I'm a ex pattern pilot from the old two meter .61/120 days who's wanting to try out some electric pattern. After spending a lot of time online and talking to a few friends it sounds like Fliton's Quiet Storm is it for me! I just now need to figure out what gear to put in it. Fliton's site seams a bit out of date with whats new in the market now in respect to the Quiets Storms information, so I was hoping you guys could help me out. I have a few friends that talk about HiMax geared motors, but I hear a lot of good thigns about direct Hackers. So...

What would be a good motor, battery and speed controller package for a Quiet Storm?

The A20-20L seems better suited for planes in the 16 - 18 oz range. I had a Ripmax Alliance (around 18oz 40" span) it was a bit underpowered with that set up. Switche to a 9*6 prop for a little more speed but still wallowed through manuevers. Maybe a Hacker A30 and matching ESC?

I use an E-Flight 480 with great success. It is set up more like a pattern plane with an 11-7 E prop, and even in a modest wind can do the full Masters pattern with ease.

see my build here www.piwi.dk "quiet storm"

Keep the weight down as it is easy to break the model in flight due to too high stress. 2500 cells are IMHO too heavy and so is a motor of 3,5 to 4 oz. See the video

Flys like a dream, but only in nice weather

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. There are numerous motors that will work, but I think the best is the Hacker A30-28S. Tons of messages/threads on this on EZone and it seems the latest thinking is the A30-28S with the TP 2100 3S pack is the best setup. I think the A20 will be underpowered.

a20 will be underpowered... go with the a30:28s, it fits right in with the higher kv Park 480. beautiful plane... classic but still one of my favorite.
