well sounds like you have everything under control I made similar mistakes with planes vs engines when I started so if I see the potental of someone else making the same mistake I try and point it out to save them the grief. I once bough a GSP Yak 72" everyone told me to take it back and Iwas like.. nah I will be ok. A 25cc barely flew it.. with a 46cc it had all the power I wanted but the wingloading was 45 oz Needless to say I flew at 50 mph landed at 80

Sounds like that 3.2 has a crank issue or is out of balance.. they are great engines and shouldnt have any vibration. Might have to send it in and get it checked out.

W4DNQ - I like your attitude - Wish I had one like yours

And you know what, people at RCU are judged by the number of times they have posted on the forum - because your posts are very low, many would assume you are a total newbie and direct you to read and learn from the collective wisdom of RCU community.
Indeed, RCU is a place where quantity rules quality

just like to make one thing clear.. I dont even look at post counts...

Putting a 65cc gas engine on a 77" plane was what made me try and making some suggestions.

I was lucky because having great xplainations from Sinergy before I bought any bigger gasser engine. With short xperience and just drop to gasser I wana buy 50cc above and lucky again I drop into this forum.

Sorry to much question on this engine because here in my country very dificult to get big giant scale plane and engine as well so meaning need to get good resources before buy.

Before I wanted to get that that extra 28% by WM I was keen into this plane

Product Name: Katana 50-60cc (ARF)
Product Dimensions
* Wing span: 80in/2030mm
* Length: 70.8in/1800mm
* Wing Area: 1238sq in/79sq dm
* Flying Weight: 5200-5900g
* Engine: 50-60cc Gas

so i was thinking to power up with DL50cc but to afraid not much power
http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_44&products_id=347

also with this 65cc
http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_44&products_id=329

so which the best engine for this Katana 80" and prop sugestion for hover & 3D.

thank you in advance.

Well according the the converter I looked at 5900 grams is just over 13 pounds.

13 pounds with 1238 sq in is 24oz wingloading which is great. A link to help you with wingloading is located at http://www.gsal.org/tools/Wing_Laoding.htm This plane is a much better choice than that extra. Actually even if it comes out at 14 pounds or so it will fly well.

For 3D you want to be really 28oz and under for good 3D although you can 3D a plane with higher wingloading they become really snappy.

At 13 pounds the DL 50 would have enough power... I wouldnt upgrade to a 65cc. A DL 50 should be able to handle a 15 pound plane no problem.

fay, I have just received that exact actual Katana. It is very nice and it is very light. I have not built it yet, but I would recommend the DL-50, or the engine that is going on mine, which is the Copperhead Aviation Venom 45. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5222154/anchors_5222154/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#5222154 This engine has a 2 year warranty right here in the US. This engine has a longer than typical 36MM stroke for this displacement of engines and is reported to bench just 160 rpm less than the DA-50R. Cost s a little less than the DL50 and although I have not run mine yet, I'm very happy with all that I see and know about it.

Got my GS65i in today! Guess I just barely beat the Chinese New Year. This engine is nice looking. Both the cylinder and the crankcase is painted. The crankcase is painted with a sparkling silver, kinda metalflake or pearl or something. The 29% Edge 540T thats its going on goessn't get here until Friday, so it'll be a little while more before I know more.

My god, look at that case, the chinese have really learnt the art of minimizing. That looks like one fine engine

Hi Guys,

Nobody has posted here in a while, so lets see if we can get the ball rolling again?
After being swamped with work, I have finally mounted the 65cc on a stand again and ran it last night. Prop was a MenzS 22X10, fuel 95 octane unleaded and castrol TTS at 25/1.
The engine started instantly, I let it run for a few minutes at factory setting just above idle and then decided to set the needles.
I closed the low end while running (not the safe way, I know, but I want to hear what its doing) and nothing happened. Eventually the needle was fully closed, with the engine still running? I then opened the needle 1 turn and thought I would try the top end. Top end was at 6900RPM at that time, shut the engine off to set the needle (I am brave, but not that brave) turned it in 1/8 turn and restarted, first flip. The top end reached 7200RPM and after that nothing, no matter how much I close the needle????
I let it run for a while longer at needles set back as per Factory (app. 1 1/2 turn out) and tried again, with the same results? Then my flying buddy noticed that it was spitting huge amounts of gas back out the carb (much to rich). I let it run at these settings at just above idle till the tank was empty. As the tank emptied, the engine picked up a few hundred revs. Let it cool and tried again. This time pinching the fuel line at the top end! The engine picked up to 8400RPM instantly before getting lean and I released the line.

It seams that I cannot lean it enough by the needles, to make it run smooth, what is going on with this thing???

Any suggestions????

Could it be that at 6800ft I am not able to lean it enough because of the thin air.

A 65cc engine that will turn a 22-10 at 8400 is the killer engine of all time for that size

Hi Ralph,

I'm not so sure if that is correct myself, I must addmit that it was getting dark and as we all know, darkness and tachs don't match.

But that dose not solve my problem?????

regards
