April, and no DR1 yet. I see they're out of P-51s. They need to build more because they sell. Everybody and the neighbor's dog wants one.

And there it is. OK, so I was wrong. But I'll honestly say, I'm definitely glad I wasn't right! Owing an apology is much better than seeing something that was once promised, never materialize.

I didnt see this thread, and started another one somewhere else. Anyhow, I am puting one of these together right now. Need to only install engine,(Saito91), and radio system. As with some other Nitro ARFs the instruction manual is junk. The aileron pushrod threads are to small for the supplied clevises. Mine was missing the bolts for the mid wing hold down. I would have perferd It to be designed to use a seporate servo for each half of the elevator. All easily fixable complaints. For the money a good deal. I like the color scheem (black and yellow checkerboard) much better than the red my Great Planes DR-1 came in. I am hopeing for better ground handeling than my GP version, as it has wider gear. Wing skids are a must for landings. Anyone else working on one yet?............................antiquefer.

60.2 inches. it calls for a 91 2 stroke. it's a really good looking bird. it arrived wrinkle-free. never plugged the iron up. and it feels really light.

The Triplanes look nice, but you've got to realize one thing:

1903 the birth of flight with the Wright Brothers. 14 years into aviation you got the Fokker Triplane. It's hardly the same as 1942 with P 51D's and by 1956 you've got the F-4 Phantom.

That said, my experience with a Triplane is limited to the little Great Planes electric version. IF I wasn't concerned about it falling off a string, I'd give it to a kid in the neighborhood to hang from his ceiling. It is THAT bad! Last time it flew was at a local fun fly. I had a WWII vet (who was a Corsair pilot) tell me in all his years (probably going on 80 years of modeling!) he'd never seen a Fokker Triplane fly. I told him to hold on to his britches 'cause his luck was fixing to change. Flew the little triplane and then jokingly told him "I didn't say it was going to fly GOOD!" and we both chuckled.

It takes some skill to fly a triplane properly.

If you are not proficiant with rudder, leave it home, till you are. Takeoff is fairly easy, point it into the wind and firewall it. Should be off in about 6 feet. The landing is probably the hardest part. Flying from grass is the best. Mine doesnt seem to tip stall at slow speed so I can land with very little rollout. The longer it rolls the more likely it will ground loop, drag a wing tip, and noseover. INSTALL WING SKIDS!

I prefer to wait for dead air too, However Sometimes I cant wait caus I enjoy flying it so much. I find it to be an enjoyable challange. It will turn incredably tight rudder turns. A great change of pace from my airobatic planes, which I cant fly worth a darn anyhow.

Just finished the Nitro Planes DR1. Actualy a prety fast assembly. Minimal hardware replacement. With 2000 Mah batt next to firewall ballanced perfectly. Power is Saito 91 GN. Tank looks small but will see. Needed to shim lft side of horrizontal stab up 1/16 th to align with wings. Tomorrow is saposed to be nice. Cant wait!
