Update on Trex 600:

She's now 100% complete and ready for the maiden flight.. I damn near had a mishap when starting to program the 100 Amp ESC.

I powered up the RX, I'm using an external bec. I moved the throttle to full power. Then plugged up the ESC to the main battery pack.
I got some beeps, then moved the throttle stick to power down position. This process puts the ESC in the set-up mode. YIKES, OH, YIKES! When I move the stick down, the motor took off like ya wouldn't believe. Somewhat paniced, I move the stick to the up position and the motor stopped. Hmmmm. I had to go into the TX and Reverse the Throttle. Now all is okay.

Now the good part, I didn't have any blades at all on the heli for this testing. Main or tail. This build is with ALL new electronics, who would have thunk that would happen. Lucked out on this one.

I'm shooting for a Tuesday maiden. That's my day off.

Dave

Dave, we are waiting with great antisapation! Good luck on the maiden as well as that you did not get hurt on the mishap with the motor.

Rick,

Take the T-28 and have a ball with it, heck with the MexBoy. LMAO ! You dog you, now ya got me thinking on a mSR.
I thought I would never go back to E-flite. Now ya got me thinking... I've seen tons of videos on them and the do look like a lot of fun. And this is what this hobby is all about, having fun.. Damn the money and let 'er roll. Yes Rick, you are WEAK. LOL ! And so is everyone else on this thread...

If weather permits, I WILL maiden the Trex 600 tomorrow, and have Liz get a couple of Snap-Shots. I don't do video stuff. Just me.

Great news, love it,

Dave

Rick....I can't show the grandkids the pic of your pilot...it would SCARE them (LMAO)

Jeff...thanks on the lights (Dave too). I put diffusers on the LED's, that might help alot next time out. As for the MSR....I watched about 6-7 videos of it on you tube, not even remotely interested.

Dave....just had a thought about your mishap yesterday.....glad the flybar didn't nail you or that huge tail rotor....that would have left some marks for sure.

Hey Vic,
That is a very handsome plane you have there. The nose light look very bright too. I'll bet she flies smooth too. Good luck with the light adjustments.

Rick........having fun is what it is all about at our ages. Crap, if theres enough to bury me, thats almost too much! I earned, I'll spend it. However, I did tell the kids they could have the houses..........better not remind them about that. Hey if I go silent and stop posting have the cops talk to my kids LOL.
I have flown the MSR and it was fun. But I was strong enough not to go get one..............but it was tempting.

My next toy will be to finish my balsa P51 and for a purchase I have been eye balling a T REX 700E. A guy had one for sale last week for 2K and I REALLY had to show HUGE restraint to not go pick that puppy up.

Chopper, we have been talking all week it seems about your maiden....so once again BEST OF LUCK!

JPEE...it flys like nothing I've ever flown before. Not great, not terrible, just DIFFERENT. It's CLOSE to a 3D plane, but yet it isn't. Has great slow handling, and it ROG's real nice. It's very aerobatic, but not 3D. I programmed in flaperons, that's quite different, never flew a plane with flaps before. I just did a static test running a 12x6 prop, vertical authority improved emmensely (better than running the OS .40FP even), the battery and motor stayed cool, the ESC got warmer than I'd like....I'm thinking 60a ESC now. I should be recieving a 4 blade 10x6 prop tomorrow or so, maybe that will give vertical without the heat of the 12x6 on the ESC....I hope so. It's an awsome flyer for sure....I'm pretty happy with it. Pic below is with the diffusers in place to better spread light off the LED's.

Whoa alot of catchup to do Ive been lurking abit with no time to post.

Dave,
The 600 looks AWESOME way to go buddy waiting for flight report.

Vic,
That is one nice lookin plane. You always do a great job with details even if its something simple your "touch" makes it stand out from the rest.

Rick,
I could write a page just about your latest experiences. Great to hear about improved health. You are a better pilot then you had let on in the past and improving daily. Im very glad you are getting back to helis again after you short break. You got a nice Fleet goin there.

Everyone else Ill get to you too after i catch up

Ok the latest on me.

Jeff, I got the skyfly back from the tree now that the leaves aer gone I could see it so I got it, mainwing, fuse and tail boom is all thats good on it the rest was destroyed in the crash.

Its been windy here so not much flying, yesterday i got 2 Exi flight(hovering) in for some practice so I dont get too rusty. Since the weather is not so good Ive been building foamies, the snoopy plane i built flys so good I built a 2nd for Steve. And got some more foamies planed for winter projects. Vision 50 still no further progress because of lack of funds I did add decals to the canopy so it looks finished with the canopy mounted
Now for the not good- Today we are going to the Vet for the dogs check up but mostly for advice for Jessie. As of now she does not walk anymore kinda drags her rear legs around. I only have carpet in my living room and she has trouble moving on the hardwood floors and so she is not eating unless I hand feed her even then she dosent eat like she should. She has lost weight, and when outside its hard to keep her self positioned to relive herself. There are some other problems she is having so we are sitting down to talk with the Vet.

