I've decided to build a Mini Telemaster with ailerons, so that it will just look like a smaller version of the Senior Telemaster. I have a couple of weeks off during the Christmas break and thought it would be a good project. I will be posting my progress. Any suggestions would be helpful.
This is my design so far:
* Keep the fuselage and tailplane the same as the plans.
* Building the wing flat
* Not sure of the size of the ailerons yet

I was recommend to build the wing flat because it will have enough stability as it is, but then why does the Senior Telemaster have diherdal?
Also, why does the Senior Telemaster have a flat-bottom airfoil for the hori-stab and the Mini Telemaster doesnt?

The first couple of photos is my workshop.

This is what i have done today so far:
* Made two wing struts out of ply (3rd photo...well should be)
* Made the upper and lower spars with doublers in the middle, tapered either side to reduce a stress rasier (4th photo)
* Made the firewall/engine mount which will have an E-Flite 450 brushless screwed to it (5th photo)

Continued building today. Went to addies and got some well needed balsawood and 2 rolls of yellow covering, so it will look like the senior telemaster.

I built the rudder and elevators out of 4mm balsa sheeting and joined the two elevators halves with some 4mm x 3mm ply. Completed the two ailerons and angled the outboard side so that it matches up with the wing tip. I decided to make the ailerons 0.20C deep and 50% half wing span wide. Started building the fuse out of 6mm x 3mm balsa.
My aim is to finish the plane and test fly it by the end of my holidays ( 9/1/2007 )

The last couple of days i have done a fair bit. I have finished the wing; completely covered, along with the hori-stab, elevator, fin and rudder. I have completed both sides of the fuse and am about to join them together.
Tonight i attached the ailerons to the wing and rigged them. I decided on 25 degrees aileron up and 12.5 degrees aileron down.
Im going to cover the whole plane in yellow to make it look like the senior telemaster... thats yellow covering in the pic, not green.

I'm importing Telemasters into the UK and cannot get Hobby Lobby to supply me with four-channel Mini Telemasters, though the four-channel wing is availble as an extra for the ARTF version.

I plan to offer builders a four channel wing plan pack so would value your experience.

The plane was finished a while ago and is still around. Here's a movie on youtube:

It flies really well. Aileron differential is a must due to adverse yaw. I use 50% on the down-going aileron and 100% on the up-going aileron.
As you can see from the pictures, the ailerons were not that hard to build. Just modify 4 of the outboard ribs by cutting them a bit shorter and adding an aft spar. The ailerons are soild balsa. The servo is placed on the 3rd outboard rib and all ribs inboard have to have holes in them to allow for the servo leads.
Each aileron is 25% wingspan and 20% chord. They could be made wider if you want a faster roll rate but a Telemaster wasn't really designed as an aerobatic plane. I would keep the depth as 20% chord From memory, the barrel rolls in the video are done at full throttle straight and level with full aileron deflection (but with a Slo-Flyer prop).
I have not been able to spin mine. The ailerons are effective in stalls and if you keep it in a stall and use aileron, it will just wonder a bit.

I lived in Carlton for some time in the Seventies, worked in Buckley and Nunn's department store before moving on to work in the bush with the ANR. Came back home for a beautiful Irish girl. Should have stayed in Oz!

Made redundant in March 2007.At the age of 59 road my 955cc Triumph to Galipolli for Anzac Day. Am still in contact with two Australiand I met there, a gardener from Sidney and a journalist from Queensland who has recently moved to Kalgoorlie.

Ah well, enough remeniscing, back to building the Senior Telemaster fuselage.
