Okay, If you're really desperate there is a product on the market that draws break fluid out of brake shoes. It comes in a spray can. DO NOT SPRAY IT ONTO YOUR COWL!!! You can however spray a small amount into the lid and apply it to the wood with a Q-Tip. This may draw the fuel out of the wood and allow you to re-epoxy it. It contains CARBON TETRACHLORIDE so be careful with it should you decide to try it. Also clamp the section of wood between two pieces of hard wood to keep it from seperating. Allow it to dry for at least two days. If you do, and have success, I would highly recommend that you paint the inside of the cowl and the cowl ring with Minwax clear polyeurethane after re-epoxying the affected ring area. Two to three coats applied with a brush. Let each coat dry before applying the next. I can't guarentee that this will work for you but it is what I would try if I were in your situation.
