RICK REPORTING : SATURDAY AFTERNOON !!

I CAN FINALLY SAY WITH GREAT PRIDE THAT I CAN NOW FLY A RADIO CONTROLLED HELICOPTER !!!
JAY RADIO FLYER : you were ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ....all it took was J U S T D O I T !!! thankxxxx JAY ...
-*-*-*-*
Even in big pain, as usual, I was planning to stay inside. A burst of WILLPOWER took over and I drove 3 helis out to the flying field.
I was going to FLY FORWARD or GIVE UP FOR GOOD,,, so I went on with great determination.
Several EXPERT heli flyers were present. I first took up my yellow HBK2 . The CAMCORDER was on and I just pushed the heli out
of the hover. Amazingly, I can fly it so well and positive, that I was doing FF and returns, to both sides. Did several pirouettes and
as commented by MarK Conroy : HEY ! doing NOSE IN FLYING, coming from the downwind leg, and coming in for a landing in the
NOSE IN position is pretty darn hard. He says I flew it perfectly.
THEN GREAT LUCK kicked in to protect me : with the HELI at 12" and in hover for landing, the heli pirouetted into the ground.
No damage : the CNC gear was not tight enough on the shaft and had slipped, which killed the tail response. ONE servo arm broken in half.
QUESTION : where does one go for replacement servo arms for these tiny servos ??????
__ Did the white HBK2 and the same results : positive FF , turns and pirouettes... got a bit too far, disoriented and came in UpSideDown (on the blades)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iz57KOUuV_I

at very low and slow speed. Minimal damage....... Got everything on TAPE ( so I thought ! )
READY for my special T-REX .... one of the Xperts volunteerd cameraman and I started getting used to the TREX ( Outside, with lots of SPACE, for first time)
The expert, unknown to me, had RE-WOUND the tape, to tape my TREX......ALL MY PREVIOUS GREAT FLYING GOT WIPED OUT, so all you get to see is the
Very Boring Testing of the TrEX.\

I apologize for that, but I am VERY VERY excited because I can FINALLY FLY A HELI..........There will be tapes made, to prove it. I really can !

YOUR AULDE FRIEND : RICK

AHHH, pre-race is on right now. I did watch the end of the prototype race last night and caught Bill Lester being squeezed and the end result. Those guys should use welded shut door, that looked scary Gigs, producing gigs....sweet sorry to hear about the HBKII. Dave reminded me to check the hoop things that control the flybar for cracks. Their hard to see but will spread while flying, you may want to inspect those as well as every other part

Scott, isn't Vic the best? My only thought , and I'm with Ray, is for the price of those upgrades for that CP PRO you can have a HBKII. It REALLY is the whip, so much more stable.

I gave chopper flying a rest today, I've been relentless, but I did fly my Extra for 26 minutes. What a joy Radio Control is

God Bless Y'all,

Jay

Rick,

Sorry about the mishaps, but heck we all do that. At least now you know you CAN do FF. The Trex video was very good, and you had excellent control... Next time don't let anyone rewind your video tape.

Your Question: "QUESTION : where does one go for replacement servo arms for these tiny servos ?????? "

Your Answer: All you need to do is PM Choppersrule (That's me ) with your address, and I'll send you a few, one for now and one for later and one for the spare parts box.

Take care Rick, love ya and God Bless,

Dave / Choppersrule

Geese oh petes!!! Rick, CONGRATULATIONS! That is AWESOME! I am so happy for you I really hope your health continues to improve! I didn't see your post earlier because I didn't see it went to anther page

I completely understand getting disoriented. Choppers have a way of doing that, like the 3d cube that your mind can see in 2 positions. It is easy to get lost and have a mishap. Even though... you still knocked over a huge wall in fly helicopters today. May your health continue to improve and your right thumb continue to push forward!

GOD BLESS YOU RICK!

Hey All, I thought I edit to show the newest member of the family. He's only 7 weeks old and has the sweetest personality.

Technical note: I've been working feverishly on upgrading and set-up as well as learning the traits of the HBKII. One thing I've been chasing is the tail vibrating and bobbing. I fixed most of it by increasing the head speed on the throttle curve in normal mode. Still... I could see some shaking. I've never had to balance tail rotor blades before, the T-Rex never has shown these symptoms. I took the blades off and balanced by sanding the heavy tip and it didn't take much. I took it back up and now there is just the slightest of visible vibration. Most likely I could use a better balancing method on the tail rotors.

God Bless All,

Jay

Jay,

Check out this site for balancing tail rotor blades, very tedious. I can see that you are a perfectionist, me too.
It's for an Eco 8, but the principals are all the same.

Very good link! Back to the basics where I learned to fly Yes I am a perfectionist, it helps in my job as a drywall finisher. Everyone should feel this way about there set-up. The smallest bent or out of balance part can cause the heli to react in a horrible way and sometimes make the heli very uncontrollable.

Thank-you for the link Your knowledge is invaluable!

God Bless Ya,

Jay

Jay,

Glad to help out. Did you happen to notice that the guy that wrote the article mentioned, that 1/100th of a gram can make a difference in low frequency vibration. YIKES! Who would have thunk that.

Along those lines, the bigger the helicopter, the more important balancing is. Both dynamic and static balancing.

Try this the next time you balance a set of main blades. Get them as perfect as you can on your balancer. Leave the blades on the balancer and hang a dollar bill on one of the blades. It will fall like a rock.. Hmmmm, a dollar bill weighs 1 gram. So, balancing is very critical.

God Bless,

Dave / Choppersrule

Barrickkkkkkkkkkkk,
I'm proud of yer....good lad.....ain't it fun....?
I started to disect my HBK for to overhaul the transmission after my crunch.
I knew I shoulda stripped her down 'fore I flew her. It would appear that the clearance 'tween the motor pinion and the main gear may have been very close to the negative zone....the rim of the gear is distinctly thicker than the rest of the gear and it doesn't feel engineered......so I'm glad I ordered another drive gear.
Just a bit too much breeze for safe flying (for me) so the birds are resting and watching TV.
Looks as if the weather may prove unreliable over the next few days so I'll be laying track and just to make it look good, I'll lay dual gauge to open up another area for my narrow gauge...at the moment I have an L-shaped road taking two walls of a 12'x9' room and each is 3ft wide so it'a a "here to there" system. I have ideas for building another section to make it into a U-shape and apart from the main line it will be solely narrow gauge. Besides which, I just got my hands on a nice three truck Shay....beautiful little thing...made in China.
I must away, gents, has been a helluva day.
Ray.
