It is a sweet aircraft, even if mine is a bit on the over-powered side. It really files smooth & graceful and "if" it dead-sticks the RV-4 just floats in. The flaps work well. All in all GP really went the extra mile making this a well built aircraft. I built a 40 size RV-4 when they first came out and it was a supreme flying machine! The quarter scale ARF is just as good if not a bit better.

Hi guys, just got off the phone with a RV-4 owner, he is down here in Louisiana, about an hour and a half
drive from home. Was more than glad to let me come and take pics of his plane, even offered me a ride if I would like,
heck yea I must be dreaming some one pinch me quick ! ! ! This the one in a post #12 on page one of this subject,
the white with yellow & black trim "N242ST". Also flys into my local small airport every couple of weeks.

Greetings,

This RV4 sounds like a really nice airplane. I was interested in the groups thoughts on using a 2 cycle OS 75AX for power in this plane. I searched the forums and did not see any mention of it. Thoughts?

Not enough power. I would say a minimum OS 91 FX. I am running a Zenoah G-20 gasser and one guy has even put a DA-50 in his! It is a great plane.

We have 2 of them in our club one has the OS 91 4 stroke in it, the other has a Super Tiger 75 and they both fly very scale. The actual speed of a fly size RV-4 is 200 -225 MPH so scale speed would be between 50 to 60 for it's 1/4 scale size. I hate saying it but the DA-50 is just too much engine for the design of this plane, one of about 1/3rd scale would be more suited for that kind of power
and engine weight. The G-20 might be alright but I would just hate to butcher the cowl up to make it fit! ! ! Mine will have the OS 91 4 stroker in it also with the Slimline muffler for 4-strokes if it will fit.

hello everyone. well i had a bad day. my rv4 had a low dead stick today due to a stock os 91 muffler that came lose and came off . i ripped the landing gear off and stripped one flap servo. i already fixed most of it. i had to order a new pair off wheel pants. i also ordered the slimline side mounted four stroke pitts mufffler. has any body used that one yet. that stock muffler is junk. it has vibrated lose many times but never came off. otheres at my club have complained of the same problems. i hope i made the right choice going with the slimline. i know they make great mufflers. please anybody out there who has one let me know how you like it

Sorry to hear yu are having trouble with your muffler. Noone in our club has ever had any trouble with stock mufflers coming off, atleast with O.S. stock mufflers. Some of the Saito mfller tend to breack oat theweld. We all use Locktite on the mounting screws.
Anyway all Slimline mufflers are good quality equipment. You will end up having to cut the cowl up to get it in there.
Sorry if seasm to be looing cotrollhere, I just took an ambein and the letters aeb movving.

RV-4 Owners.
Would someone who owns a GP RV-4 ARF be kind enough to e-mail me the dimensions of the horizontal stabilizer, the elevator halves, the vertical stabilizer and the rudder? (All tail feathers)

Horizontal stab is about 28 inches long, elevator halves are about 13 inches long a piece, vertical stab is about 10 inches long, and the rudder about 14.

Few questions here. How much down elevator am I going to want to mix in with full down flaps. I cant figure it out on my radio to be able to run half down and full down on a three position switch, so its always going to be full down. That wont be a problem will it?

And my other question is, I am wondering if this plane is kind of a bore to fly. I know that its not a speed demon or a aerobatic plane. So I am just wondering if it gets boring to fly in a hurry. I have a Magnum 91 four stroke on it with a 14x8 apc prop.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The RV-4 does mild aerobatics. Slow rolls, large loops, good spins and not bad knife edge. It's not an Edge or an Extra so if you don't expect that kind of performance, you won't be disapointed. It's a very relaxing Sunday flyer that I don't want to take every time I go to the field but it is still a very cool plane. I have finally mastered landing on the mains without bouncing so touch and goes are fun.

As far as the flaps go, I usually land at half flaps with a very small amount of down elevator mixed in.

Hello,

Just got my RV4 and looking into things it looks like my Saito 91 will fit but the muffler will be a problem. Anyone who's done a clean install of a Saito 91 on this plane, some pics or description of how you routed the exhaust would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Chris,
Put a APC 14-6 or 14-7 on it and the performance will go way up. A 14-8 is just simply way to big.
