Do not expect a performance increase from electronic ignition, it's not gonna happen. But you will have better mid range response, easier starting and a better idle.

Also you may have that G62 over-propped. It likes to rev, a 22-10 is a better choice.

Tom imo ( and a little exp ) the 22/10, 23/8 and the 24/6 all have about the same load on the engine and will have very similar rpms.

I'm running a Vess 23A right now. Also have 22B in hand. Started out with Zinger 22-8, 23-8, 22-10. They all sucked. The Vess made a HUGE improvement. Unfortunately, no tach so I can't quantify.

Take all the zinger props and use em for stirring the paint IME zingers are not good props at all.

Dont judge whether a 22/10 or 23/8 is good for your engine based on a zinger or pro zinger or anything with the name zinger on it.

If I read my email correctly today...I have one of these planes coming. Yea!.

I can't wait to get started on it.

I'm using DA50 with a cannister (not sure which one that I ordered from Wild Hare with the plane)
Rudder HS5955TG
Elevators HS5955TG
Ailerons HS5945
Throttle Futaba S9001 (this is a great fast throttle servo)
Choke Futaba S3004
Prop = NX 22X8
Receiver = Futaba G3
RX battery = Hobbico 2000mA 6V NiMH
Iginition battery = Expert 1500mA 6v NiMH

I plan on using all the stock hardware (I ordered the kit from Wild Hare)
I have a 3.5" AirWild "Nova" spinner

Does the plane come with axles and wheels? (with the hardware kit?)

I'm hoping for 16lbs or less. Is that possible with the above set up?

Thanks
Barry

Barry,

Congratulations! That plane is gonna Rock. The plane comes with axles (bad) and the hardware kit has axles (good). Use the axles (Dubro) in the hardware kit. I'll bet the finished product will be just a Hare over 16lbs.

Yes, the hardware kit includes wheels and axles.

No, that's probably not realistic. I list the weight as 16.5 to 17 lbs. That is likely to be accurate.

Per Tom's comments above, and inputs from other G62 owners, it would appear that performance is not the reason to go to electronic ignition.

We used a Zinger 24 X 6 prop on the "Charity Flyer" BTE Super Flying King and the G62 churned out about 6700 RPM. This was the best Zinger prop for this large, heavy slow flyer. Probably not the best prop in the market place but it worked for us.

Barry -

I don't know the difference in weight between the cannister and pitts mufflers, but my V2 Edge came out at 15.6 # using three 1650 mah 4.8 packs. My guess is you will be right at 16# with the equipment you listed.

Barry, I think you looked at my build thread for this plane so you can compare the equipment you're using against mine. I also went with a CF wing tube and stab tube and mine came in at 16 pounds 10 ounces. You may be able to get this thing in at under 16 pounds but I think you'd be hard pressed to do it without some serious mods...and even then not much under. Good luck on it though!!

Lou55...

Yeah, I'm thinking 16.5lbs now. My Yak is about that, 16lbs 6.5ozs and the DA pulls it around nicely. But I always want lighter and more power. I'll probably go with a CF wing tube as well. Where did you get yours?

How do you like your Edge? Flying it quite a bit?

Looking forward to the build.

Thanks
Barry

Bought them from TBM. They list what plane which ones are for. Not sure if Tom carries them or not. You'll have to cut the stab tube but the wing tube is fine. I love the plane but haven't had the weather to fly it much. The plane is really rock steady on harriers and will REALLY fly slow. I have the 3MM 53cc with a Vess 22A in mine and it pulls it around like you wouldn't believe. Unlimited vertical and hover at 1/3 throttle. The thing will harrier on low rates so don't think you need to kick the factory settings up. Tom really means 12 degrees on those elevators. The control surfaces on it will really throw it around. I actually could have used 1" SWB servo arms on mine. I went with the 1.25" that TBM says are for it and they were way too much and made the plane extremely pitch sensitive until I moved the rods up to the 1" position. After that it flew like a dream. If you watch the video of the maiden you can tell it's pitch sensitive. At first we thought it was tail heavy but that was not the case. I have the CG set at the reccomended spot and it flies GREAT!!! http://media.putfile.com/Maiden-Flight-Wild-Hare-Edge-540T-V2 Once I got the servo arms adjusted the rocking in the harriers went completely away. The thing just flies like a dream. Tom should be very proud of this one. Here are the CF tubes you'll need:

TBM CF wing tube 1.25x36x.037 wall
TBM CF stab tube .5x20x.032 wall

Re: Rudder geomerty issue -

Picked up a Hitec 5955 and got it installed solo on the rudder. Wow! What a difference between this thing and the 5645's! Talk about fast. Should I be saving up some dough to put 5955's on all of the control surfaces? Is the speed a factor of the coreless design?

IMO you don't need them anywhere else. Others may differ.
