of sight if I allowed. As far as pulling out of a hover ... or rocketing out of a hover .. .I guess I have to learn to hover first

Also remember Mike Elder is a top freestyle flyer. If he didnt think it would to what was in his report then he wouldnt post it I can assure you. The plane will do what you want. If you have it set it up and go fly.

Mine arrived this afternoon, I will be unboxxing it after dinner, very little box damage..1 tear on outer..but looks like it didn;t go through the second...

I won;t even consider a Pitts on a DA-50. Unless I felt the model didn't need full performance. ....when that would be...I don' know.

That is why I was asking. As I said, I am not a big 3D flyer ... cause I'm not that good

Hey, I'm happy with a good knife edge, hammer head, snap roll, blender and flat spin. The closest I come to a hover is setting up for a tail slide. But I was curious what people considered a minimum requirement for thrust to weight ratio for 3D. I would think that it would be good to get a 18-20 pound plane to pull out of a hover with a 50-60cc engine. But apparently some want it to "rocket" out of a hover.

It's a preference, I say anything more than 1:1 where it can hold a hover and can rise
vertically with some authority.. Not necessarily a rocket.. You want to have confidence
in the plane pulling out of a stalled attitude without relying on gravity to get her flying.

Before I pay 700.00 to 800.00 on a engine setup I want to make sure it is the right one
to put in this plane so for now I'm on the fence with no rush.. In the end it may be another
DA-50. Lets see some build's and video's

Edgeman we gotta compare numbers and props. Same setup. I was thinking of making an extension for the output of the stock muffler to reroute it out the hole on bottom.....

It looks like there is enough room to do it.

John, thanks man. This is one hell of an airplane.

I have a question, hole for the DA carb throat? Yes, no? Can the firewall handle it? Maybe an extra piece of that good plywood you re-inforced the box with to beef it, if you cut the hole??

I am going 1 inch away , but I think that hole makes a difference.

This thing is just too freaking cool...

Since my Evolution 58GX is currently in a plane that weighs 18.5 pounds ... I can tell you it will pull out of an aborted tail slide with authority

I'll have to wait to get better at hovering to answer that one

I do have a Christen Eagle electric foamie that comes with a geared 370 ... that I replaced with a brushless 450 outrunner ... and I KNOW that has about a 3:1 t/w ratio. As a matter of fact .. it is hard to NOT do a torque roll

Back to the Python .... if everything goes good, I am hoping to start stripping the Oracle Challenger this weekend and putting stuff in the Python early next week
