This has probably been brought up many times before, but I'll ask anyway...
I am searching for a decent size scale modern airliner kit or plans...
Non-turbine at this stage guy's, but preferably around 75" span upwards... There seems to be a few models around, but no-one can tell me where to get kits or plans...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi, regards an airline transport type model, I have a question, and its not meant to be mean in any way, just curious:
why do you want an RC airliner??
as a former 737, Tristar, and current 747 pilot, I have to ask, whats the attraction?
realistically you cannot do a complete "scale" transport aircraft, and in terms of flying it, what can it do? either make it waaaay overpowered and do inverted passes, or just do touch and gos, but I guess I just do not understand, why spend all the time to make what is basically a large tube fly
I spend all my time in them dreaming of various aerobatic types to build!!
just curious
now that said, I guess a multi turbine one would be fun to see, as long as I did`nt have to pay for it!!

The attraction is this...
IT"S A SCALE AIRLINER!!!!!!! End of story...

I have aerobatic aircraft that I can punch holes in the sky with!!!! I have a 3 channel 1/6th scale RC skydiver (and drop plane)!!!!!
I have a scale tigermoth!!!!!!
I have a scale Cessna 182!!!!!!
I have other sports aircraft!!!!!!
11 planes all up...

So you mean...Why do people have RC cars or boats? You cant do anything with them other than drive around in circles?????

Our scale competitions here are frequently visited by a modeler and his VERY large scratch built 727. It is only powered by two .25's in pusher mode and it flies so scale it is incredible... Anyone who has seen this model fly, would understand why I want one!!!!!!!!!

Canadair,

You have a good question there. I'll admit at first thought I was not too excited about building and flying a model of an airliner but there is something that "clicks" for lack of a better word, when you see a model Airliner Fly by.

When I take my model to a field the first impressions are always somewhat mixed but after the flight the remarks are nearly always the same.

It is just somehow facinating to see a model of an airliner in flight. I think it is because it is a completly new shape in the air. I remember the very first time I saw a real P 51 do a flyby, it was real an experience for me and one that I will never forget. I think in model terms to see a whole new type of model in the air has the same impression on people.

My two cents.

Thanks

You are correct Patrick...

But even better, yours have THAT sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could afford one of your kits, but unfortunately I cant (so the wife keeps reminding me), so I have to settle for something else...

Attached is a pic of a 757-200 that was scratch built by a friend of mine. Scale, all but the prop engines hanging out of the nacelles.

The bad thing is, there are no kit's or plans currently available for it; although he has mentioned maybe doing a couple. He is currently revising the existing drawings. He is also planning on doing a 300 version at the same scale which will make the fuse 18 in. longer.

Do you know if he scratch built straight off 3 veiw, or just went on "Modeling instinct"... What I mean is, if he built it straight from 3 veiw, did it have any horrible flight characteristics?????

Thia is exactly the size etc I am looking at!!!!!!!!

I think that the building process came from a little of both. He started with good three views, but good modeller instincts were needed to carry through to completion.

This is actually the third one that has been built. The first was lost on maiden due too a miscalculated CG. The second was lost too an orientation issue. This particular one has several flights on it and does rather well.

Construction consist of a molded fiberglass nose and tail section as well as the nacelles, with the center tube being of cut foam and glassed.
