^ You can place the lead weights inside the wing where the hatches for the servos are.

Hi Guys,
The build continues....

Has anyone balanced the RV-4 laterally?

If so, were you able to do by moving the RX battery?

If not, how did you add weight to the wingtip?

I really don't want to add stick on lead weights or drill holes in the wingtip and try to hide a weight inside.

As ususal, any and all tips welcomed!

Thanks!
Ken

Mine flies well enough without it. I haven't heard of anyone else doing this but some may have. Seems unnecessary to me.

Mine flew right off the building table with two clicks of down, and no other trim or ballancing required.

Thanks guys - good to know that no one needed to do this..

Just following the manual and it says to balance it laterally - for best performance and minimum of trim adjustments I suppose.

From the sounds of it I'll be OK either way.

Ken

Teamscalepilot,
Did you recover it with Ultracote. What ever you did with it, it will look awesome. That is the only thing I do not like about mine, is the bland covering job. There are so many RV-4's outthere that they could have copied a better example.

Well I got all excited when UPS showed up with my RV 4. Opened her up and what a dissappointment. They sent me one that had been returned. All the bags opened up, parts not taped down, busted canopy and it even looked like someone tried to iron down the covering. Oh well, sent her back and hope to have a new one by the end of the week. I'm looking forward to getting this ARF together and out flying

Man, sorry to hear about that. They will get you one back pretty fast. I had to get a new set of wings for mine. When I got them several of the rib were broken out through the center of the wing. I went ahead and let them charge/reimburse so I would get them faster. They next day aired them to me at no extra charge.

You are going to love this plane and I am so impressed with it. GP outdid themselves with the RV-4. It went together so fast that I thought I did something wrong. It will be worth the wait for you. Everybody in my club loves this plane.

That's good to hear. The girl that I've been working with was off yesterday and in order for me to have it by Friday they needed to ship it yesterday. They said that when she came back in today they would tell her to ship it second day. It's hard to beat Tower Hobbies. I'm really looking forward to the RV 4.

The kit showed up today. Everything looks great. The covering doesn't even need to be touched up. The only problem was the canopy was broken. I would be surprised if it wasn't as thin as it is. Tower said they would ship one right out. I'm really looking forward to getting this thing together. Maybe I'll get started on it tonight

Sounds really nice guys! What's the
possibility of an OS.61FX being sufficient
for this model. I'm really stuck trying to
purchase around this motor. So far
the best I've come up with is the SebArt S50E Katana
with the glow conversion. Yeah, I'm REALLY taking
my time on this one...involuntarily!

I've got everything I need including
4 brand new Spektrum DS-821's
and Hitec Electron-6 receiver with
a 2400Mah pack.

Man that is a hard decision. I love the RV-4 but The SebArt Katana is an awesome plane too.
The .61 FX will be enough to fly the RV-4 at scale speed much like the O.S. 91 Surpass.

I love scale planes with flaps like my
recently passed Lancair .60.
The SebArt really isn't the style
of flying that I'm into (close-in, 3d style)
and it's quite pricey...$250.00 + $20.00
for the glow conversion set.

If the .60 can fly it scale then I'm happy
but, I'd really like to see one fly with
that setup first.

Thanks for the input!

Most are running 90 4 strokes. Some are running 90 2 strokes because they can't take scale speed.
Some are cramming 120 4 strokes and gassers as well.
It is rated to a .61 on the low end. Mine weights 9 lbs. I used to run a .65 LA on my Hobbistar 60 that weighted 8 lbs and it flew fast as hell.
I think you would be saticfied with the .61 but I understand about wanting to see one flying with it.
