Does anybody have any ideas on how to remove the decals that are already on the model? I'm currently soaking the rego with a wet cloth but don't think it's going to do the job. Possibly a clear coat over the top, but it doesn't look like it.

I don't really want to start with the sandpaper, but that might be the last option....

Any ideas?

cheers,
Greg

Here in Colombia we have something called VARSOL. I don´t know if you can find it there but it eats through decals and old masking tape goo like nothing I´ve seen. It leaves a bit of grease so use alcohol afterwards. also, it´s safe on paint and monokote. I´m just looking at the bottle and it´s described as "aliphatic solvents".

Hope it´s useful
Mariano

Hi Mariano,

Thanks for the info. I'll look for it here in Oz and use it sometime in the future. I've decided that it was too hard to remove the factory decals this time so I settled for a German Discus. If the unthinkable happens and I need to re-finish it, I'll convert it to an Australian version. However, for the moment, I'll continue with it in factory finish.

thanks again,
Greg

I have not seen the decals on your bird, but if the decal looks like it is the type with adhesive backing you might try very carefully heating the decal with a hair dryer gun. Be careful not to over heat the fuselage, you might damage it. Sometimes the glue will reactivate when heated therefore making it easier to pull off.

good luck.

Hi everybody,
Seems this thread is a little slow... does that mean that nobody is flying this model? I flew mine for the first time yesterday, aerotow in very light lift. Very successful with an eight minute flight and a bunch of five's. Completely stock construction and used the CF wing joiner without difficulty. Lots of flex from the wings, but that just made it look more scale. Great whistle as it came past on a high speed pass and surprising "hang time" for a relatively heavy model. Very pleased with results.

Photos coming soon.

Cheers,
Greg

Well, that makes me happy, i just got the new CMPRO ventus, 2.6 meter, it comes with a steel 6mm joiner that is already a bit warped, so I´m not that sure about it. But the rest of the planes looks really nicely done for a chinese kit. The speedbrakes and R/G are really nice, we´ll see how long they last

Anyone else got this one?

Hi all,

Here are the promised photos. Had to reduce them quite a bit before the system would accept them - originals were 5Mb each!!

Anyway, the Discus aerotows quite nicely and the only difficulty I had was losing sight of it at high altitude against the plain blue sky. Would have been easier against clouds, but I'm not about to wish for that.... loops and rolls are also great, but the roll rate slows dramatically on the last half of the roll even though I'm mixing rudder and ailerons. I'd rather have a wheel, but the fuselage is currently protected by some clear tape I scavanged from the hangar at work. It normally goes on the leading edges of full size aeroplanes, but suits my purpose very well. Ground run on takeoff is only about three metres and landing is just a little more so there are no scrapes in the glass yet. The Ventus is on my wish list and hopefully it flies just as well.

Cheers,
Greg

Quite well, considering their weight. I had very light conditions and managed to find a few thermals. Of course a true thermalling sailplane will leave it for dead, but I'm very pleased with its performance.

Cheers,
Greg

You should consider that scale sailplanes are models of real sized sailplanes made for competition thermaling so they should thermal very well.

Mike,

Although my intended use is same as yours, I went ahead and made the following mods: foamed the fuselage with construction type expanding foam (I couldn't get the Gorilla glue to work) and positioned the rudder servo in the tail opposite side and lower than the elevator servo. I'd like to go with the 6mm steel wing joiner but have not had success finding a US source. Have you had any luck?
I haven't flown mine yet. I was hoping for the steel rod first.

Jim
