Vic,
I hope you got to fly more than the one pack. I just came back from the Club Field and no noe was there and..........there was wind. Yes Ic ould have flown the 500-600 but why, if everyone else left today why should I take my stuff up. Sometimes ya godda go with the flow. I came home whole this time.

JPEE

JPEE...sometimes you gotta follow your instincts. I didn't do another flight because I come out of the basement and MAN, it got dark FAST. I could have gone up one more time but decided against it. Sometimes good ole fashoned restraint pays for it's self so I don't worry about missing a flight. I'll check tomorrows weather and see what gives. I really want to try with that 4 blade 10x6, so I'm NOT really motivated cause it ain't here yet (LMAO). I notice the 12x6 I'm swinging right now is borderline too much for this motor. No heat issues, but I got that little stall screech you hear in a brushless when the load is a bit much when it starts out. We live to fly another day as it were.

Jeff-Michael,

No way would the 600 be a shelf queen, I’m so anxious right now. Just waiting for the wind to
calm down a bit. I’m sure that I’ll have sometime this weekend to sneak a quick one in for sure.
I’ll get up super early, like JPEE and give it shot if I have to.

I watched your Autorotations,, great job there, AGAIN. You found a sweet spot there pretty
quickly.. Also, this is the first video I’ve seen of someone Practicing Autos. The video too,
shows your skills of flying slow, at lower levels and graceful turns.. I don’t miss a trick Pal,
Just don’t SREW up. LMAO !

Rick,

I really like that Innovator Expert, I think you’re gonna be thrilled with it. The videos of your
other Innovator are very good and the heli looked very stable.. You are the “Nose-IN” king
right now. I can fly nose in, but still can’t hover nose in.. Hmmm, don’t know why, oh must be
brain pharts. No trouble with the video of the Veterans, brought tears to my eyes too.

Vic,

I friend of mine, years ago, was working with 440 volts at U S Steel, up in Gary, IN. Touched a
buss bar, and it blew 3 of his finger tips right off, down to the first knuckle. He was lucky, that's all that happened.

JPEE,

Sometimes going with the flow is a Good thing. You probably did the right thing.
That’s why I’m waiting in frustration, with the wind factor. Lol !

Jezz.... I just notice, this tread has over 13,000 replies.

http://www.vimeo.com/7598009

just before I left to the Dr.'s office I decided to find out if the INNOVATOR EXP is a "good deal" ?

the main reason I clamped on to the INNOVATOR line was that I am mostly interested in flying (learning)
to fly helis. With hardly a workshop, any tools left, and tri-focals in front of my eyes, assembly is almost
out of my league. So even against the CRASH's better opinion I went with the INNOVATOR 503... After a
series of mishaps, none my fault, I have a heli that serves MY purposes, but exactly. and now I decided
further to try the EXP. To experiment fully, all I did after taking it out of the box, was to clamp the two
blades and charge the red battery, add eight cells to the TX. that is ALL I DID, and the results are shown
in the enclosed picture. Mind you, I did not check blade alignement, blade balance, CG, NOTHING AT ALL
just fired it up.
I am well pleased with this line of INNOVATOR. I give credit where credit is due.

P.S. : as an additional sweetener, I had to go looking for this EXP because it seems that the general public
has not accepted this system very well, ( yet ) and I found a deal in E-BAY . When I'm signing off I realize
I have just purchased the EXP from a local hobby shop right here in Houston. So I call and tell them I would
like to come and save the "shipping" . So I did, and the owners had been CLIENTS of mine from my years
at the Airport. Final price for the EXP : $ 500 -which means I got the EXP for just $ 33.00 more than a B-400 RTF
That's what friends are for : right ?

Nice work on the auto-rotations, Jeff. I tried to think of something better than Mr. Auto-rotation McAuto-rotation, but that doesn't flow that well.

RicK,

Great video of the Innovator EXP, very stable. I didn't see any yaw drifting, so the gyro must be a good one too. The head speed for hovering sounds just about right on the money too. So the pitch curves are good to boot. Sounds like you have yourself a winner there. Glad you're happy with it. Hey, take care of that cold you have, get well soon, get well soon.

