I don’t have a price on the upgrade yet, but our intention is to keep the price to a minimum and pick up the shipping cost both ways. We are not going to come out with multiple versions of one motor like I have seen recently. Our intention was to get it right the first time.

We were having a difficult time coming up with an electronic advance that wouldn’t unreasonably jack the price of the motor up, so we opted 1 ½ ago to go with the mechanical advance to keep the costs down. Recently, Scott from Brillelli (Thanks Scott) was kind enough to point me in the direction of RCExcell. I must say, as far as Chinese companies go, these guys have been very professional and responsive in helping us with the set up at a reasonable price.

For the conversion, the bearing on the timing ring needs pulled and is replaced with a stationary ring. Here is a picture of our prototype, it’s not pretty but you will get the idea:

The replacement parts will be anodized red. To be fair to our customers who have the 45 or 30cc motors, we will pick up the shipping and labor of the conversion and charge a minimum to cover part of the expense on the new ignition.

Probably... but no big deal. The timing ring on the crankcase is replaced with a stationary ring which supports the sensor. While it "can" be rotated and locked on a fixed position, the magnetic ring on the prop hub can also rotate and lock down as well. So, you can pre-set your sensor ring to a good spot and lock it in place and do your pre-timing with the magnetic hub... OR Vice Versa!
It won't matter one way or the other, as long as your maximum timing point is set correct! To be safe, I would recommend a maximum of +28 degrees.

I came up with the bearing on the timing ring about 18 years ago...Just curious, did you see one of mine and copy it ?
As far as I know, it was never copied, always wondered why ...

I found the red standoffs I was looking for, I think. I believe I saw some others somewhere else as well. These came from DR Hobbies.

My next question is ... Can the carburetor be rotated to a position that would allow direct throttle connection without having to use a bellcrank setup?

You can also get it from Forgues Research cut to length. I am using those and am very happy with them.

Hooks and I ran the XOAR props and they were allright, but as mentioned above, for some reason the engine likes the Zinger and the most thrust comes from the PRO 22X8.

The ignitions should be on the way to the US with the next batch of engines in about a week. I just need to run each engine and set the needles, then package them.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying their Venoms

I gotta disagree somewhat, they do have more rpms but that doesnt always equate more thrust. I suspect the Xoar (or equivalant) will turn a few less rpms but have a higher thrust.

They are turning less rpms because they engage the air better ( more prop area etc) which explains the lower R's.

If anyone wants cheap props I been buying some from peak models. A 20-22inch prop is about 8 bucks. Similiar to a prozinger actually The profile not the price.

Yes, those look like a good option as well, and about the same cost.

Tim,

with the new advance ignition timing, what is the price of the engine now? and also as per Mitsu1, will the unit come with a rotated carb to avoid the bell crank setup?

Ok, the price is right .. but what kind of performance have you gotten from this nameless prop?

We are currently working on a full line of motor and giant scale accessories. We will have Standoffs in a few weeks with the next motor shipment from Novabill. We will have the standoffs in anodized Red. Here is a pic in yellow but I dont like the yellow much, so we will do red, chrome and black for now.

We will also offer a profile mount for the 30cc.
