The Monokote tape is a good idea but I am not much into jury rigging my CF tubes. There are some metric size tubes offered by PBG composites.

http://www.pbgcomposites.com/

They have a 24 mm and 25 mm tube size. I just need an accurate outside dimension on the current tube.

I guess I am going to have to get a new steel rule. My initial measurement was off by .025"

My dial calipers show it to be 0.90" ... or 22.86mm

So where does that leave us? We can add 0.025" of trim tape to the 7/8" tubes from TBM .... or run the stock aluminum tubes ... or ???

How about an opinion from your structural engineers? Can we drill the aluminum tube enough to lighten it significantly? I know we would need to stay away from the load bearing areas ... but would that give us enough savings to be worthwhile?

tube diameter.

Very strange.

22.89 mm

or

.904 in

Yikes. Where the heck do they get this stuff??

Sorry, didnt see the other post.

No way would I drill the tube. I have no problem tape shimming if that is all we can get. I have done it before on other birds.....You just watch for wear on the tube and check it's fit everytime you assemble.

As long as the tube has no wiggle room , it will be cool. If it moves back and forth or rattles a bit...then the tape will wear faster.

No way would I drill the aluminum tubes! Imagine doing a blender with drilled-out tubes...
I'm going to go with the Monokote shim idea; like you say, check it at each field set up and monitor for excessive play, and should work fine.

Bosshossv8,

It sounds like the tube might be a 23mm tube. That indeed would be an unusual size. I have searched the web and can't find a tube in that dimension. I was kind of hoping your caliper was off and it was a 24mm tube.

LOL. Sorry, I do not know what crazy dimension it is SUPPOSED to be, but it is odd for sure.

I had to hang my Python unfinished a few hours ago, I am doing an engine review, and had to get the test plane on the war table.

But, my Python has a lot done to it, the hard stuff, at least. I have not tried to put the cabanes on her, so she is tied up pretty close to the ceiling ...

I will have her done by Mid March.

Hello,

A quick note. We noticed after 25 flights, the hatch tabs needed some CA. Please run a dab of glue on each to prevent this.

Thanks

THanks for the heads up , John. A little epoxy and microballoons can reinforce them from the start.

On other Bipes I have had, the little strut connector tabs usuually crack at the bend....John, can you inspect those closely for us?? Sometimes the chroming process hardens them, then they become brittle.

How did you mount the servos in the top wing?, do the arms point outward or inward?, because the hard points for the servo horns are on the outside on my airplane and that interferes with the cabane mounts (the aluminun mounts for the wires). can you post pics? Thank you.

One thing you should know the arms on the top wing are 1 inch and the bottoms are 1.25. The reason is the top ailerons are bigger and don't need as much arm to keep up with the bottom. I found that out by accident. Long story short, if you have any questions on the radio install or the set up don't hesitate to ask. John and i are still trying to put a video together but the weather hasn't be that great the last couple of weekends. We'll see about this weekend. Rob

Hello,
We have five flights on my python so far John has flown it once and myself. Mike Elder flew it the rest of the flights and he put it threw some pretty intence flying. I