Hopefully, I'll get some calm weather this weekend to test the Trex 600.. Only 9 more working days, I'm excited about that.

The other OLD ONE,

Dave

I know its not going to be no shelf quenn, but I had to rib ya anyway... BUT.... Just in case it does.... Ya always could send it my way, I'll fly her like I stole er' for ya ! Hek, I'll even share some video with ya... (LMAO).... But serious Dave, I can't wait for a report on her from ya. As you know, no rush though.....

Eric ~

Thanks for the Autorotation compliment... Dang I was nervous ! As I told Vic a long time ago about trying them, there's just something about cutting the power off in flight up in the air that just doesn't feel right... Lol... But really, it wasn't all that bad. Now I see how JPEE has had to Auto his 500 and other birds a few times from a mishap in the air, and brought them back in-tack... So its a good procedure to know at least just in case.....

Rick ~

That Innovator EXP looks and sounds great ! I can't believe that it comes stock with a 55 amp esc ! Very cool.... It must run very effecient, since I bet it doesn't have to struggle so much and I bet it has cool running temps. Very nice... My Castle 80 amper when I ran that in my T-450 with that power hog 525 watt Scorpion motor also made things run very effecient... Now for awhile, I've been running the Castle 45 amp ESC, and I notice things aren't as effecient as the 80 amper provided. Now I see why the makers of the Scorpion motors recommends at least a 55 amp ESC... I'll end up putting back in my 80 amper in time I think... Still more testing...

I also browsed You-Tube for other Innovator EXP videos, and was amazed at gents doing 3-D with the Innovator with great success ! +1......

Ok.... So when I watched your Hughes video that you edited in your post, I saw your problem you were talking about... That is the LVC going off again on that bird also as the pod and boom Trex 450 did for you that we discussed just recently... You can clearly hear the motor pulsating. Even if the battery charged fully, it could be a weak battery and under load it just can't perform like it did when she was new... Remember that now that you have added weight with that fuselage, the components and battery are going to be working harder than they would in your lighter pod and boom Trex 450. The amp draw also increases and puts more of a load even for the battery. So a newer battery might be your best bet... It could be that its just now old and tired is all, and no biggie... (knida like Dave)... LMAO... Naw, but I couldn't resist. I got to rib him whenever possible ya know ?? !

Thanks for the videos again.....

quote:

Even though it's a balmy 55deg, the wind made my eyes water like a waterfall....

Vic ~

I know you love that new Uproar, but dang.... You really got to stop crying when yer flying her.... Cool you got to be sneaking in some flights recently though ! Its been wet and windy here... Eh... So I just envy Rick's flights and just been tinkerin' & stuff. I want to try an Autorotation with the T-500 soon, and so I'am gutting weight from her some.

Jim ~

Still waiting for that Decathlon video..................................

Tip of the Day:

Blade Tracking......

I like to experiment and did the following process on my Legend 450 for the test. It worked out
very well.

This is how I SET-UP Blade Tracking on the Trex 600. I didn’t want to post this, until I new it
worked with no hitches. It makes it safe and easy.

No hovering, no crow bar in the skids or holding in your hand.. (Holding in your hand is a BIG
Safety hazard, DON’T DO THAT!)

Pretty simple, you have to have a programable radio.. Go into your Pitch Curve Menu, and set
all the POSITIONS to say 2 %. Check, by eyeball, that it’s close to 0 degrees Pitch, adjust as
necessary.

My DX6i, has a Low, 2 ,3 4 and High position, so I set them all to 2 %, your’s may differ.

This way you can set it on the ground, a table, or whatever. And not have to worry about the
helicopter going anywhere.

You can go from any throttle position, 0 to 100%, and the helicopter is on the ground. Just watch
the tail. If the gyro is set up correctly, it will not move. If it does move in this process, time to
check the gyro settings or tail linkage adjustments.

See Picture, I use this roll around thingie, and place it in the center of the room.

