Hello,
I have a problem with my RCV 91-CD.

I just got this engine a few weeks ago. I ran it in on a stand. Probably put 5 tanks through it. I'm using S&J 15% with Synthetic Oil. This is my club fuel that is used by everybody in the club. I'm using an OS F plug. I got it pretty "dialed in" on the stand so I mounted it to my P-47 Thunderbolt .60 ARF from Hangar-9. It was running a bit on the rich side, but transitions, idle and top end were good.

When I put it in the plane, I had to adjust the needles because of the new orientation (45 deg off of inverted) and fuel tank now above the carb. But, it seemed happy, and it started SO EASILY. So, on my 3rd flight of the day I was buzzing happily around when the engine stopped abruptly. I put the gear down and glided the plane home. The engine was seized - hard. The propellor will not move. I did not force anything, but rather packed it up for the day.. Has this happened to anyone before? any idea what caused it? and what do I do now? I can either take it apart and try to diagnose, or just send it in for warrantee repair.

Best Regards,
David Majchrzak

I had a similar problem with my 58CD, it turned out it had broken the crankpin and destroyed the conrod. As long as you have followed all RCV's guidelines, they will sort things out for you, their customer service is fantastic.

Nice! I have a question and need some expert advice! I am building a VQ P51 and just bought an osfs 70 ultimate 4 stroke, but it wont fit under the engine cowl. I am thinking about the RCV 60 or 90. Anyone know if the RCV 60 would work? i noticed they only go to 6000 rpm vs the 11,500 with the OS.
The OS also puts out more hp. 1.2bhp vs rcv .09. the rcv90 puts out 1.5, same rpm

Would look nice with no holes cut in there... the model is 40-60 size..

Well, a hearty "thank you" goes out to RCV. I sent my engine into BJ's engine service with a warranty number. I get a NEW engine back with a report on the seized one. I called Bill ant BJ's to get details on what might have happened to seize my RCV. He said I might have gotten something in the carb to badly score the cylinder and sleeve. There was no evidence of any factory defect, nor any evidence of a lean run etc... I must've just got unlucky and a little something must popped in the carb. So basically, RCV replaced my engine when it was not their defect, it was just one of those 'unlucky' breaks.

So thank you RCV. My first RCV was the easiest engine to start in my fleet, and your service was exemplary in this case.
