Is anybody else using the Mystery FM30A brushless speed controller? Any clue how to program it? The chimes sound nothing like what is discriped in the manuel and so far I have only been able to turn off/on the brake. Also the manuel say's that it has a rpm limiter off/20000/50000 but in my fussing with the thing it's developed a strange RPM hunting, like a really bad governer. The manuel says it has an active control mode, I may have turned it on but it only works sometime so I'm not sure if it's on or if the thing is about to fry. It's way over 20000 and no where near 50000. So it's not the RPM limiter. Just a sort of hunting while hovering. Makes it a real hand full to control, jumps up and down about five feet without me making any changes in pitch, good thing is that it doesn't do it all the time. Whatever it is I want to turn it off if I can.
I wrote RCsmart and they replied.

hello,

if you want to program the Mystery 30A ESC, it needs a program card.
you can buy it easily from local RC shop, and it costs cheap.
thanks for your help.:-)

RC Smart

What, what, what???!!!??? Mystery doesn't make a programming card as far as I know. Do they?
I've seen programming cards for other makes but as far as I know they're not cross compatable. Castle works with Castle and Jeti works with Jeti so on and so forth... Am I wrong? Are there some that are more generic? Basic protocal?
Yeah, yeah....that's what I get for buying a no-namer..... Really does seem to be good quality though. Hadn't had any problems untill know...
Thanks

Hi

Im in the same situation as you and i got the same message from rc smart.
I have brought a "generic" program card, but it does not work. It could just that the card is faulty tho, as it does not light up at all.

I can't speak for mystery rc products, but I DO know that the JETI cards work with a few different controllers out there (such as the Dynam controllers), so no, they aren't all proprietary, but trying to match a card with no previous knowledge of what it needs is pretty much a crap shoot.

Most of the generic chinese/japanese brand controllers are actually quite good, it's just a matter of sifting through the "jinglish" and coming out with something that you can actually program.

At anyrate, the generic prog cards are cheap ($10 or $14) if you can find them. I tried ordering a bunch to stock awhile ago and the supplier had none left, so hopefully you can find em' somewhere .

So far, I've found three different sets of instructions for the various incarnations of the "Mystery" brand 30amp ESC, each with a different scheme of tones. The tones described on the third set seems to match mine, although I was somehow able to get the motor to reverse direction when that wasn't one of the options listed. I think I've gotten desired settings and won't experiment any more. Good luck!

From discussion at http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11604, I get:

1) http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=18392&d=1161689224

2) http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=18648&d=1162216384

From a posting on a french forum, I get:

If your motor will not spin at all ... be careful!!!

I had this happen to me when building my T-Rex with another ESC I had in a different heli, along with a new TX/RX combo and it turned out being that I needed to reverse the throttle channel 3.

I was fortunate I found this out without causing damage as my throttle stick was all the way down, and my ESC was beeping differently than before and no throttle, so I moved the aileron stick and all of a sudden ... full throttle heli lifts from the kitchen counter and I was able to grab the skids before it hit the ceiling and unplugged the battery from the ESC. So, I took the motor out and re-connected everything to find that low stick was 100% throttle and high stick was 0%. I reversed channel 3 and wallah all is fixed.

You can plug the 3 motor to ESC wires in any way, all it does is reverse the direction that they pinion shaft rotates, so if it's wired backwards it will spin your main gear in the wrong direction. You swap any 2 wires to get it going in the right direction.

hi thanks for the help
the motor now spins but it isnt spinning according to the throttle on the transmitter.... it revs more as you drop down the throtle which i thought was strange, it then revs faster when you release all throttle before stoping completly a few seconds later. i am using a standard 2 channel reciever with a 7.4v lipo if it makes any difference and the motor isnt in ankthink at the moment so it has no load on it, this is really baffeling me any suggestions ?

Did you check your TX to see what direction it is set to for whichever channel you connected the ESC on the RX to?

Sounds like you have a similar issue to what I had, the channel on the TX needs to be reversed.

Greetings to all from Ohio USA.

Hi MiniCwik ,

I know the thread is a bit stale now, and hopefully you've solved you problem, but...

Is it possible that you have, or had, your transmitter set up in "inverted" mode? I believe that's the way things work in that mode.

Just a thought...

The answer to all of this I found was the Mystery ESC 30A and larger need a servo battery connected as well as rthe motor batter. I guess their thinking is, if you need a 30A or larger then the plan can carry two batteries. Anyway, once I hooked up the servo battery everything worked just fine.