Dave

Li-Po battery safety revisited:

Chemical Explanation
LiPo batteries contain lithium. If lithium is exposed to air with even a slight amount of humidity, it can ignite, releasing hydrogen and other chemicals. Hydrogen is extremely explosive, and is ignited by the burning lithium, resulting in a violent flare-up.
Physical Process
The usual cause of flare-ups is mishandling, which causes a buildup of gas in the battery, leading to a characteristic "LiPo puff" the swelling of the battery package. If the "puff" is large enough, the package may rupture, exposing the lithium to air.
Non-LiPo Chargers
LiPo batteries require chargers made specifically for them. Using the wrong type of charger is likely to cause a flare-up.
Overloading
If too much current is drawn ("overloading"), the battery will become very hot and release gas internally (puffing). The battery will rupture, exposing the lithium to air, resulting in a fire.
Physical Damage
Anything that breaks open a LiPo battery pack, even a small puncture, will likely result in a fire.

What Did You Do

LMFAOROTFF.....NUTH'IN

Just ran into a Li-Po that puffed and after it "cooled" and went back to normal size...it got squishy meaning there's AIR in that battery. No fire, no loss of hair/skin/ or equipment.

J MICHAEL
I start off by saying that I truly APPRECIATE every response you send me on a multiple count : you cheer me up and encourage but mostly you ANALYZE what I do and give me solutions that so far have been applied and HELPED.

In fact : I am having problems with all my LIPO BATTERIES here and several need to be resuscitated. Here is a picture of the processing of one that will not come back, because it cannot find it's own BALANCED SITUATION.

I have read and followed this RED SCHOLEFIELD on about how to "pull back" LiPos and I am trying to do the same.
The HUGHES, I believe, is plagued by just exactly that : a battery paucity.

the pics show the THREE charging systems I use, where two have a discharge capacity. You see the blue batt. in the front of the bench being charged again with the balancer (BLINKY) connected, but it still doesn't go back up. At $ 79.00 this batt. is expensive and it is the one that belongs to the T-34 ( the abandoned plane from the Mex.kid) Most EVERY batt. here must be at least 2 years old, and so I guess that it must be my primary concern.
I am planning to extend the blades on the HUGHES from 325 s to 335 s Carbon, so a new powerful battery is a must.
now see the two pics of the charging/discharging/balancing process I am doing.
TODAY FEDEX DELIVERS my new mSR
so at least although I am stuck in the house ( and missed the TOY FOR TOTS show at the RC field) I can still FLY something
I am posting a film of the flying of the mSR tonight

THANKYOU AGAIN, RICK

.......brace yourselves for a SUPER REPORT

at 9am FEDEX dropped the box on the doorstep. In about 30minutes I had the mSR helicopter flying in the front room.
all it took was to charge the batteries, start a new helicopter in the DX-7 , bind and FLY
the FLIGHT is just as perfect as you would get with any of the helis we all use to fly (after having worked for hours to obtain
a perfect balance, trim, etc etc.) This helicopter actually scared me and worried me because all you see on the Net in YOUTUBE is this heli going around at a million miles an hour and crashing everywhere...and that made me hesitate whether to get one or not
I am here to tell y'all : NOT AT ALL.....this mSR just rose into the air as steady as a rock, in ABSOLUTELY PERFECT TRIM and responds
in the exact manner a regular one does. I do HOVER, FF, piros (right and left) and all the things I can do....even NOSE IN is perfect, but
not flying in the sense of the CX.....this one demands attention and consequently it is a GREAT practice (indoor) heli.
I want to RECOMMEND this one very VERY HIGHLY

and the last pic is the RAPTOR being charged because I plan to fly it; once I get over this nuisance FLU

enjoy the week-end RICK

P.S. with four batts, and an instant charger I can fly this all day non-stop (imagine the practice I get! ) I am now trying to figure out the best way to get one of these flight with the camcorder; being so little I wonder about the focus wandering about. I will try !!!!!!

.......brace yourselves for a SUPER REPORT

at 9am FEDEX dropped the box on the doorstep. In about 30minutes I had the mSR helicopter flying in the front room.

Damn you Vic . I guess after working for 50 flipping years, I should treat myself to ANOTHER toy. ONLY 9 more working days, and then I'm done with working. This is not regressing in the hobby, it's about having fun.
