I'm far from being an expert at radios, but it seems if your 4in1 arms, then the xtal should be OK and you're on the right channel. I could be wrong, but this is normally true. If I had an Axe CP I could help more, but I don't, and I don't know if there's something special about it's 4in1.
Hopefully, someone else will help out.

Anybody know if the Eflite 3 in 1 from the CP PRO will work on the Axe Cp. It's cheaper.

I've been having this problem for a little while now and don't know the cause. When I lift up and try to hover (about 5ft), the axe doesn't hold it's altitude very well. It will move up and down about 3-4 inches every few seconds. Sometimes it will stay steady and then suddenly drop. I fly in an indoor track and there isn't any air current that would seem to be the culprit. I don't know if it's a ground effect or what. I was running it at nearly full throttle on a fresh nimh pack and it was only slightly climbing. Any ideas (or previous post referrals that evaded my search)?
Thanks.

... I'm wondering if it needs some special type of crystal?

Did you get this working? Maybe you need to select PPM instead of PCM (or QPCM?).

I have been following this post for a few weeks, and I highly recommend anyone thinking of getting into the pilots seat of an Axe or any other chopper for that matter, to go back to page one and read every post. There is such a wealth of information here from noob's ,(like me), to the Pro's that have logged many hours. No matter what level you are, the information as well as the camadre of fellow pilots is simply astounding. My second recommendation is to get some kind of simm program. I wrecked my Axe within 2 hours of opening the box, just from ignorance and a lack of patience. I bought a second hand GP 3.5 and lets just say if I had to replace all the parts I "destroyed" in the simm, then it would make the national debt look like peanuts. And another great thing, you can fly-no matter what the weather. Off the soap box and back to the simm. I just wanted everyone that has left a post past, present, and future that you have my eternal gratitude. Thanks so much!

Respectfully-John

Need help with radio glitches. Mine is un-flyable do to the glitches. It is sitting there, on, throttle stick all the way down, and about every 20-30 seconds it will blip the throttle and spin the blades. When i do try and hover it, it will bounce around like a cat on a hot tin roof. Up, down, left, right, tail right, left. I have re-routed the antenna and motor leads. Not sure what to think. I have a second AXE on the same channel, 36 and I have swapped the RX's and TX's and it still does it. Both have the same glitch. That sort of rules out the RX and TX. It gets bad when it slams into the ground from 3 feet up and you have full throttle and it acts like it is in idle up and drives into the ground.

This is driving me crazy. I know it is a short trip. But I want to fly and this radio glitch is killing my wallet and stability.

Any ideas will be looked into. I am sending an email to Hobby Services to see what they say.

Thanks.

Dru.

Do you have any metal to metal contact on the heli? This will sometimes cause interference. Any "rubbing" of metal causes glitches.

Mine had bad solder joints inside the heat shrink at the connections going to the main motor. The wire was just resting inside the connector held by the plastic coating around the wire shoved into the brass connector.

When I had my Axe it did the same thing. Until I replaced the cheapassed z-links with some ball links. That little wiggle that exists at the link translates into swash movement which in turn will translate into an unwanted change in direction. While you are at it, make sure that the ball links in the head do not have any molding flash on them. These will cause the links to stick and make the the heli act odd.

P.S. Sups Pilotlight..... longtime... how are the skies?

I got tired of wrestling with the aft canopy mounts on my axe, so I glued 8mm rare earth magnets to the mount rod and the canopy.

So far it works very well, the magnets hold it tightly in place.

I left the front mount the way it was.

The canopy is tilted forward, this allows room for a larger battery.

magnets attached
magnets on mount rod

I got a box of these rare earth cell phone thingies - you put a metal plate on the cell phone, and the attach the magnet to the dash of the car, and mount the phone there - well, I work in a building with metal walls, so I brought a bunch of these in to hold stuff to the wall - I swear, when I snap one to the wall, I have to use a screwdriver to pry it off!!!! They are the most powerful magnets I have ever had, and I have played around a lot. Weird thing, there is a copper placed disk on one side of the magnets, and there is ABSOLUTELY no magnetic properties getting through that disk!

For anyone interested, if you go to the Heli-Max website, (www.helimax-rc.com), there is some information and pictures showing how to remove the blade grips on a Heli-Max. Would have saved me some time and effort if I had seen this site first. Not everyone knows you have to have a wrench or screwdriver through both grips to remove them. Or removing the bearings. Got that tip from an earlier post. (THANKS ALLEN!)
FYI, I purchased a Heli-Max Blade Balancer(New) off eBay, and none of the 4 blade mounting plates fits the holes on my blades. I fired off a letter to Heli Max and I will report back with what they have to say about the balancer. I really don't want to ream the holes on my blades because they fit so well on the blade grips. Anyone else had a problem like this?

Thanks,
Sling Blade

1chibear, I have the same balancer. it does not fit the stock holes on the AXE blades. I just sanded down the pins in the plastic holder to fit the holes in the blades.

Well I made some progress today. I know there is no mechanical binding issues that would cause this glitch. I know it is electronic. I was sitting there yesterday and plugged the battery in, I went to put on the body and the blades spun up. Just enough to get a couple of rev out of it. I did feel it on my knuckles.

I moved the 3 in 1 to the left hand side. I held it in place with a small strip of double sided tape. I charged the battery. I plugged the battery in, no glitch as I put on the body. I pick it up and take it out side. No glitches. So far so good. I put it down and wait a couple of minutes. No glitches. I think I have it.

Well in my glitch fogged mind, I moved the 3 in 1 so that the front is pointing down. That changed the way the gyro is positioned. Well I lifted off and the tail was all over the place. I ended up breaking the tail rotor again. I do not have a spare. I will pick up one tomorrow, or should I say every one they have. I may have it fixed if I can position the 3 in 1 board the correct way.

I sure hope I get some flights in this weekend.

Thanks.

Dru.

Thanks Dru. I have had my Axe several weeks now. Like an ijit I charged up the battery and thought I would try a couple of hops in the basement. The 1st hop was from the floor to the celing in about .00005 seconds. I negleted to find out which way the idle switch was to be thrown. So, a little red faced I repaired the ceilng and ordered spare parts and a flight simulator. Parts are still in the box. I need some serious time with the sim.
Good luck on your electrical gremlins! Sometimes it is the simplest thing-other times it ends up being the last part you replace.
As for the blade
