Hi Fellahs,

Looks like this thread is seeing light activity. Too bad.

Also, I may be joining this party a little late as I just got my 1/4 scale RV-4 a few weeks ago. Then I noticed Tower has now discontinued it. Oh well, guess this particular RV-4 is getting fairly old at 6-7 years.

I'm planning on using an O.S. .95 4-stroker in mine. I figured it was originaly designed around an O.S. .91 4-stroker, so the .95 should be a good choice.

Had mine for four years still fly it every week looks great havent had to touch the covering, did have to repair one wheel pant use a 91 four stroke, also had to pitch the oringinal spinner, it was so far out of balance, dont forget to use longer servo arms on the ailerons to get proper throw.

My factory covering was in pretty saggy shape so out came the iron and the heat gun. I spent quite a bit of time on it. My factory covering was probably done late in the day by an eight year old Chinese "Monocote" trainee.

Thanks, I picked up a set of longer Dubro servo arms.

I also noticed the small horns for the ailerons. I couldn't get the holes in the horns to line up with the hinge centerline and still be able to attach them to the ailerons. It was funny seeing a drawing in the manual showing the holes in the horns lining up with the hinge centerline, but the supplied horns weren't even close.

Thanks for the encouragement !

I spent the day designing and making up a magnetic canopy hatch using some rare earth magnets. That'll be two less fasteners to lose at the field. I still can't believe how strong those little magnets are.

I'm having a hard time getting my fat little hands under the servo rods to be able to install/remove the wing bolts. My fix is to move the rudder servo location rearward about 4 inches. I'm also going to be placing the elevator servo directly in the center (left/right) in the fuse.

So far she's going together fairly easy. I'm in no hurry to get her done as it's now dreary time here in Michigan.

Yeah........I hear Ya. That's not the first time I've bought an RC plane and then found out I was probably the last guy to buy it.

Why the hell did they discontinue this plane? It's one of the best they EVER made. I was about to buy another one, jeesh, nothing is sacred.

I saw that. I could get away with just getting a new fuselage and tail feathers but they are out of the fuselage. That isn't a good sign.

I was late to the party and just recently purchased mine. I just finished it up and I’m waiting for springtime for the maiden. Geesh........I haven't even flown it yet and there is already a parts shortage.

It’s bad enough not to be able to get replacement parts, but in the event of a crash, you also can’t get any drawings for any of the wood parts.

That was one reality of owning any ARF until now...................but, good news: Just got my April ‘03 issue of Fly RC magazine and read the article on the Pilot RC 107” Decathlon sold by Chief Aircraft. They will be supplying free replacement laser-cut wood parts in the event of a crash. That’s unheard of in the ARF world.

There has been many times where I wish I could get a drawing of a particular wood part or some replacement wood parts. It sure would save on some grief.

My last repair consisted of making up a new leading edge on a wing panel. I also had to draw up and fabricate a few wing ribs from scratch without even knowing what the dimensions were.........that certainly was no fun job.

I have one that has been flying since July 2007. I was getting time to retire that one but I guess GP had other ideas.
I hope to goodness they do get more fuselages in. I have a DLE20 I want to put in a new one.
Until then I'll just keep flying the current one.

Tom,

You should have an aluminum, black colored wing joining tube and a set of wood alignment pins. These both come with the kit. A picture and instructions for installing these pins are on page 10 of the assembly manual. If you don't have a manual, here's a link for it http://manuals.hobbico.com/gpm/gpma1357-manual.pdf

Hi Tom.

My engine ? I won a new O.S. 95 4-stroke engine last summer. The RV-4 seemed like the perfect candidate for the 95. I have always had good luck with O.S.

I have a magnum .91 4 stroke in mine. 3 years ago had a slight mishap (pilot error ) Anyway I had a friend that was willing to do the repairs. 3 and some years later I got the chance to fly it yesterday. Long story, I took some time off got married changed jobs my buddy had a massive heart attack, but now is well my friend recovered and I'm back flying and have my RV 4. Just love this plane. Very disappointing that they discontinued the plane.
