cmsrp -> Scale Airliner (1/29/2003 3:45:48 PM)

This has probably been brought up many times before, but I'll ask anyway...
I am searching for a decent size scale modern airliner kit or plans...
Non-turbine at this stage guy's, but preferably around 75" span upwards... There seems to be a few models around, but no-one can tell me where to get kits or plans...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

canadair -> airliner models (1/30/2003 4:00:37 AM)

Hi, regards an airline transport type model, I have a question, and its not meant to be mean in any way, just curious:
why do you want an RC airliner??
as a former 737, Tristar, and current 747 pilot, I have to ask, whats the attraction?
realistically you cannot do a complete "scale" transport aircraft, and in terms of flying it, what can it do? either make it waaaay overpowered and do inverted passes, or just do touch and gos, but I guess I just do not understand, why spend all the time to make what is basically a large tube fly :)
I spend all my time in them dreaming of various aerobatic types to build!!
just curious :)
now that said, I guess a multi turbine one would be fun to see, as long as I did`nt have to pay for it!!

cmsrp -> Airliner (1/30/2003 6:56:51 AM)

The attraction is this...
IT"S A SCALE AIRLINER!!!!!!! End of story...

I have aerobatic aircraft that I can punch holes in the sky with!!!! I have a 3 channel 1/6th scale RC skydiver (and drop plane)!!!!!
I have a scale tigermoth!!!!!!
I have a scale Cessna 182!!!!!!
I have other sports aircraft!!!!!!
11 planes all up...

So you mean...Why do people have RC cars or boats? You cant do anything with them other than drive around in circles?????

Our scale competitions here are frequently visited by a modeler and his VERY large scratch built 727. It is only powered by two .25's in pusher mode and it flies so scale it is incredible... Anyone who has seen this model fly, would understand why I want one!!!!!!!!!

Canadair,

You have a good question there. I'll admit at first thought I was not too excited about building and flying a model of an airliner but there is something that "clicks" for lack of a better word, when you see a model Airliner Fly by.

When I take my model to a field the first impressions are always somewhat mixed but after the flight the remarks are nearly always the same.

It is just somehow facinating to see a model of an airliner in flight. I think it is because it is a completly new shape in the air. I remember the very first time I saw a real P 51 do a flyby, it was real an experience for me and one that I will never forget. I think in model terms to see a whole new type of model in the air has the same impression on people.

My two cents.

Thanks

cmsrp -> Scale Airliner (1/30/2003 7:34:09 AM)

You are correct Patrick...

But even better, yours have THAT sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could afford one of your kits, but unfortunately I cant (so the wife keeps reminding me), so I have to settle for something else...

Countryboy -> Airliners (1/30/2003 7:54:41 AM)

Attached is a pic of a 757-200 that was scratch built by a friend of mine. Scale, all but the prop engines hanging out of the nacelles.

The bad thing is, there are no kit's or plans currently available for it; although he has mentioned maybe doing a couple. He is currently revising the existing drawings. He is also planning on doing a 300 version at the same scale which will make the fuse 18 in. longer.

cmsrp -> Scale Airliner (1/30/2003 7:57:43 AM)

I LIKE that...
What wing span, power etc is this baby?????

The current specs on the 757 are as follows,

Winspan 99 in.

Fuse Length 126

Weight 30 lbs

Engines SuperTiger 90's swinging 12-8 three bladed props

Retracts with full sequencing doors.

cmsrp -> Scale Airliner (1/30/2003 8:35:21 AM)

Do you know if he scratch built straight off 3 veiw, or just went on "Modeling instinct"... What I mean is, if he built it straight from 3 veiw, did it have any horrible flight characteristics?????

Thia is exactly the size etc I am looking at!!!!!!!!

Countryboy -> Building (1/30/2003 9:08:02 AM)

I think that the building process came from a little of both. He started with good three views, but good modeller instincts were needed to carry through to completion.

This is actually the third one that has been built. The first was lost on maiden due too a miscalculated CG. The second was lost too an orientation issue. This particular one has several flights on it and does rather well.

Construction consist of a molded fiberglass nose and tail section as well as the nacelles, with the center tube being of cut foam and glassed.

Hey JERMAINE A

Thanks for the link!!!!! That 777 is OK!!!!!

canadair -> Scale Airliner (1/30/2003 3:29:10 PM)

Well, I guess you guys have a point, and I have to admit with 1-2 turbines it would be very nice to see, I have never seen an "airliner" model at the local field, ( maybe hanging out with mostly floatplane guys is a factor) :)
but a question for Patrick, you make a 1011, I looked at your site and that is very impressive, do you get the scale approach angle?
the real one is 7-9 degrees, and very noticeable compared to other transport stuff, ( mostly at 3-4)
any leading edge devices? ( that might be quite a linkage nightmare!
do you put incremental flaps on the model?
Last, have you got or tried speedbrakes, more so as a great looking feature on landing,
ya got me wondering about this now! I am interested in how much is practical to add.

foxx -> Scale Airliner (2/10/2003 2:15:35 AM)

There is company in Germany that offers all airliners flying today in 1/16 scale , all in short kits. For catalog write to:

Norbert Rauch, Im Wegerfeld 49, D-47877 Willich, Germany.

Brush up on your german because all matterial are written in german.
Thanks to RC report for publishing this address.

Hi.
CMSRP, I saw in a post that you have a scale cessna 182. Can I see some pics because I am building one too?

PilotFighter -> Scale Airliner (2/16/2003 8:08:50 AM)

I did a Beech 1900 about 12 years ago. The folks around here loved it. There is an airline based here in Houston that was operating them at the time and many of our members flew for that carrier. Makes it easier to sell when the time comes.
As for doing slow rolls.......anyone ever hear of Tex Johnston?
It turns out that rolling a B-707 is a scale maneuver! And there have been a few ferry crews that delivered Boeings with blue toilet water all over the lavatory!!
Personally, I can definitely see a Convair or a Martin 202 chugging around. Man, that would do the trick.....great visual impact, speed, technical difficulty, and romance all rapped up in one package! I get it !

Here's a quick photo of a real beauty!!!! A fully restored Constellation... These photo's were taken yesterday at the Melbourne International Airshow...

Air Video Fred -> Scale Airliner (2/25/2003 11:26:18 PM)

Airliner kits are available from RAUCH in Germany: Wingsections to cut from foam
nose and Tai;cone from epoxy/glasfiber.
Fuselage to be cut from foam, drawings for templates includet, as well as some instructions.
I know Bill Hempel, whom I have seen in Germany during a 3W sponsored show, operates a DC10 or MD 11 build with RAUCK parts.

A contact in Germany is Peter Michel, he has build many airliners.

om my website, go for Links and clubs you fing websites for airliner models:
For instance Thilo Kyritz: www.airliner.de

They all fly fantastically!

Fred
