This great little truck has been around for more than enough time for a bunch of you guys to own at least one, so let's see 'em!! Post pics, list of mods, etc. We need a good Nitro Stampede thread to go to for tips, do-it-yourself mods as well as mods performed with factory parts. I own two electric Stampedes, one with a 17t motor and one brushless and will be picking up a Nitro Stampede just as soon as my LHS can get one in stock. Already have a TRX 2.5 sitting on the workbench ready to be installed just as soon as I bring the new pede home.

Bring on the nitro pedes!!

Hello,
I was over at friend of a friends house yesterday,and he was telling me about an R/C truck he had,and didnt know that Im into everything R/C,so it started a lenthy conversation between us,and he eventualy decided to pull his truck from the attic...
I instantly reconised it as a Traxxas Nitro Stampede... His original attempt was getting me to fix it up for him,but then latter on in the night he just decided to give me the truck... I got it home and examined it a little better and realized it has an onboard starter,but he didnt have his start pack to give me,also minus the radio... To make a long story short,I have seen the trucks for years now,however they never really caught my intrest for 2 main reasons... One they seem to be very unstable at higher speeds,and two,Im personaly a HPI and Losi guy,as I have owned mutiple Savages and XXXNT's... However Id liike to have a good back yard basher and Ive decided to give this little truck a chance,and Ive read on mutiple sites now about a widening conversion on E-Stampedes...This strikes my intrest but I cannot seem to find what parts to use,and few details on the entire process... Any info and pics showing this mod would be very much appreciated.... Hope to get this together soon so I can have a truck to post a picture of!

Man I thought more people would be into the nitro Stampede.... I guess with all the Brushless options out there now,everyone has converted to electrics... Well,anyhow I decided to show a few pics of other peoples rides... Mine is still bone stock,so Im not going to take any pics of it til its complete... But the first pic is of someones ride with a Parma 69 Ford body and a wide conversion...

It was unseasonably warm today with temps in the mids 60s, so I took advantage of the warm temps to break in the new Pro .15. After 4 tanks I started tuning for performance. Well, one thing is for sure, the Pro .15 is definately no TRX 2.5! The Pro .15 may or may not perk up once I get a gallon of fuel or so through it, but as it sits right now, my brushless pede will eat it alive.

At any rate, if the Pro .15 does end up disappointing me, I do have a 2.5 sitting on the workbench just itching to park itself in the new pede.

If you throw a tuned pipe on it, it'll wake it up a little but still won't be near a 2.5.... Here's some reading you might be interested in - [link]http://www.nitrorc.com/mods/engines/trx15mod.html[/link].. if you trust your Dremel skills, you could wake it up quite a bit..

I continued to tune for power today for a little bit. Also swapped out the factory installed glow plug for a new one. Temps instantly dropped. Unfortunately, I swapped glow plugs towards the end of the day and there was not enough remaining daylight to continue tuning. Looks like leaning her out further will have to wait for another day. Top end power seems to be OK, but I really do miss the off-idle snap of the 2.5. My 2.5 powered Nitro Rustler will wheelie from a part-throttle roll downhill. Not a chance of the Pro .15 doing that in stock form.

One thing I do like is the lack of the typical nitro oil mess all over the truck thanks to the rear-facing exhaust.

Here is a couple pics of the new Nitro Stampede with the body off. I added shrink wrap tubing to the EZ Start wire as the body was already starting to slice it open. I also added it to the fuel line as well to help protect it from burning from coming in contact with the cooling head.

Ok, so, uh...notice anything different? Leave an R/C addict alone for a few minutes and he gets antsy! Remember that 2.5 that was sitting on my workbench? Well, the Pro .15 is sitting there now. Unfortunately, in the time it took me to swap the 2.5 in the truck, it started raining.[:@] I was only able to test run the truck in the garage to make sure the linkages were all in order and adjusted properly. In a very short time, the pede went from not having enough power to wheelie to flipping over instantly with a quick stab of the throttle. Can't wait to get her out on dry ground and tune her. I originally got it running with the stock 2.5 tuned pipe, but decided to hook up the Nitro Stampede factory pipe for that "sleeper" look.

Body looks nice [sm=thumbup.gif].. looks very scale in comparison, I'm a big fan of realism & scale looks and the 1st pic got me curious... not that lexan and all that is realistic but you know what I mean, it's closer..

Just got back in after a little fun in the dark. The engine swap is a resounding success!! The stock Nitro Stampede pipe works just fine with the 2.5. I tuned it to run in the 250*F range and the power available with this conservative tune is unusable. The stock Nitro Stampede pipe is considered restrictive even on the Pro .15 but you'de never know it was restrictive with the 2.5 in the truck. It will power-wheelie on demand even from a half-throttle roll. The best part is it does it all without getting an oily mess all over the side of the truck from a side-mount tuned pipe!

It's also very, very quiet at part throttle with a sound I can only equate to a 250cc 2 stroke dirtbike at WOT. It also has a very dirtbike-like powerband with the Nitro Stampede pipe. I attribute this to a rich condition between off idle and 1/4 throttle. After it gets over this slightly rich condition, the mighty 2.5 comes "on the pipe" and takes off with the wheels in the air until it either, A) flips over backwards or, B) you back off the throttle enough to allow the skyward front end to come back down to earth. At first I thought the low speed needle may be too rich because of this rich condition, but I have it tuned to stall after about 3 seconds after pinching the fuel line which is about perfect. The slightly rich condition also allows the truck to get moving before it gets hit with all that horsepower which helps with traction. Instead of blowing the tires off on lose dirt, you get treated with a 20mph power wheelie when the powerband comes online. Oh, did I mention the truck doesn't get covered in oil? The truck is just as clean after 45 minutes of bashing as it is before you fill it with nitro.

Installed a T-Maxx fuel tank for longer run times tonight. Also installed the plastic tuned pipe mounted in the rear. What a difference in low end power!

Managed to get a video today in between rain showers. We used my tiny 5in1 on the low resolution setting to record the video so please excuse the quality. The grass and pavement were very slippery but as you can see, the 2.5 Nitro Stampede is still a wheelie monster even when traction is limited. This is with the tuned pipe mounted in the rear. The video is about 8 minutes long.

hey i got a pede with a megatech 16...can anyone tel me how fast that o.s. will get it going...and how fast the 2.5 will go

Which OS?

Depends on gearing, tires size, etc. The 2.5 powered Nitro Rustler with the stock gearing is somewhere in the mid 40s. Same engine in the Nitro Stampede should have a similar top speed given similar final gear ratios. Probably slightly slower due to the frontal area of both the body and tires.
