Dick,
It will still cool better yet even, if you block of the side that has no cylinder.

You're correct, but why fix something if it isn't broken?

Dick,
Because I like things the right way. I work in the engineering field, and that is style of thinking. Why do manufacturers cut two big holes in it. Do they not know better.? I am willing to bet, that you can cut down the engine temp by 50-75+ degree's by blocking off the other side.

No overheating problems with OS .91 4C at any air speed.

I cut a 2" by 4" hole out at the rear of the cowl for air exit.

I put in flight #16 yesterday.

Dick, you you have a pic that you can share?

Why do they cut 2 big holes in it? Because the full size plane had them and they want the model to look scale.

If I cut the engine temp down by 50 to 75 degrees, it just may run too cool.

But if someone is experiencing an overheating problem, blocking off one hole is the way to go

Dick,
If you have ever looked at a full scale RV-4 like I have, you would realize the openings are very small in porportion to the frontal area of the cowl. I know, my friend has one.

I'm at the point of installing the stab onto the fuse. It calls for thin CA. Did anyone chance thin CA or did you go with epoxy? Thin CA sounds a little scary, but if everyone is using it then I'll do so also.

I used 30 minute Z-poxy. I would never trust thin CA.

I also used epoxy for the same reason. Does not make sence to use CA on a plane this size.

Thanks MOTORMAN and gunfighter. That's what I thought. Epoxy it is!

Just load it up and work it back and forth. And keep lots of paper towels soaked in alcohol handy to wipe off the excess epoxy.

BTW - the landing gear is strong. Our field is expecially rough this week with deer tracks, armadillo holes etc. all over. Four planes ripped their gear off yesterday alone but the RV-4 held up just fine even after a few hard bounces in the holes.

Good to know. I was thinking about having a set of carbon fiber gear made up but I guess I won't now.

I would like to find a carbon wing tube though. It would save about 3-4 oz's.

Good luck on finding a tube. I searched for over an hour and couldn't come up with one that would work. The dimensions are:
22mm diameter
1.6mm wall thickness
21 3/4" long

Birman,
How did you measure yours, mic or caliper? What about Gator RC, they have a Pattern plane Carbon tube that is 7/8 x 30 lg. 7/8 is .875. 22 mm is .866. It would all depend on the tolerances in manufacturing.

I will keep looking though.
