Supertiga,

Your quote:
balance---where do the battery wind up located?
with mine all the way back as far as possible without it falling out i still need alot of back trim--and one click is still to much.if copter moves foward one click to the rear makes it move rearward.

This seems to be one of the problems that's causing you to over correct for everything else going on. Work on this one first. One step at a time.

It sounds like the swashplate is way out of adjustment. (oh, and don't use the 1/2 inch thing, keep it where it's at).

1) install the battery so that the heli is balanced, by holding the flybar 90 degrees offset to the heli body. Secure battery.
2) Make sure that the right stick elevator trim is centered, left of stick.
3) Make test flight and notice what it does.
4) (this is what I think can help) Veiwing from the rear of the heli, remove the linkage from both rear servos and turn 1 full turn counter clockwise. (keep track of turns)
5) On the front servo, remove linkage, and turn 1 full turn clockwise.

It may take an extra 1/2 turn on each.

Let me know how this turns out, PM me.

Hi everyone!
and good evening---i know its good as helicopter is not broken!

crash i hope you get to feeling beter soon--good weather is coming soon-i hope

myself just spent almost a year on kemo and that sucked big time.body feels good and brain is starting to function agin sorta.

went to old gym this afternoon and more room did help.
all the windows were open so drafts were prety strong but better than outside.
still having it move to left and some back---is this from ground/prop wash effect?
need to go read mor on radd site.

still no hover but all ways moving to same end of building--just not me good enough to hold it unless dead calm.?

did wind up wandering (sorta under control)into a corner about 10ft from both walls and suddenly it hovers with verry little movement!
i think it found a dead spot with no air movements.
found that i had control of it better than any time before
after about 30sec of this i set it down before i screwed up and put it into wall.

i think my problem is to much copter and not enough pilot for anything more than dead air.stiring the sticks is were i need most pratice as currently mainly using one input at a time but getting better---and always i try to make smallest movement possible--dont always suceed .just to get back to competently flying fix wing r/c after kemo was verry frustrating but found that control line combat/stunt were not a problem--go figure as it been 15 years since flew c/l and only about 2 since r/c.

i now think the copter is ok and hope to have another flier try it this weekend to make sure--he can do inverted on the deck so should be able to help with it/me

did get another set of symetrical blades so can switch back to them if needed.bought more spares as well

may go pratice flying it in my hand--crash--is that how you hurt your hand?-just kiddin man!

had warm nice suny days middle of week and now back to wet cold missery--i hate winter
no bikinis or other neato stuff!

David

Hi Guys, Choppersrules here,

I've been to busy to help all of ya, sorry for that. PM me if you have a major problem .

Anyway, heres' a link from HobbyZone.com that gives a lot of useful information on the Blade. I've posted it a zillion times and seems to help a lot of the guys. The thing I like most is the motor, pinion. battery combinations info.

Link: http://www.hobbyzone.com/articles_efl_blade_bulletin.html

Arrow:

When you get the lipo's it will make a big difference in performance. And yes you'll more than likely have to adjust the Proportial and Gyro trim. It's in the manual and it's pretty well spelled out. It may take several attempts to get it right. Never happens on the first try. Turn on TX, don't plug in battery to RX yet. Turn the gyro gain all the way off, counter clockwise, turn Proportional about half way. Plug in battery. Spool up and notice which direction the nose is turning, left or right. Unplug battery, turn Proportional screw the opposite direction of the nose turning. Nose right, Proportinal left, just a tiny bit at a time. Follow the above until, you can get the heli light on the skids without turning left or right. A tad left or right is okay, but not alot. Always unplug battery when making proportinal adjustments. Once your satisfied with the proportinal setting, now time for the gyro. This can be adjusted with the battery always plugged in. Turn full clockwise and back it off about 1/4 turn. Test flight. Tail wagging, turn a tad to the left, counter- clockwise

Hope this helps ya,

Dave / Choppersrule

TEST PICTURE:
Wanted to see how this one came out, the last I posted was huge.

In process of a rebuild. Will make alot of pictures and step by step info if anyone is interested. May take a few days.

What do you think? I checked the picture after posting, better size. Changed resolution on my digital camera to a lower one.

