Status: offline 		That 40cc gasser is a little over the recommended engine range, plus gassers vibrate a lot harder than glow engines. Did you tell Pacific that you were installing that engine when you asked them about the firewall? I would definately reinforce it with some epoxy and cloth. If you do it before you put the dash panel in, it will be very easy to reach the back of the firewall.

You are absolutely right, this is not an inexpensive ARF ! How did they react to your complaint about the chipped and cracked cowl ?

Status: offline 		I've had my Monocoupe for about two months now and it draws good comments every time I bring it out to the field. Mine was in perfect shape out of the box, except for the four cowl mounts which were broken off from the box being dropped on that end. I have a MVVS 26 in it and it flies great ( a 35cc would have been perfect). I have only a few complaints though, it would be nice to have a side door like the H9 Piper so that you can use both hands to work on the interior, and I almost have to take a valium before each take-off as you have no idea which way it will swing on the T.O. roll. I will try to Dremel the wheel pant opening to see if that helps. When it swings and you correct with rudder it rolls the aircraft when it breaks ground. In the air and landing it is perfect although it is certainly no beginners airplane.

Do they all turn out nose heavy using the G-26 ?

Status: offline 		If you use the G26ei, you might get away with no lead, putting the elevator servos in the cockpit. With the G26 mag and the servos in the cockpit you will need lead in the tail, but not too much. It's a long tail.

Status: offline 		I used a G26 converted to ignition with a CH ignition system, servos in the tail, balanced on the aluminum spar. No lead added anywhere. Plane flew very well.

I bolted my engine in place and then installed the wings, tail group, etc and put it on the balancer to determine where to put the servos and battery packs. I use a 5-cell sub C Rx battery and a 4-cell sub C for ignition. I was able to avoid having to use any lead ballast using this method.

This is the proper way to balance any model.

Why guess, during assembly ?

I doubt it. It was in RC Report, and I don't think they post their stuff online. I know that they sell reprints of all their airplane reviews so if you want to read it yopu can give them a call and order it. I have a copy of that issue in my shop, and I can pull it out and let you know what issue it's in, if you want that info.

Status: offline 		There was also a review done by Don Bailey recently. Just can't remember the exact name of the publication but it came out in the October issue I believe. Sport Flyer?? I have the mag at home but I buy it so infrequently that the name eludes me at the moment. I'll edit this once I find out tonight. No the Petit review is not on line, as has been pointed out. Would be nice if some of the articles/reviews could be gotten as a pdf.

The magazine is RC Sport Flyer and it was the October 2008 that the Monocoupe review was in.

Status: offline 		There were also reveiws in Fly RC Magazine, April 2008, Model Airplane News, March 2008 & Model Avation in September? or October? 2008. In general I've only read good things about this plane with the exception of ground handling issues which seem to be the result of poor wheel alinment with the wheel pants. In my case loose wheel shaft collars. I built mine with a ZDZ 40-Zoar 20X10. This was my first gasser and only 3rd ARF. The plane flew very well and came in slow and easy with the flaps. Unfortunnately I was only able to get one flight before I got the wheel issues straightened and the season ended. I am eagerly waiting for spring to get some stick time with this plane and really get to know it.

Status: offline 		The Pacific Clipwing Monocoupe was designed for a 2 to 3 pound engine. The Saito 325 weighs 5 1/4 pounds. I think the answer is obvious.