That's bad news on Jessie, but I know you'll make the right decision. My wife has a cat that's 19yo, it's time. She's blind, deaf, walks into walls, lays in her food, it's not good at all, the wife is upset, but it's time to let the kitty go.

Glad you got your plane back. I still have an F16 in the corn field and they haven't harvested yet. I'd like to get it before the combine does, but if I can't, so be it. If some of the leaves drop on the corn stalks....I might have a chance.

Vic,
Thats great that she handles in a way that is acceptalbe to you, no one wants to struggle to fly forsure. I think you've solved the lite issue too with the diffusers, the lights are not dots anymore but more larger and kinda blurry or halo-ish and should be easier to see from a distance. Well done.

Kyle, God Bless that pup. I am really sorry to hear she is sliding. I pray the Vet will have some good news for you and the family.

Thanks guys
We know already that there is nothing the Vet can do to fix her legs, its nerve deterioration we took her in last July and found that. Only thing now is if she has a quality of life issue, she is not in pain that we know of, but mentally its hurting her not being able to move or function.

Kyle ~

Cool you finally got that darn plane back ! I'am also very sorry to hear about Jessie.... My prayers are for her without a doubt.....

Vic ~

You still didn't get that F-16 out from the corn patch ??? ! LMAO..... Man, I'd be searching for days for the sucker ! You should have had like an Align ESC with the DX7, as then when power is lost, the ESC emits a high audible alert to help assist the pilot in recovery of the aircraft.... Heh ! Actually forget the DX7, but just certain ESC's will do that and is kinda cool huh ? I just had to say "DX7" to see if I could get yer forehead to sweat a bit ya know ?? ! Ah, you know I love ya..........!

Dave ~

So have you tinkled yet ?? !! You know, the 600......

To the Bob's,

No Trex 600 flight today.

Winds were just to high for me to be comfortable with a new heli the size of the 600.

I know they handle the wind with little problems. However, this is my first big helicopter, so I'm playing on the safe side for now. To much $$$ at stake for me. Ya, know.

Sorry to disappoint some of ya, but it's very frustrating for me too. Damn it!

It's that time of year, that it gets dark here in Greenwood pretty early, around 5:45. So, with work and all, it'll be the weekend before I can even think about a maiden flight... Lucky, I'm a patient guy.

Jeff, no tinkling today. I wish I did. LMFAO!

SPECTRUM ROCKS!

Dave

AN ITSY BITSY REPORT : The T-28 flies beautiful/perfectly. I have (so far) no experience with Electric Plane flight , particularly a plane that is SO INCREDIBLY LIGHTWEIGHT !

It was windy , maybe up to 10mph, the flags were out straight. WHAT A SWEET PLANE......looooonnnggg take off run and the smoothest liftoff. I was VERY conservative because the batteries were not that high in charge, so there were only TWO trial flights.
the whole range of the electric motor is put to use, the speed drops off smooth and proportional, the approaches and t/down were perfect both times.
Is it any wonder that we don't BUILD anything anymore. ? I don't think I could replicate a scale T-28 to match this one, in weight, in looks and in performance.
next time I will wring it out because I believe there is AEROBATIC PERFORMANCE in this little guy.....I will also take the wing-droops off cleanly to improve flight performance.
I walked my 3 times around the field and I begin to not feel the effort. Not even breathing hard, when only last month I could hardly even get out of the car.....
A MIRACLE is in progress, for me.
and I thank every BOB for the encouraging words. I also flew two packs on the HBK 2 inside the garage. A perfect flyer, also.

Kyle,

Please send me your e-mail address. I have a wonderful e-mail from my daughter concerning dogs.

It's named, " The Purpose of a Dog".. Lovely pictures and unbelieveable words from a 6 year old boy.

Dave

Rick...it's incredible you're doing so good, makes me very happy to hear it. WHEN you pull those droops, you know things are gonna change big time, be ready for it. My uproar started life as a .40 nitro, now it's 100% electric. I threw a 12x6 propeller on it, vertical improved immensely. I flew it twice tonight in zero wind, it was perfect....even dropped the flaps for the landing....smooth as glass. No heat issues outside in flight, all components were cool when it landed. I know the 12x6 prop is too much, an 11x6 might be better, but I got a 10x6 4 blade comming....that might be the ticket.

to TREASURE it I will file it in my keepers.

to CRASH, thanks ... I will report how it changed without the droops. But with just two short flights in the wind, my experience with the plane is still unborn.
