Last one for today, remember the CEN owb gave out on my pull start. Well I had an extra Revo pull start that matched up (bolt pattern and spindle size) but it was a little too tall so I had to machine a spacer to fit between the pull start and backing plate. Took some scrap aluminum bar stock, machined it to about 3/8 of an inch, bored a hole for the owb, drilled the 4 mounting holes and finally I machined the outside edges to match the profile of the pull start and clear the header. It took about 15 mins to do the machining, but another 20 mins to get the thickness just right, so there would be no play between the owb and starter spindle bushing.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the starter box. I'll definitely be getting one next week. What you did with the pull start is very creative, I like to see custom stuff done. Finally got my Arena today and I must say I am very impressed with the components used to build the Arena. The RTR is the best way to go and for the price you can't go wrong. It just looks trick, I can't stop looking at it. The air filter what can I say about it?....it's huge and wont allow any air to cool the engine where it's located, so I will order an aftermarket filter for it.
I have a question though, If I were to put the composite center braces in a orange or red dye would it take the color well or would stay black?

Back to 17mm Hubs/Hexes...

I used the Matrix Buggy rear axles for the rear of the truck. $7 each For these axles you will also need 5x5 grub screws. The truggy axles are much heavier / beefier than the buggy axles.

Buggy axle is on the left

Thunder Tiger 17mm Hubs/Hexes and 3 shims. Snugs it up nicely. Actually, any 17mm hub for a 8mm axle and 3mm pin will work (Mugen, TTR, HPI, Hot Bodies, CEN)

To do the whole job and use minimal shimming, you should also use Matrix Buggy front Axles for the front of the truck. However.... they only come as an entire CVD setup and are $27 each. So I just used a couple extra shims up front to get rid of the backlash.

Anyway... this is the way I would go if I was going to switch over to 17mm hexes on the Arena. You can just use 17mm hubs and a stack of shims but I dont like that.

Looks REALLY nice, can't wait to get mine.

Mystikal-No, you can't dye black plastics, you have to dye them a darker color than they already are.

Had some fairly good weather today so I broke in the Arena. Coming from a guy who had Revo's before all I can say is WOW.
Don't take me wrong I still like my Revo's but when it comes to racing the Arena takes the trophy.
I used Byrons 30% and the heat cycle method. Pull start is a pain....someone give me a starter box!
Overall I am happy with my Arena.....now time to drop all those upgrades in.

Upgrades? PSSHHH! Buy a couple FRE's for parts!! I'm sure Blade would like that.

does anyone make a backplate for a shaft start that would work on the stock arena engine?

Try PMing Shark to make you that spacer. Revo's have aftermarket shaft start options.
