I think they should do the 'Fokker factory' generic scheme---streaky olive over natural linen (or turquoise) uppers with natural linen (or turquoise) bottoms. Then give the buyer a set of vinyl crosses (both the early and the late versions??? )

This factory scheme would allow the buyer to do almost any of the 320!!!! different triplanes!

(only a few are 'over turquoise')

This yellow and black color scheme was seen in the movie The Great Waldo Pepper. I heard that it was fictional....just for the movie. Is it a historically accurate scheme?

To answer your question, it is a scheme that never appeared on any actual WWI Fokker Dr.1, AFAIK. However, it's historically accurate if you're claiming it is a representation of the aircraft used in the Waldo Pepper movie.

An aircraft is an aircraft, even if it's just a flying movie replica aircraft. A model of such an aircraft can be called a scale representation of it, I suppose. I've seen particular color schemes of several movie aircraft replicated on models before.

The name of the pilot in the movie The Great Waldo Pepper was Ernst Kessler.
In real life his name was Ernst Udet Germany's # 2 ace. The black and yellow
fokker was not anything he flew, but some of the markings were his.
The LOLA on the side ( really just LO! ) and the Du doch nicht !! on the tail.
Just a little info. for anyone that want to know.
Here is a link to the D-VII he flew.

Nice size for a triplane. I'm interested too. Will have to be either recovered or painted though. No way I'm taking it to Old Rhinebeck with those colors!

Just goes to show, you can't ever please everyone. I like the Waldo Pepper scheme myself. It sure beats the old tired Red Baron scheme, at least. Surely everyone who goes to Rhinebeck has seen The Great Waldo Pepper movie? It can certainly be argued that it's a scale model of a real plane--a movie stunt plane.