Ya crash........I hold mine the same way..........and can get a much better view when tracking the blades. I just flew another battery's worth..and have pitch adjusted where I want it. Am getting light on the skids at 60% throttle and into a waist high hover at 75%. I am feeling pretty good about how its tracking (just put on a new set of blades) they were perfectly balanced right out of the package.
My earlier question was more aimed at did you increease.......or decrease Proportional? And same with gain......more (aka clockwise) or less? I just wanted to get a feel for what the Lipo is gonna change...so I can be prepared for the adjustments..and not start in tweaking the wrong way. Thanks in advance, gotta love this forum because so many have "been there, done that"

Supertiga.......... I found a 5 part video session of a guy showing how he sets his blade up from ground zero. Is about 1 1/2 hrs worth of video..and he talks about the importance of critical steps. Heres the link:
http://runryder.com/helicopter/t244675p1/

If you have a few mins each nite........ well worth watching, the video isn't really clear.....but still informative. If you just want to see battery placement.......vid 4 about 9 1/2 mins in!

Hi Dave
you must have posted while i was typing---my typing is only slightly better than my heli flying!

did originaly start by balancing per normal---fly bar 90% ect.
moved it rearward to eliminate(try to)rearward trim position

i do want to check and set swash plate hight and was considering adjusting as you say--makes sense although im nowhere near running out of trim.what is the stock hight or what do you set it at?i can machine a positive stop type set up tol if i know what setting should be.
not 1/2in aparently

i realy think it is to much copter for a fixed wing beginner type like me---the movements of copters are very ailein to me.

when i moved the linkage in on servo arms it should have lowered swash plate and have been wondering if that was some of the problems although nothing else seemed to change---things just slowed down from my end(input) but not as much as expected.
i did reduce pitch/raise rotor speed like crash suggested and this seemed to help a little

i have been wondering if the switch to flat bottom blades has caused things to react faster to input(in normal flight)as they should be able to generate more lift at lower angle of attack than the symetrical.have even considered reducing blade area/span to see what happens.

am verry pleased with tail movement and trim only chances 2clicks or so as battery voltage drops

my 4 biggest problems so far i think has been
trying to trim for low hover(6-12in)
possibly using flat bottom blades as crash said
to many varrying shape object in prop wash in close vicinity to copter causing constant changes in copter movement
i have no idea what im doing!

Dave---just got your pm--will check out and go from there--will let you know what i find and what happens next flight---at the GYM!

also saw your post on break in---a trick we used on 1/2th slot cars(many many moons ago)was to fill a jar with alcohol and cap it with wires running out from under lid and hook to low power to keep revs down--this also helped keep carbon/oil ect from building up on armature/brushes and would polish the armature real nice.after a few race weekends or when motor slowed down would do this agin---amazing how mugh black stuff would come out of motor.dont know a thing about modern motors but sure worked good on old ones

got some reading to do and then out to shop to work on the blade!(should be getting ready for next race but having to much fun)

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David

sweet Dave, You use zip ties for your 4 in 1 and Servos......good idea. I am leery of dubble sided tape. (That stuff doesn't deserve proper speeling...........) Makes me nervous but is all I am using right now.......... Have to dig thru my work boxes and see what I have.
Just bought the neighbors CX2 with police body.....If you look in one of my earlier posts in this thread......you will see it........I took a few pics of it 2 weeks ago when we went to the local schollyard, and flew. That also comes with a 11.1V lipo......so am a step up already. Got the whole smear........ 150 bucks.......has the aluminum rotor upgrade. Won't know what all else he put in it......but will get it fixed up.......and post pics of it after I am done!

Double sided tape advise.
Clean with rubbing alcohol or better yet powershot bearing cleaner then use Trinity servo tape.
Holds much better than the precut pieces included with the blade.
Cheaper as well.

ArrowNaughtic,

Zip ties work well, however I do use the double sided sticky tape with foam. I just don't take off the plastic to expose the sticky stuff. It gives some cushioning and less vibration to the servos that way. The zips are fast and easy for later repairs too. God forbid if we crash. I zip them down as tight as I can get them. Never had a problem with them. Got them at the Dollar-Store, a buck for about a hundred of them.
