I have had a terrible time with the steering on my Matrix buggy as of late. The screws that hold the knuckles in cause the steering to bind if they are tightened to where they need to be. its as though the geometry is off or something and then the screws bite down on the knuckle carriers instead of the collared washers causeing the binding! VERY frustrating. I am losing those screws ( which translates to loose knuckles) almost every day at the track. MAKES No sense to me why all of a sudden. Nothing bent. No impacts. Driving me nuts.

I hear you about the losing screws and binding knuckles. I think we all have that problem with the Matrix buggy. I loctite and tightned the screws down then back them out just enough so that they don't bind. I occasionally loose a screw but not as frequently as before. I have heard of other Matrix owners using the red locktite instead of blue. I may just go that route. I wonder if you can mix a little blue and red locktite together and have a thread locker that is not so permanent or so difficult to remove the crews compared to red locktite alone?

Man its so good to hear that I am not crazy or doing something wrong. I wonder if there is a sneaky fix to the binding issue? Red loctite is the truth! If thats what it takes then thats waht I am gonna do. Has anyone else run into this or found any good fixes for ot. It seems to be a common problem and I hate losing those screws!

You're not crazy. Iuse to loose those screws all the time when I was running my Matrix RTR. I bought a stainless steel screw set for the Cen Matix fron a guy on ebay. Now I have so many extra screws, if I loose one it is no big deal. The guys at the track I go to ask me for screws when they lose theirs. Just a little added insurance to have the extra screws and not have to end a day of racing early because of lost screws especially the C Hub and Knuckle ones.

I think I got the binding issue with my steering assembly fixed. Somehow while running the TR, the srews tightned themselves. When I took the steering bellcrank apart the knuckles were hard to turn by hand. I lube up the brass washer caps on the C- hubs with a little silicone lube I have and I mixed some red and blue locktite to see how well it would work on the Knuckle screws. Hopefully this mixture of locktite won't make it too hard to remove the screws. I will let it dry and set overnight and see how well she runs and how free the turning is tomorrow morning. I will also check to see how difficult it is to remove the screws.

Tree, for sure let me know how that combination of loc tite works. I am absolutely looking for a fix to this steering binding issue. It is scary to have to physically leave screws loose to avoid the steering binding. I hear you on the extra screws. I need to pick some up!

Hey Derek, you sure did make the right choice. I haven't had any of the problems people are posting with my truck, and I love it. I take it racing a lot, and I'm going this Sunday again. Don't worry about small problems like this because most of them have either been solved by CEN themselves, or by people on the forums. This is a place to discuss what problems there are in the trucks and what can be done to fix them. Keep in mind that this is CEN's first truggy, and it's really an amazing truck off the bat. For most people, including me, the truggies are running great. There will be support for your truck all the time, so you shouldn't worry about it.
That being said, there are also a bunch of new parts from CEN for the truck that are updated like the servo savers and lower front arms, and it is likely that your truck will come with all the new parts.
Part of this hobby is learning, and you will always be faced with things to overcome and fix. For me, that's actually one of the things that attracts me to the hobby.
Good luck and don't worry, be happy!
I feel like a motivational speaker LOL.
Tom

If you're going to buy the RTR then I would upgrade the bell crank to the Cen aluminum one.

I would also upgrade the servos whenever you can. The stock servos are extremely slow. Good luck and have fun.

All the basics...
Fuel (I recommend 20%), glow igniter, batts for the receiver and transmitter. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR RIGHT OFF THE BAT AND GET A 6.0 volt hump receiver pack!!! You can get them for about $20.00 on ebay and they are worth every single penny!!! Down the line I recommend rechargeables for your transmitter as well. The hobby is way more fun without having to worry about getting new batteries all the time. Other than that you should be ready to go! You might want to get some after run oil and a little tool box for the basic tools you might need/use.

I've just had my TR for a day. I agree about changing the 6.0 Vdc battery pack and the servos. I bought the hump battery pack right off the bat but didn't pay attention to the switch connector. It's different than what I'm used to and doesn't fit the battery pack I bought. Finally, I located a new switch - i knew I had one around here. I'll put it in this morning.
.
When driving the TR yesterday, with the 4..8 Vdc Duracell pack. I had several scary moments when I thought the TR was going to take off. I didn't feel like I was in control. The same thing happened with my RC8 RTR so I'm beginning to beleive there's some type of radio interference here. I noticed that the servos were reacting really slow. I had to end the session, as the TR was not drivable. If I replace them, which type would you guys recommend? I was thinking about the Hitec 645MG (better for my budget) or the 965MG? Or have you guys a better recommendation?

PS. I got the NovaRossi .21 installed. The Carb, if placed at a right angle (proper position) regarding the engine, the slide hits the brakes. I had to angle the carb back slightly, which puts it at a mechanical disadvantage regarding the servo. Also, I had to grind the inside of the engine mounts down so that they would fit the engine flanges. Other than that, all went well. Does this sound okay?

Should I hold on to the stock engine as a back up or sell it?

My Associated started box hates this Truggy. The box isn't physically big enough to index the pins correctly. Plus, the new NovaRossi is just giving the box fits as the engine is tight. I should have listened to the guy at the Hobby Shop when he pointed out a bigger more expensive box.

My opinions to your answers...
Good work on the receiver pack. It is key! If you want to take your switch one step further get a switch that has a charging lead and then you dont need to disconect the battery every time you want to charge it. There is a seperate lead just for charging the batt. Good stuff. How are the batts in your tx? Once again... I recommend rechargeables for your tx. I have ORION 2300 nimh AA batts in my tx and they will last a day at the track easy! If your batts are good you m
