My name is Jason Niemier I have redrawn the the Ugly Stick plans from the web with many new ideas. If you want a CAD DXF copy go to the link below and dowload the DXF file at the bottom of the page. However you may simply down load the PDF file here for viewing with your Adobe Reader most of us have enjoy. But please let me know what you think of the plan back here!

I think they look very good! I don't see anything about CG though. I can't print it out at the moment. I need to go to Kinkos or such. Once I get the Cub and the Hog off my bench I may build some parts and see how this goes together! Good Job!

Start the CG at about 25% of the MAC (Main Aerodynamic Cord) which is 3.5” from the leading edge then adjust it forward or back to suit your flying style in 1/8" increments. It's all a matter of practical flight testing and personal choice really so don't be afraid to experiment with minor adjustments.

Jason,

Thank you for the Ugly Stick plans. I have built this plane from the original plans "RCM Das Ugly Stick". How has your newly designed wings held up. Are they as strong as the original? I like he idea of the wing attachment. Right now I am using rubber bands.

Thanks
Frank

I'd kind of like to see a modified version.

On the original, the bottom of the fuse is flat, and the elevator is on the bottom of the fuse. I've read where people who built it as a taildragger had ground handling issues.

I'd like to see the top of the fuse be flat, from the wing trailing edge back. The bottom of the fuse would angle up as a result. And the elevator be on top of the fuse. I think that'd make the ground handling of a taildragger better.

Just a thought.

But I do like the wing design a lot. Simple, easy to build, easy to attach...

Just keeping this fresh at the top of the list ... I, too, am interested in knowing what to tell Kinkos. If I take in the PDF how big should they enlarge??

Thanks Sticktickler!

Not sure what to tell you about the .PDF. I downloaded the .DXF from the site mentioned above and based on the CAD drawings, the wingspan is 65", the Wing Chord is 12.75", and the Fuse Length is 45". As a side note I downloaded the demo version of DeltaCad to view the .DXF.

Hey thanks alot, the longest balsa around here is 3 ft. do you just splice 2 at a 45 to get the length for the fuse??

Really??? Check out Lone Star Balsa you can get stock long enough for the Fuse. I am sure there are other good online sources of Balsa as well. If you're going to splice for the fuse I'd do more of a locking pattern so the pieces fit togehter like a puzzle piece and reinforce it with 1/32 balsa. There was a pic around here somewhere of a guy that did that on a Stik build ... I'll see if I can locate.

Edit - I wasn't able to locate the pic. This is what I meant.

Hi, just do a google for "tiled ugly stik plans" and you will get plenty of hits. There is a link to a rc groups thread which has them on. I built mine from the freely available plans from Guy Fuller. Also there is a long thread on this site which you will find if you google "Jensen ugly stick build". If the weather is good I am flying mine tomorrow. When I let the club hotshot fly mine his comment was "we really haven't moved on much since this was designed".
Good Luck with your search and if you go ahead keep us all informed.
All the best...Chris UK...

The PDF File attached by the OP is in Vector format. Any CAD program should be able to import this. It will need to be scaled but that is not a problem with vector files.

At one time I had drawings of just about anything you could want to build. Back about 4-5 yrs ago I had a battle with cancer and so far I am winning, but I got rid of all my hobby items and even gave away all my drawings. Its time to start again and the Ugly Stick is without a doubt the best plane to build and fly that ever took to the air. Around Christmas I bit the bullet and purchased a vinyl cutter/plotter so now I can do all my drawings again. The Uglystick is on its way to converting to DXF and then printing hopefully within the next month I will have one ready to fly. Thanks for the drawings.

What cutter/plotter did you get and are you happy with the plotter performance?
I would love to pick one up if it works with later Windows version.
Thanks.
